Great plane, not my kind of streamer.
Do you know if the paint-kit layout is similar to prior versions, including X Plane?
No more than $50 at this stage and on the PMDG store only - assuming this will run ok in VR. For the price, I might consider it for more later as long as reviews are stellar and performance in VR is ok (which I not a give obviously)
Tbh those influencer type videos do nothing for me at all.
I will wait for streams with real airplane pilots like flightdeck2sim.
You know that Fabio is a real life pilot, and instructor, right?
Were you perhaps referring to a different streamer?
I just have zero interest in this plane. Makes me sad, because I’m dying to have a pro airliner in the sim! Just not this one.
“More depth” is probably subjective. What you’ll see here that is different from a jet engine is the living breathing set of 4 radials, and PMDG tends to capture the vararies of that well that most sims gloss over some of the details. Certainly I’m sure the CRJ has its own depth. Actually getting into the details of an FMC is not something that there is anything to compare to in a DC-6, but there’s definitely a huge amount of depth there that’s important, too. Seeing what it’s really like to be a corporate pilot and all their responsibilities, etc… At the same time, the DC-6 will harken back to a set of navigational skills that are quickly fading into dust, and some enjoy that.
As far as the “elitism” you speak of, it’s not that at all, I think you’re perceiving the situation incorrectly. There’s a contingent of users out there who look at all the dials and read all the steps of what it takes to start the plane and think it’ll be more work than they care to do, or they think they’ll be too confused by it all. So PMDG is making sure to help people understand it’s not all that bad. I mean, real men and women (IOW, not super men), with training, flew these planes for real, granted there were three of them on deck to do it all, but, in the end, as you noted, it’s not anything to be scared of.
(of course then there’s also the contingent out there that are all “Blahhhhh, that’s wayyyy to much to charge for a few lines of code and a little modeling. How dare you!!!”, and they’ll look for any excuse to knock anything out there to satiate something inside them, who knows what, and blaming elitism is just one of their excuses)(I’m not suggesting that’s what you’re doing, you’re not).
I love this post.
And it shows exactly where Asobo or a third party could take ATC if Asobo opened it up for them. Being able to write profiles for different types of aircraft would be a super cool option for ATC.
4- 100$
yes
I believe Radar Contact 4 had an aircraft profile feature, and maybe others did, too. It’s been a while since I’ve used an ATC addon, so I don’t recall.
The problem is that those programs had their own quirks. Remember how RC4 treated you if you missed a waypoint?
The challenge with simulating ATC is that in the real world, it’s a negotiated space where participants are constantly improvising. Yes, it’s rules-based and rules-bound, but unexpected things are continually happening that break the routine and demand an an-hoc response.
Over on the X-Plane frontier, Austin and Ben have been talking for a while about a truly AI-driven ATC that would create that kind of unpredictable, constantly changing environment. But it’s a tall order - which may explain why VATSIM, IVAO and PilotEdge all have a niche.
Maybe it’s a task that Azure could take on, once it’s done rendering creative buildings and landscape features…
Guys how is Fabio annoying? He is way better than other ridiculous streamers who pull out a Guerilla mask and play cringey sounds when someone subscribes. Atleast Fabio doesn’t waste a lot of time doing stupid stuff like that. Check out his PMDG stream today. He explains everything step by step which is really helpful for new DC6 pilots.
I used to do short VFR flights with it all the time. In fact my first flight with it will be one I’ve done a lot with the P3D version, KJQF - KAVL - 2NC0
It’s an interesting thought experiment. PMDG would definitely sell more copies at $35-40 than they would at $100. But would they sell more than twice as many? They make more selling 1,000 copies at $100 than 2,285 copies at $35, because of support costs, particularly with a complex sim. But I’m guessing they’d sell enough more at an under-$50 price to compensate for high support costs and make more than they will with an FSX/P3D survey-level pricing scheme.
I’m in for $70 or less, but I’m hoping with the big MSFS market they’ll aim for $50 or under.
A DC-6 out of 2NC0 Mountain Air? Wow.
I’ve seen a few of the youtubes, where the plane is handled expertly. But how flexible is it? What happens if you nose dive? Or take it really steep up (apart from stalling)? Bank it too crazy? On all the promotional stuff it looks really static. Some more crazy flying to show its capabilities would have been informative.
I understand it’s meant to be a peaceful airplane just floating along… it’s not a crop duster. I’m just wondering how quickly it falls apart if you do some stunts with it. How easy it is to lose control if it’s not handled properly? Will it protect me against my crude piloting skills or will it kill me without blinking an engine?
I bet this will cost $129.99…Robert needs the extra cash to buy Avgas 115/145 octane for his DC-3
He is annoying because he is over dramatic, Maybe it was just this video, but it didn’t appeal to me at all. That’s not to take away from him or his character, its like Actor’s…some you like, some you dont.
The video just seemed like it was aimed at kids.
haha me too!
