PMDG Douglas DC-6

Oh man, I SO can’t wait to see an Eastern Air Lines version or two of this bird. I loved flying her in X Plane, and was sad when she wasn’t updated. Now if we could get scenery folks to design a few vintage airports for us!

Fantastic days ahead!

Be sure to check back here

Wasn’t sure if this was for me at first, but the level of care and attention to detail that is being promoted will make it a definite buy provided it lives up to the claims being made.

I love the comment above that in future MSFS will be thought of as pre-PMDG and post-PMDG. The potential of this sim is truly incredible. Maybe this is the moment that it is fulfilled.

Really hope so!

Unbelievably, PMDG doesn’t operate on my schedule ;).

It will release when it’s ready- promise.

Are you privy to the release liveries?
If not in detail, in quantum?

I’ve read elsewhere that it’ll release with the same liveries as the P3D version.

Really really looking forward to learn dealing with this beauty.

And great storytelling

I’ve been back to P3D to check them out.
In the process of trying to get PMDG Operations Center, V2 to update & run I found that I am ending up with a matt grey screen, so I can’t tell at this stage if there are any more liveries available for P3D over & above what I already have.

I remember in Flight Sim 9, I got to the point that I had no interest in anything other than Vintage airliners. Many were from Historic Jetliners Group who made a bunch of awesome ones, like the DC-8, 707, Convair 880-990 etc. Eric Cantu made a sweet 737 family including the 100 and 200. There were Caravelles, Comets, VC-10s and more.

Then one day I found an awesome Lockheed Constellation (can’t remember who made it). Flying this baby from Germany to Brazil, with half a dozen stops in between (a route from Lufthansa’s 1950’s schedule) is one of the most memorable missions of that era for me.

Although to me, the Connie is a much nicer looking plane, I think this DC-6 might be the plane to finally pull me away from piston GA flights in this sim. I’m so looking forward to it.

TAKE MY MONEY PMDG!!!

My first flight in this beauty will be KLAS - KSBA…I cant wait

Hopefully it will be released soon! It’s June and from the screenshots it seems like she is ready to come out of the hangar! Hope it’s not too much longer!

Well, if testers are being allowed to post screenshots it can’t be too far off. A telltale sign that pmdg is getting ready to release a product is they post it in their store with a heinous price.

They said it was going to be released in June.
In my calendar that is quite soon.

Great shots and story my friend!
Can’t wait to do some formation flying with you in this great aircraft!
Hope to capture some screens like this, only with this big beauty instead.

@avaricooper …I may be able to do some flying this weekend, curious to see what model MSFS substitutes for the mighty DC-6. :). I’ll let you know.

So it does sound like pmdg planes are definitely worth the cost then, and will be the best in the sim. Do you think the DC-6 is would be a good beginner step into pmdg products or should I wait for their 737 I have heard so much about? I’m really excited to see more of the 737 as I’ll probably fly it a lot but maybe the DC-6 would be a great introduction for me to the pmdg quality of planes.

Also I know barely anything about the DC-6 as an aircraft so it maybe neat to learn about.

Thanks for the comments. LAS - SBA is a frequent trip for me also. Maybe I’ll get you some pics with a livery or two tomorrow.

@SnappedTiara694 lmk- I should be around in the am.

That all depends on what you like and are looking for. If you have interest in older aircraft, the DC-6 will not disappoint. PMDG’s quality is across all their stuff. But if you are set on modern airliners, the 737 is going to work better for you. They are VERY different aircraft, so the operations will be night and day. But in terms of quality, I don’t think you can go wrong with ANY of their stuff. I suggest watching their DC-6 Tutorials on their official YouTube channel. They give a great idea what to expect.

As Jeremy says, it‘s totally different aircraft. But PMDG have always had the philosophy that everyone can fly their aircraft. There are things to consider though: in P3D the engine start command doesn‘t work. The airplanes‘ systems are correctly simulated and there are no shortcuts or „dumbing downs“. They work like the real airplane. But every plane (in P3D) has multiple cockpit states so if you can‘t or don‘t want to start the plane up you can select a running panel state and go. The Boeings can all be flown by beginners without damaging the aircraft, it might not be correct procedures and you might end in jail in reality  but you can have fun in the sim. The more time and will you spend the better you become and the PMDG forum is full of knowledgable pilots, engineers and experienced simmers who help gladly.

As said, there is no Ctrl-E though, you have to think a bit and at least read the Introduction manual :D. Flying these airplanes by the book is extremely satisfying and I‘ve never regretted the purchase.

No Ctrl-E, but I assume you can just start on a runway, which effectively does the same thing.
