Hey guys,
I have been using a quest 2 and up until last night was very unhappy with the visuals and performance like many others.
These changes made a world of difference, so much so that I have fallen in love with this headset all over again! IT IS POSSIBLE FOR GREAT FRAME RATES AND GREAT VISUALS!
My hardware is running a 10900k with 2080 super and 16gb ram.
I noticed before these changes my CPU usage was around 20-25%, my RAM was hitting 11000 and my GPU would get to around 30%. It was stuttery and if I took my headset off or changed in game options, it was extremely stuttery. The distant visuals looked hazy and blurred.
THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO!
Make sure you follow this to the end:
-
Ensure Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is off.
-
Turn off game mode in pc settings.
-
Turn off Geforce overlays in the Geforce app
-
Make sure you are using the oculus openxr to run the sim NOT STEAM!
THIS NEXT STEP IS THE GAME CHANGER I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. I AM TALKING 50% PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AND 100% VISUAL IMPROVEMENT.
- Roll back your drivers to Nvidia 446.14 (THIS IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE)
NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL SETTINGS
-
Ensure power management mode is set to maximum performance.
-
Change vertical refresh rate to fast
After doing this, my cpu usage was 10-12%, my ram was between 3500-4000 and my GPU was sitting at 98% (this is a good thing)
OCULUS PC APP
- Set refresh rate to 80hz
- Set render slider all the way to the right.
I experience no stutters, I can take the headset off and put it back on without the huge lagging.
My visuals in the cockpit are crisp, the distant scenery is no longer hazy and is crisp.
Its running so much smoother and most of my in game settings are high/ultra.
A huge thanks to a guy called Nick Babalis for telling me about these drivers. I cannot tell you what a difference this has made, you really need to see it for yourself.
Please try and let me know your thoughts.
Hopefully Asobo see this and it will help them make future improvements as will the newest drivers it was absolutely dreadful in comparison.
Cheers!
Maudy
