That’s not how P3D works. You can start on a runway or at the gate, but the sim doesn’t treat them as different in terms of cold and dark or not. So, PMDG, FSLabs, Aerosoft all rely on these panel states in MCDU to specify what your DEFAULT state is… and if you load in that state (for instance, cold and dark), you can then immediately go to MCDU and load another state, like… ready to taxi. That saves you all the startup procedures. Which is GREAT with PMDG/FSLabs et al.
The thing that drives me nuts is… there are developers who don’t provide a way for you to configure a default start state. Some Carenado aircraft in P3D are that way… so every time you start them, no matter if it’s on the runway or at the gate, they will usually load either running or in some sort of half-way in between state where some things are on, but others are off, etc… I really hate that. All the default aircraft are that way too - no way to configure default states for them. That’s one thing that really drives me nuts about P3D. Individual developers have addressed it though… A2A, Milviz, and other good ones all have a way to configure for a cold and dark state.
CaptainSim is actually a good example of an annoying one - their 757, 767, and 737 don’t have a DEFAULT state. So they load up with battery running, some other stuff too, but the engines are off and no ground power is connected. So if you aren’t quick enough to shut it all down or connect a GPU, you will run your battery down. It’s REALLY irritating.

There are CFG files in the aircraft folder that define system states for spawns in different situations, such as cruise, runway, or apron.
I assume they would make use of these? Otherwise a spawn in air is going to be a hair raising experience.
I have no idea. I have never attempted to spawn anything in air on ANY simulator. That is something I am never going to do… that’s one of the reasons the MSFS Landing Challenges drive me nuts - they spawn you in the air and you have no idea what is going on. Are my flaps deployed? If so, how much? Is my AP on? Auto-throttle? Is my gear down or up? I have to quickly figure all that out and usually there really isn’t enough time for you to get situated before you have to land. Awful things, they are…

It depends how they have set it up. For example the CRJ uses custom panel states so it doesn’t work if you try and spawn mid air. We will just have to wait and see.

This looks fantastic. I hope its operable in VR.
YES- Jason (one of the primary developers) uses and loves it in VR. I’ve been waiting for 4K VR- when that happens, my 65" 4k is history

There’s a READY FOR TAXI panel state that can have you moving (with all the switches set correctly) in one button push after loading on stand.

Viva Las Vegas!

@newbraindead FLYTAMPA has always been one of my very favorite scenery developers- they have done a superlative job for DECADES! Ta mate- this one’s for you.

I haven’t flown without @OrbxEd Orbx Simulations scenery since FSX and could NOT imagine doing so. If you aren’t familiar with https://orbxdirect.com/ you owe yourself a visit. Your sim will never be the same again!

Are you flying a Beta or pre-release version of the DC-6?
Orbx Special Envoy??

I just watched some of the tutorials on their youtube channel and I am absolutely thrilled.
The detail level of the engine management is stellar. I could even imagine flying the thing as an engineer only, as it is so interesting to handle those radials the right way. You even have water injection. The simulated vibrations (harmony!) also add a great deal to immersion.
This could well be my new MSTS favorite.
And not to forget: The tutorials as such are highest quality and its worthwhile to watch all of them as they are as instructive as they are entertaining.
Cant wait to hear the Radials singing for Takeoff.

I Beta Test for PMDG.
I appreciate Orbx, FlyTampa, FSDT, FlightBeam, LVFR and the MANY other payware and freeware scenery developers whom I rely on to make my Sim the way I want it to be. I would be remiss in not publicly expressing my gratitude to @LorbySI whom I rely on for his fantastic Axis’ & Ohs program EVERY flight in MSFS.
No compensation, no special envoy status- just an appreciative CUSTOMER who knows there are a lot of newcommers to this simulator, who may appreciate some guidance from someone who has done this for a very long time (too long if you ask the Trolly Dolly).
It is my fervent hope that this post exposes newcomers to this delightful aircraft. If along the way, I can guide them towards a superlative sim experience, I’ll be content.
Hope this answers your questions @ThreeGuide4354

Not meant as a derogatory reference, but in modern parlance, such is your enthusiasm for the product & quality of your screen shots, you could easily qualify as an ‘influencer’
In the above shots, are your MSFS Graphics set on 'Ultra?
The pricing is going to be interesting. Currently the P3D v3 & 4 DC-6 Cloudmaster Base Package is listed at $69.99.

Not sure why the pricing is gonna be “interesting”… I fully expect it to remain the same as P3D. We may be surprised, but I have a feeling it will stick

Respectfully, I detest the term, and sincerely hope it’s never used to reference me. Then again, I’m less than enthusiastic about much in society currently. Perhaps that’s the reason I’m so taken with the Six, it hearkens to a more genteel age.
As far as pricing, I have NO IDEA. PMDG runs wonderfully without my input.
I am very glad that you (and others) seem to be enjoying the post. If it illuminates possibility for some new aficionados, I’d be thrilled.

With equal respect, that is exactly what you are doing by creating this thread, and extolling this products virtues.
It’s not right or wrong, it just is. If someone reads this thread then thinks “That looks really good, I think I’ll buy that”, then by design or not that individual was influenced to buy it.
Not knocking you, in fact keep the content coming if you are allowed, as it looks amazing. I’ve never bought an airliner before, so this might be my first. You see, it worked!

Awesome post and pictures !!! Thanks a lot for sharing
I do plan to buy this wonderfurl addon the first minute it is available. I have already flown PMDG products before (737 family) and they are top notch no only in quality but also in support.
The DC-6 is a must for me since I am really interested in Douglas radial engine planes.

as with everything i will wait for reviews, but no doubt the plane is fantatstic,
i wonder about the system impact, performance i mean, i have a very mediocre system.
piper arrow 3 justflight runs great.
