How awesome is this! My performance problem with PG in KSAN seems finally fixed with the current World update USA2. I get around 15-20 FPS more in KSAN than before the update with PG on. This is as good as in other PG regions!!!
But maybe i was a little bit to early. In KLAX i still only get 13-15 FPS and stuttering with PG and smooth 33+FPS without.
just for reference to what is already known ā¦
- all WU PG Cities installed
- none installed
- only the new USA II WU Cities installed ā¦
FPS Meter shows fps at RWY 25 KLAX on ULTRA and TLOD 200 ā¦
so, any idea whats going on with this? Im getting a bit frustrated by now. Its many months and nothing at all has happened. Opposite, for thousands of people its getting worse.
It would be no problem, one could simply turn it off But sadly Asobo decided to have the Autogen in those areas consisting of simple blocks that remind more of Minecraft than anything else. Often they dont even have any detail at all. Simple one-colored blocks.
Its the same story that still hasnt been fixed. For most of us who fly in canada or the US, just need to keep all the pg cities uninstalled unless you wanna fly in a different wu pg areaā¦in that case, reinstall, fly there, then immediately uninstall. Its pretty annoying but at least theres a workaroundā¦
My hunch is PG cities from other regions are getting loaded into memory when flying in the US. Why it might be happen? Who knows but itās not a coincidence that when you remove the PG cities the FPS jump at US airports which means something is going on in the back end.
Unfortunately, the situation may be even have worsened. Until now, we could deactivate PG cities when flying in the US, but activate them as needed when flying in Europe etc.
Now, the recent US WU 2 update added another PG package specifically for the US (fs-base-coverage-map-US2.tin). I guess this is new PG beyond those US PG cities we already got upon release or with US WU1.
Will we leave this active when flying in the US? Obviously we should. But will it drag perfornance like its cousins do?
I just detected this but didnāt find time for investigation yet.
Can confirm that the new USA World Update seems to be making things worse. Landing at Laguardia from the New York discovery flight with LOD 400 would bring me to ~11 FPS and about 6 FPS while panning the camera around, now itās at ~8 FPS and 2-4 FPS when panning the camera. Even with LOD 50 Iām struggling to maintain a constant 30 FPS on the ground now.
I was hoping the small content updates to previous World Updates (which included the photogrammetry files) would provide some relief, but it appears we need to wait for a Sim Update to fix this. Hopefully Sim Update 10 will be the oneā¦
I understand how you feel and how frustrating it can be, especially since you cannot do much about it.
Unfortunately I can not provide you with new information. As the feedback snapshot shows that work on it has started, I think that the devs do their best to get it fixed in SU X, but if the fix isnāt ready in time, it is just not ready unfortunately . As I donāt see anything to suspect otherwise, pressing for more information is probably not helpful, although we would love to know when we can finally say goodbye to this problem.
I have always a better performance on the xboxseriess than the xboxseriesx.
Always the same result in the same network.
The Pic above is from XBoxseriesS ..the second is from XBOXseriesX
Maybe the Series S needs not as much bandwidth as the SeriesX..
So ā¦I donāt know what`s going on.
The Xbox Series S has the same CPU as the Series X but clocked ~200MHz lower, so they are nearly identical in performance. However, MSFS on the Series S is using a much lower Terrain LOD value (probably due to its limited memory amount) which means that not only will it run smoother, but also stream in the terrain faster from the servers (since itās requesting a lower overall level of detail).
Right now it is obvious that MainThread performance is suffering badly when Terrain LOD is set to higher values and that the servers are having trouble streaming at adequate speed (which also causes all these low bandwidth warnings), so once they take care of both of these issues the experience on the Series X should be good again.
I donāt know how, but issue has been magically solved for me after last World Update. I do not have 20 FPS less on ground with PG ON, but terrible stutters are still present (which were cause by Sim Update IX)
Terrain LOD is the biggest performance killer. I keep my setting at 125, itās not ideal for eye candy but itās the only setting that keeps my FPS fluid and stutter free.
Hi all. I noted a thing.
I just change GPU from a 1070 and MEDIUM settings in 2k to 3070ti ULTRA settings always in 2k.
I never had problem with MEDIUM settings (photogrammetry on)
With the 3070 is almost always better with fps, also 50/60 BUT:
Now for exemple when iām on ground in EDDN (with stock scenery) it make 20fps. No sense for me.. with photogrammetry off is perfect..
Why in ULTRA is so bad and in MEDIUM was fine?
Also in LICC with BMW scenary, the same thing.. ULTRA 20fps, MEDIUM 60fps..
I read some post here but i donāt understand, is better turn off the photogrammetry or delete the small 3dcityphotogrammetry from content manager?
@simoxmino You want to see what works better for you. Deleting the 3D photogrammetry cities of the places you wonāt be flying from the content manager and restarting may give you a performance boost while still being able to enjoy photogrammetry. If you donāt care about photogrammetry at all you can just turn it off.
Medium sets the Terrain LOD to 50, while Ultra sets it to 200. Even though you bought a better GPU, you are now limited by your CPU (Terrain LOD is more intensive on the CPU, RAM, I/O and connection bandwidth rather than the GPU).
As f14billy said, experiment with the various methods to find what works best for you. If you want all photogrammetry cities enabled, the only workaround for now is to reduce your Terrain LOD to something that will give you adequate performance (keep the other settings to Ultra).
Hereās a few things that have worked for me so I can have fluid FPS in most scenariosā¦
-Move PG cities into a backup folder and only keep the region Iām flying active.
-Keep Terrain LOD at 105-125, anything over 150 my FPS start decreasing and stutters increase.
-I disable all tabs in the toolbar and only enable the tab when I need it. The VFR map tab seems to cause FPS drops and stutters.
-I use intelligent standby list cleaner which helps with stutters.
-I only keep folders in the community folder which I am actively using. The rest are moved to a backup folder.
I was completely wrong. Issue was not solved at all, thereās still massive performance hit when near ground in PG City. It just looks itās place - related. In most places in PG city I do have performance drop, but in some I do not⦠Asobo, itās time to fix it already!
I did some testing last night and as expected, the new WU also affects performance unfortunately.

Brief description of the issue:
I landed at Seattle with fine FPS, and after spawning back in from filing another flight plan, it constantly froze for a couple seconds at a time and often dips to about 5 seconds per frame. Before world update X I was getting about 25-30 FPS on the ground.
