PMDG Douglas DC-6

When will it be released in the marketplace? Have they made an official statement if they’ll release it in the marketplace too? I’ll buy it once it gets released in the marketplace, not a day sooner…

It’s the first official plane for an american president Dwight D. Eisenhower, the french Boxer Marcel Cerdan die on it … the price of a such mythic doesn’t matter.

After that i hope a DC3 and tante JU (iron Annie, Ju 52) et pour les français un latecoere 300 par exemple … i hope

It will be available in the PMDG website on friday, they already have the placeholder there.
They have said they will also offer it in the marketplace but that it can take months to be offered there.

I am such a knob… I have to edit my posts. I am sorry guys, I got companies mixed up, getting old. Aeroplane Heaven DC 3 is all well and good. What was I thinking… There was some problem in the beginning with the engines but that was patched… I cannot remember which was the bad one. I am mighty sorry. So still looking forward to that.

OK, yeah, I was surprised. AH stuff is usually pretty solid! I have their GlobeSwift and it’s great!

AHs C-119 would be great and I’d also like to see JFs C-46.

Yes, prior to COVID I’d travel 50,000-90,000 miles. Honestly, it was a mistake though, Alienware laptop only has an hour of power, and it’s huge, so it’s really a ‘portable desktop’ not a laptop

Have there been DC-6es that got equipped with an INS during the 60s or 70s? That could be a good option for an AP.

Yes! I’ve been thinking after a few practice circuits, my first mission will be something like this;

it was an historic route?

Yeah, you can download historic timetables for hundreds of airlines from this site;

Back in FS9 I was part of a Lufthansa virtual airline, and I used to fly old steam gauge planes (from 737-100, Constellation, 747-100/200) on historic routes. I quite enjoyed it, and we’ll see if it still appeals to me now.

I think one of the more exciting aspects of the DC-6 is the livery potential from the wide range of operators around the World.
The Wikipedia list is extensive.

Most of my favourite airlines are there (no Lufthansa or BOAC though). Lots of amazing ‘milk run’ routes to fly on tons of airlines. Then if you want to do military you can fly transport missions in support of the Korean War, or if you want to ‘stretch’ things you can even pretend it’s a DC-4 and fly in the Berlin Airlift.

And the very next day, you can fly a much needed supply flight to a remote northern community in using airlines that are currently operating DC-6s.

Yes my comment was uncalled for, it was late and I guess I am a GOM.
I had watched the stream and it had some highlights, this short clip of the Thunderflies (2) TheFlyingFabio - Twitch was priceless

You can certainly fly it that way. It’s a procedural airplane, but not as relentlessly so as a modern airliner with an FMC. There are systems to look after but the artificial flight engineer will help. There are phases of flight - especially descent and then leveling off and slowing down ahead of the initial approach fix - that go better if you bring some operational discipline to the process. The kind of flying you’re talking about is probably more suited to a DC-3. There’ll be one upcoming from Aeroplane Heaven - they did a very good P3D version - but there’s no release date as yet.

Hope this helps.

i wish it was like games on steam and it would come out at midnight , would be neat

A few of us had problems starting the engines on the DC-3 but not the C-47. If I recall correctly, there was an issue in the aircraft.cfg about the way fuel shutoff was handled. They fixed it very quickly. An enjoyable product - I’m looking forward to the MSFS version.

Can you in any way combine this with ATC, directing you up and down and barking to expedite? Or is ATC best ignored when flying this aircraft? I can’t imagine a calculated descent sitting well with ATC directions.

ATC is best ignored. The problem is that it’s designed for jetliners, which make rapid descents at idle power much closer to the destination. If you rely on it in the DC-6, it’ll keep you at altitude much too long, then expect you to come down at 4,000 feet per minute, which you can’t do.

When I used default ATC in P3D, I limited myself to getting taxi instructions and a takeoff clearance. After that I ignored it - didn’t even tune subsequent freqencies - until on final, to get other traffic out of the way. Most times I didn’t even do that - just planned my route and flew it. Did my own descent planning and handled it pretty much the way you see in the PMDG tutorials.

If there were ATC add-ons, you could conceivably write a profile for the DC-6. But we don’t have that option for MSFS right now.

If you fly with “live” ATC on VATSIM or one of the other services, you can request an early descent. You may have to explain why you need it - propliners aren’t in the majority - but I’m told that most of the controllers are pretty accommodating once they understand why you’re making the request.

It’s rewarding to “plan your flight and fly your plan.” But except for live ATC, it’s a solo activity.

Hope this helps.
