Tried again today and I can confirm that stopping this holographic c**p gives me more than 10 fps gain in VR, and no stutters or black bands when turning my head.
Best flight ever today (it was Angola to Namibia, so neither other traffic nor custom airports or landscapes), but I still can’t believe my eyes…
Whoever figured out this crazy trick will have my gratitude forever…
Hi Oldpapamo- Turning off holographic shell seems to have worked for me too
I’m interested to use your batch file but i’m not good with computers
I have opened note pad as administrator, then copied “logman stop HolographicShell -ets”
what do I do next -
does “save with a bat extension” just mean type .bat at the end of the file name?
and where on the PC should I save it?
Thanks in advanced !!
Agree. Hope Asobo can fix this so you dont have to do it every time
this is a very good tip. worked for me right away. Hope Asobo fixes this to be a permanent solution so that you don’t have to do this every time.
Hope Asobo see this.
Interestingly, since I stopped the HS application yesterday it has not resumed with reboots. In fact, I can’t even find it listed now. Still working smoothly, though so I’m not complaining.
Wouldn’t that be a Microsoft Windows issue, shouldn’t the fix come from them. I would assume the problem lies within the holographic shell and applies to all games, not just MSFS. Or am I wrong?
that may well be true, but I’ve played a game where I have to turn off a setting every time I play it. should therefore be the developer who fixes the problem or?
Other games are also affected. Todays cumulative update for 22H2 KB5018427 does not solve this.
Seems to me MS needs to move ahead with developing Windows. It’s up to Asobo to make the Sim work with Windows, not the other way around.
Yes, save it as .BAT file (e.g. in your desktop) and run its as administrator before starting MSFS.
Works like a charm, really I still can’t believe how smooth MSFS runs with the G2 after this silly trick…
Hi, thanks for this, off topic but is it possible to write a bat. File for Clear environmental data in the mixed reality settings? Thanks
Does this have any effect on W10, or only 11?
Thanks that fixed it!
Fantastic fix, thank you man, you are a genius!! smooth as butter as long as we disable this useless holographic Process!!!
Can anyone confirm that the latest NVIDIA 522.25 driver fixes this problem?
No it doesn’t. I still run the workaround every time I plug back in my headset as the HolographicShell appears in the list and starts.
It looks like the latest Windows Insider build contains a fix related to this issue: Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25227 | Windows Insider Blog
Made a change to address an issue which could lead to performance degradation when using performance monitoring tools which leveraged the Microsoft-Windows-DxgKrnl ETW provider. This also impacted performance for Windows Mixed Reality.
They also note that:
Some fixes noted here in Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel may make their way into the servicing updates for the released version of Windows 11.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Yes.
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
Exact same issue. Most noticable when moving head in VR. Reverb G2 V2 and this happens even before launching MSFS. Topic is not solved. I do not even have the Holographicshell entry described in the so called solution. P.S. I see this only appears after starting VR..
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
I suggest you may need to research .entry exist .disabled cures .microsoft acknowledged and fixed in insider preview.
I had a three week break from MSFS and when I came back yesterday everything was a stuttery mess. When I turned my head I was basically staring into a black abyss for a second until the view refreshed.
I first thought maybe it’s just a SU11 thing that will eventually get fixed but decided to do some digging around the forums. Then I noticed it’s not only MSFS but WMR Home was very stuttery as well.
Thanks for the script. This command fixed the issue immediately for me.
I also saved it as a bat file and added it to startup apps in windows. Didn’t have time to actually test if this setup works yet but I’ll report back.
