PMDG 737 Discussion (Xbox Series S|X version)

Yeah the app is good, can’t see atis info on it though, have to go to simbrief for that.

I had the same thing with the ATR42 :joy:

All that info is on the charts too see below (sneakily iding under ‘airports’ tab)-

Hi All,

in the last few days I’ve been having CTDs with the PMDG 737, and the screens go black, generally near landing or after landing. There has been no rhyme nor reason as it happens on some airports and then the next day I fly the same route and nothing goes on, all good.

Anyone else experiencing this and what was your plan? Do I wait until tonight or what should I do?

It’s frustrating as I am close and then the screens go black and don’t come back.

Thanks!

I should have said that I am on Xbox Series X.

I’ve had one CTD while in the 737 and that was departing KATL and that’s resource heavy in any aircraft so I assume it was more the airport than the aircraft.

The black screens are something I’ve been experiencing only the last couple of days. before that the 737 would CTD at specific airports (without fail) but was fine elsewhere. The black screens tend to happen on the ground, and the resulting CTD can often take till I’m on finals to my next arrival point. When it first started happening the back screens would actually return to normal after a few minutes but now it’s a certain CTD… eventually.

Did a full flight last night out of Renton, trying everything I could to get the game to crash on X Series X, took everything I threw at it. I was, however, trying to use ATC and getting that to play nice with the FMC flight plan and following ATC-directed descent alongside VNAV wasn’t the best experience. They ended up never assigning me an approach so I just rolled with my SimBrief suggested runway. I think I would have been ready to go though, had they thrown a STAR at me, without falling behind the airplane. My second flight out with her.

edit: about 51 minutes in, troubleshooting a Cabin Pressure alert with real-world POH happened to work for me, that was pretty impressive (and harrowing for awhile!) valve wasn’t set to auto. Checklists, people! :joy:

Yes another gotcha with cold and dark startup right there. Pre engine startup, packs off, APU bleed on, then after eng startup packs to auto, apu bleed off and correct cruise alt dialed in to the pressure control system. Otherwise you will run into those types of warnings while airbourne. It can be a shock when all those alarms start going off amid what probably appeared to be a normal flight!

Yeah saw that but couldn’t see active runways in use or the altermeter (is that what it’s called) reading.

Surface pressure reading for the altimiter is in the metar -

Runways, are assigned on the simbrief flightplan for departure and destination, but destination could change enroute depending on weather changes. I mean you can assign star and arrival runway before you leave too, but it won’t reflect any changes that happen weather wise enroute. I do accasionally see a differnet arrival runway being assigned and I have to change the FMS flghtplan to laod the new arrival.

Initially with your flightplan Simbrief will assign runways based on metar, presumably at the time of generating it so your departure runway should be accurate if you don’t wait to long to depart. I’ve only ever seen it change once (usually when you get very light winds perpendicular to the runway).

I have a question regarding the earlier topic about outdated nav data.

Does a navigraph subscription let you access old charts just like simbrief lets you file flight plans with old AIRACs (if you used them previously)? I’m assuming the answer is no, but it’s worth asking since it would make navigraph a lot more appealing if I knew I could use the charts from AIRAC 2203.

I think the only charts available are current charts. There isn’t a chart archive as far as i know and from what I’ve read googling.

Ah brilliant. I forgot about the plan assigning the runways, and it makes sense they would be accurate at the time plan is generated.
Thanks for your informative posts, much appreciated.

FWIW, I am able to select AIRAC 2203 in SimBrief, and am only a recent SimBrief user (was not using it when 2203 was current). That said, I am a Navigraph subscriber so maybe that is the reason I can get the old 2203 in SimBrief? In any case, glad I can assess it when planning for the PMDG 737.

You’re wrong, when creating a route, find “airac cycle” tap on it and you will be able to change the cycle matching to the on in the B737.

Ummmmm…nope. 2204 is unavailable on my paid account. If it was that easy, we wouldn’t be here discussing it!

You’re wrong.

It’s available on mine.

It’s greyed out on mine. A lot are available, but not that one. I have a paid account, so I have no idea.

Do you definitely have your navigraph account linked to simbrief. Ie they used to be separate and now they are like almost like one system. I’d look around in navigraph settings and try to make sure your navigraph account id is linked to simbrief. What you see greyed out sounds more like the free simbrief to me. Definitely not what should be showing up. I can select any airac going back to 2203 from my simbrief account.

Just tried it going back to 2204 airac tonight, still had my flightplan from this morning from eidw 10L (which didnt exist a year ago) loaded and the amount of airac orange mismatch warnings I got in simbrief was quite interesting to see! Probably worst case scenario though having 2 runways and several sids/stars and waypoints that are new and completely missing from a year ago. It politely advised me to use 10R to depart on instead. (Which did exist a year ago).
Definitely worst case but an example non the less of airac mismatches with not being up to date.
