PMDG 737 Discussion (Xbox Series S|X version)

Ah ok cool, did you go for the 700 or 800. I’m likely going to purchase the 737 on payday.

Lights are just in the PMDG equipment page in the FMC.

Is there much difference between 700-800 I want the whole fleet but my wallet will feel the pinch lol

-800. Far better value for money, especially when you consider how many airlines are offloading their -700s (Southwest aside, obviously). The second-hand market for -800s is far more buoyant and we’re seeing new operators all the time. And unlike the -800, the -700 is a very niche aircraft as a freighter (as far as I know, Alaska is the only carrier to operate it). There are, however, more BBJs than BBJ2s or BBJ3s in reality.

Depends how fussy you are about replicating actual flights. The -700 is of course a little niftier and doesn’t require as much care in order to avoid tailstrikes on rotation or touchdown. Oh, and of course it can operate in and out of more airports!

How does that work, then? LED lights are built into the airframe so a pilot shouldn’t be able to just toggle between the two variations in the FMC.

Mines doing the same thing, I redownloaded msfs like five times and it still shows that

PMDG put equipment/aircraft options in the FMC. It obviously isn’t intended to be realistic, that’s just the interface they chose for their addon options menu. You can change preferences like which callouts are audible, panels, and panel load states.

Unlike the default planes where you toggle by clicking and then selecting from the RS or Trigger buttons, it’s just a simple click of the A button. I haven’t tried all of the switches, but for the lights if you press A it will toggle it for you.

It gets tricky on the knobs for altitude since it gets sticky and can impact the throttles if you press too much, but it does work. As mentioned, mouse and keyboard along with the controller is ideal.

Not much. I have both of those. I only fly the 800. Not worth buying both. Difference - length weight and takeoff/landing speeds, and a few airline livery differences. The cockpits are largely the same.

I think so as I had no problem taxing soon after.

I chose the 700 for the sole reason that I prefer the shape of it!

I have the 700 as I was an early adopter. The 800 didn’t come out until much later last year. The 600 when it arrives has more ‘shape’ and is renowned for being a ‘rocket’, which is quite something given that the 700 and 800 are no slouches themselves. The 600 if pricing is the same should be ~$35 but has with no cargo variant. Cockpit experience will be much the same as the other 737’s though so a great entry price point for those willing to wait a few weeks/mo’s. The 900 was only released this year. I don’t own it either. Some own all 4 variants though. Each to his own.

I definitely noticed stuttering at Dallas Fort Worth yesterday. (KDFW). Fancy looking airport model though

Navigraph is amazing if you were lucky enough to be using it 1 year ago and unlock the 2204 airac.

PMDG navdata is using that airac and a year out of date. Therefore navigraph plans are in accurate to new users. This is a MASSIVE issue for a study level aircraft

It will certainly become an issue moving forward as the airac becomes further out of date. It hasn’t been thought through well at all. Like I said before EIDW 28R/10L opened late last year. So when XBox finally has either 28R/10L in EIDW as default or via MKStudios EIDW V2, you won’t have nav data for it in 737 on xbox which is crazy.

2203 is unlocked, Im a new subscriber, as mentioned already the differences are likely very minimal.

I hope they sort something out though it’s pretty poor for a study level aircraft and the cost of it.

confirmed here too. 2203 is unlocked for me and I was not a subscriber to navigraph at the time.

I’m sure it has been “thought through” but PMDG’s options are limited. They can’t include a newer Navigraph database without explicit permission from Navigraph.

Navigraph already allowed PMDG to include a free copy of their nav data in the initial release of the 737 last year, which is the version that is included in the new XBox 737. It is the same (now outdated) nav data that you will get if you purchase the 737 for the first time on PC. The difference of course, is that you can easily update the nav data on PC. The standard Navigraph updater software will not work on XBox.

It would be up to the largesse of Navigraph to allow PMDG to include the latest AIRAC in the XBox version for free. Navigraph is a for-profit business, and while they were willing to “give away” their product once (on initial launch of the 737), they probably are not willing to do that again. Even if they charged a reduced fee for a new AIRAC for the XB 737, PMDG wouid have to pass that cost along to customers by raising the price of the XB version of the aircraft.

The last sentence doesn’t quite make sense though as Navigraph will also lose potential subscribers from Xbox who want to use the latest nav data/charts along with a 737 with latest airac. So surely its in Navigraphs best interests to allow a free copy of their nav nav data for PMDG to use.
