Poor performance on the ground

As a heads-up, this bug report has now appeared on the Feedback Snapshot, and it appears that it is already being worked on which is very encouraging.

I am baffeld, that this is new information to you. Just go through this thread and see what is known in the community about the PG issue on ground (especially in the us) and never acknowledge by the devs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is new information to the developers as well, which is unfortunate since we’ve been discussing it for what seems like a year or more, in various topics.

Thanks to the mods for passing along the information though.

The formulation of the sentence was not perfect, as the workaround is not really “new” (also for me).
I edited my post accordingly to eliminate the misunderstanding, since with “new” I rather meant that recent reports indicated that the PG workarounds helped/worked for further users and that this is the most current information to date. As stated above, this topic is logged and mentioned in the Feedback Snapshot.

I wonder what will be downgraded to achieve that? Performance increase means downgrades in graphics and visuals right? Turn down terrain LOD in graphics options increase the performance on ground. While on ground everything is so much more detailed. Don’t blame xbox after the performance increase. Xbox always gets the blame when we want them to decrease graphics to improve performance. I’m a pc user and i don’t want them to do more performance increases/graphics downgrades.

I don’t think there will be a degradation, because there was no visual improvement that caused the extremely poor ground performance in the first place. Fixing the photogrammetry DLC bug should provide a good boost, and with the other issues gone we will be back to where Sim Update 5 was.

Hope you are right. The cpu has always been limited by main thread on ground for me. To fix that i reduce terrain lod. I would like a min max of terrainlod. On ground i could set a min and then it increase to my max while climbing.

@HethrMasn is right. Thanks for passing it along.

The impact of this issue is quite big. On my system it is around 50% fps in KSAN. And there are many users more or less impacted by it.

The information are here to isolate the problem, so i hope for a solution. If they really can’t reproduce it, i can bring my system to Bordeaux.

My hope is that this specific issue may show a way to improve performance with PG in general and not just related to this specific bug. We shall see.

Turn on developer mode and the stuttering should stop

I wish there was some more nuanced LOD options available in the scenery. Like how FSX and P3D will draw autogen in a smaller radius, but also draw taller buildings/skyline elements well beyond the autogen area. This way we can still see prominent skyline features as we would on the ground at the gate or in the air, but don’t have the have all the autogen drawn in between the player’s aircraft and the prominent buildings/landmarks. Might help with performance.

Your wish aligns with a wishlist item I created. Not exactly the same, but pretty close. I think a mixed implementation of our ideas would be great.

and here’s another related wishlist item:

Hello everyone, I’ve been following this discussion for some time because I too “suffered” from the same disease.
But now I have to say that something for the better is moving, at least from how I am seeing on my system. So, I want to share this … and I ask you if you can give some feedback.

On my profile … my hardware, Nvidia driver I’m using 512.59.
I’m testing with a dedicated scenario of mine that makes extensive use of terraform with heightmap (Enhanced Terrain Mesh) which has a great impact on the LOD value of the terrain and therefore on the system RAM. Up until a few days ago I had a ton of stuttering and slowdowns.
Then, since I updated two apps from the Microsoft Store, things have improved enormously.

The two Apps (to be updated) are:

Xbox vers. 2205.1000.17.0
Gaming Services vers. 3.65.8001.0

To test, whatever you want, go to this link below and grab any one. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Regards

Enhanced Terrain Mesh

I thougt i had uninstalled all xbox apps. Thanks to you, i had a look and found 4 xbox-services, which are now permanently deactived too. Multiplayer still works and my PG-problem is stil the same. So i don’t see a difference.

Let me understand … you have the Store version and have you uninstalled the XBox (live) app and you have no errors?

I am secptical about the influence on performance, because the programmes you mentioned are not needed for the sim. Atleast on my system. I have the steam version.

Just landed at Vancouver and the fps plummeted. Not even an area heavily detailed with photogrammetry!

Some of you may have already tried this, some of you may already have it on.
But if you don’t, try applying a Rolling Cache.

I thought I’d give one a go for the first time thinking it wouldn’t make any difference but it actually did!
I made a 16GB one and noticed about 4-6 frames more when on the ground at airports.

This is so annoying, i hope they fix it. i am literally scared of being on the ground atm lol

I have a 11900K@5GHZ and a GTX3090 and FPS just go from 50fps into the 20s on the ground on big airports. i also noticed that if i start at an airport, fly around a little bit and come back, fps are even less.
