PMDG 737 Discussion (Xbox Series S|X version)

@TheFalconOne Can you provide any updates on the status of getting Navigraph nav data updates in PMDG planes on Xbox, for paying customers? Thank you.

I’m worn down and beaten down…thus the reason for me making the decision to switch to PC as of last week.

This along with avionics black screens in highly detailed areas…I’ve had enough.

I’m interested how you get on…

I’m still on Xbox and am reluctant to get a pc as I don’t want to be messing around with PC settings. But I am tempted by the graphical improvements and … VATSIM.

Keep us updated @DBCooper8675 .

Definitely!

I’ve had much better success with my XBox since SU15. XBox is my main source for the sim and while the graphics have deteriorated slightly, it’s smoother than ever for me and not running into anywhere near the amount of CTDs or black screens as I did before.

That being said, with a powerful PC, the sim looks amazing from any distance and runs fairly smooth.

So apparently PMDG finally has Navigraph AIRAC updates ā€œon the tableā€ for Xbox… but I have to say, I’m not sure what to make of the attitude.

As always with pmdg and Mathijs…

Somehow I don’t think the PMDG is really interested in finding and implementing a solution to this problem. If Asobos 737 Max comes with fs2024 then we will no longer have this problem. I will then use the Asobo 737 Max and delete the PMDG. Even if the Asobo 737 Max will not be quite as high simulated, which we can’t say yet. But I think that it will at least be on the level of the A310 and inibuilds A320. In any case, we can use the new navigation tool and always have up-to-date nav data. For me, that’s reason enough. I won’t buy the 777 either because it will have the same problem as the 737. I also wonder how big the chance will be that PMDG will support the new navigation tool on the Xbox? I will then cancel my Navigraph subscription because if Asobo integrates its own navigation tool with always up-to-date Nav data, I no longer need navigraph and then use the free one.

How we schedule things depends on many factors but customer demand is most certainly one of those. And, to be honest, demand for Xbox nav updates is extremely low.

If that’s what they think I suggest everyone on xbox raises a support ticket and show that customers care about this.

This is a formal request to PMDG for a Yes or No answer:

Will PMDG provide a path to update navigation data (which requires a separate Navigraph subscription) on Xbox?

PMDG has been selling their 737, and soon the 777, on the Xbox Marketplace, with NO warning to customers that the custom navdata (which comes from Navigraph) has no path to be updated, and is thus stuck in time. The navdata in the PMDG 737ng is from April 2022 (v2204).

Everyone acknowledges there were serious technical hurdles with the closed Xbox system. However, with WASM (or whatever other new techniques) Navigraph stated back in March that they have accomplished what is needed for PMDG to get the updates on to Xbox - meaning, updates are now technically possible. So, it only remained for PMDG to DECIDE to provide the update path or not.

I think it is safe to say most paying customers who have bought the PMDG 737 for Xbox, and will buy the 777, appreciate the quality and attention to detail, and pay the full premium price. I for one also appreciate the technical roadblock to providing the navdata updates - which was solved.

However - and I don’t think I’m alone - I perceive a tone of annoyance and dismissiveness from PMDG. From the PMDG Forum: ā€œdemand for Xbox nav updates is extremely low numbers,ā€ even though previously in this forum you’ve said it was being worked on. It should be clear to PMDG that customers on Xbox like myself have stopped flying the 737, and are hesitant to purchase the 777 for the same reason - we have simply given up, which is at least in part why you are seeing ā€œlow numbers.ā€

For me, it comes down to this: There was no warning at purchase that navdata could not be updated. In October 2023, Mathijs Kok said in this forum: ā€œIn the meantime, I will look at the text we use on the Marketplace and see if we want to change that.ā€ … but never did, as far as I know.

Either PMDG should make this issue clear in the Marketplace description, or, provide the update path. Continuing to sell the 737, and upcoming 777, with no clear warning to customers is, in my opinion, less than honest.

So… Will PMDG provide the path to update the navdata for PMDG planes on Xbox?

If the answer is No, then I won’t be buying the 777 for Xbox. I know I’m not alone in this sentiment. Also, Navigraph had unlocked AIRAC v2203 for everyone so that people could try Navigraph. Would it not make business sense for Navigraph and PMDG to unlock a more current version of navdata as a good-faith gesture, and for PMDG to provide it via a Marketplace update to the plane itself?

Thank you.

What state of navigation data will the 777 be able to use on Xbox. Now don’t say the same stand as the 737. In that case I won’t buy.

I’m with you on this point. It has gone on for far too long. I won’t buy the 777 until I see PMDG take a more serious stance on delivery of equal feature sets on Xbox as they offer on PC when other developers can accommodate.

If the AIRAC was a universal issue with all developers I would be understanding. But it’s not.

I’m putting my money we will see the 737 max on Flight sim 2024 before we get the PMDG 737 sorted out.

The developers for whom it is an issue are not on XBox with the exception of PMDG. This includes the Fenix A320, Leonardo Maddog and Aerosoft CRJ. All these aircraft use a custom Navigraph database, and all would have exactly the same problem as PMDG with updating the database if they were on XBox

Yes, but when PMDG made the 737 available on Xbox, they decided to omit in the Marketplace description, the fact that the navdata can not be updated on Xbox. I completely respect that at the time of release, there was no update path given the limitation imposed on Xbox by Microsoft - but they should have said so. If they had been clear about it, I would respect them. But they were not.

Latest update from PMDG forum re: 777 coming to MP including Xbox and the ability to update navdata(w/ subscription) on Xbox. If I read the rest of the post correctly, this should come over to 737 as well.

At least I remain optimistic. (I agree that this should be disclosed in the product description.) That said, I try to stay out of the drama and let the chip fall were they may. Time will tell.
#liveries

Included in this new build are a couple of items that we wanted to get finished in order to ease the Navigraph Navdata update process for PC users as well as for Xbox customers: You can now update your navdata (provided you have a Navigraph subscription) via the Universal Flight Tablet. This will make things seamless right from within the flight deck of your 777.

Glad to at least hear this is acknowledged.

So if I understand, we should see the update for the PMDG 737 on Xbox in about 2 weeks, once it makes its way through the Marketplace ā€œdigestive systemā€.

We all know what comes out of a digestive system, is this PMDG throwing shade at Microsoft and Xbox users?

No. It just takes weeks for MS to check any new Xbox files for any title.

The 777 on Xbox will have its Navigraph database updatable, and we will retrofit that option to the 737. That means the databases can be updated and activated without leaving the simulator.

Wonderful! But I have to ask; any idea as to a timeframe when this might happen? I love flying the 737, but I have one more than one occasion run into issues where waypoints are not in the database and such.
