How do you auto run? Would be great if you could explain
You can try these steps:
- Save the script as .bat file
- Create a shortcut
- Add the shortcut to the startup folder
Simple fix (atleast works for me)
go to "C:\Windows\Temp\DiagOutputDir" here u see 4 files, all collect data on the headset, just select all 4 and rightclick them, now put them on Read Only, restart PC.
The service still runs, but the files remain 0kb and no more stutters.
Let me know if it works for u guys to!
Interesting, will try this out. So far i have ben stopping the holographicshell process manually.
The reason I doubt .BAT files running at startup would work is that for me, sometimes the holographicshell process does not appear for a good few minutes after the VR is triggered, many times the WMR screen will start up fine, but when i press ātoggle vrā to go to FS, the screen is jittery as ever and that process has kicked in.
That folder (āDiagOutputDirā) does not exist in my Windows/Temp directory in windows 11
It seems that a new W11 22h2 update is coming shortly to fix the issue:
FYI: UPDATE 10/21: Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25227 | Windows Insider Blog
- Made a change to address an issue which could lead to performance degradation when using performance monitoring tools which leveraged the Microsoft-Windows-DxgKrnl ETW provider. This also impacted performance for Windows Mixed Reality. As a reminder, if youāre experiencing performance issues, please see here for steps on filing actionable performance feedback.
sry for those who didnt get it ill explain in more detail, if u go to the holoshell trace log and right click properties, u can see the output directory, for me this was āDiagOutputDirā just check which folder it is if its a different folder and put the files on read only, its not just bad for VR its also bad for your hard disk, if u check microsoft forums on this topic people are actually complaying about huge disk usage as well cause of this.
Also this is a permanent solution, so no more restarting and having to do it again.
Iād call this a band-aid rather than a permanent fix - the system is still repeatedly bashing away at trying to access those files. it just canāt do it.
A real fix is to stop the process from happening, not sure how to do that though.
Those four files on my drive take up about 300mb of space too !
I still cannot find out what or why it needs event logging - seems like a massive resource hog.
well i dont work at microsoft, this is my solution for no FPS loss
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OPās steps to reproduce it?
Yes I do. exact same issue. Performance overall is very bad in VR. but extremely bad when moving your head.
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
I havenāt played in a month or so. But last time I played right after i baught my RTX 3070, I played in VR after adjusting my settings to that of what the internet advised and it ran great.
now the performance is terrible in general. and much worse if you move your head. no matter how low you put all of the settings.
I use an oculus Rift S.

This doesnāt seem to work. Iāve now created an exe file that executes the script and then linked it to the EXE.xml so the script should execute every time I launch MSFS.

Increasing Ndu Start to HEX 4 solves the issue almost! Little remaining stuttering is still there. Hope MS comes up with a solution (Win 11, 22H2, RTX3070).

Having same issues since went to Win 11. Not smooth transition at all when turning head, moving head. Hope they fix soon, was great on win 10. also seems harder on my video card since win 11 upgrade.

This fixed the issue for me, thanks!
This advice fixed my stutter / low frame rate issue with the G2 after updating to Windows 11 22H2. Thank you Kilumbus5901.
Thanks to everybody giving advice in this thread. I now run the following batch file when I want to run MSFS and all works perfectly.
@echo off
logman stop HolographicShell -ets
c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App "-FastLaunch"
timeout /t 30 /nobreak
wmic process where name="FlightSimulator.exe" CALL setpriority "high priority"
Hello Guys
I donāt have HolographicShell in the DatacollectorSets ā Event Trace Sessions, searched for the HollograpicShell in my whole computer and canāt find that on any list, where can it be?
I am suffering terrible VR stutterings, is there a way to fix this?
I also installed the latest nvidia drivers, didnāt fix anything.
In order to see HolographicShell, you have to run Mixed Reality Portal.
