Hello All,
Reaching out to any Quest 3 users in MSFS2020 to see if anyone can advise on how I can try and eliminate stutters I seem to be getting in the sim. I’m at the point it’s really spoiling the immersion & I’ve just run out of ideas & at same time unsure what to change for best.
My Quest 3 software is V72.
In the sim I have the VR settings at medium & I’ve even tried low end setting but its still the same. Its seems to stutter worst when banking left or right. I can move my head in the sim & vision is smooth but flying along I get micro pauses & stutters. No live weather, no traffic of any kind.
Current Nvidia driver is 566.36. DLss files all as per original with the sim
Screenshots below. Any help much appreciated.
No matter what settings I dial down or up, once game latency gets in the 20’s that is its a stutter fest. I can tweak settings & I think yep that’s cracked it but then after a few mins of flying its back in the 20’s
Hi Baracus,
Yes tried Ultra & not sure I noticed much difference in performance. Will test again.
Tried all the codecs & again cant say there’s any difference between them. 264+ wont work as it just shows a black screen when entering VR.
I’m running DLSS which I’ve tried balanced & Quality. Screenshots are in Balanced. TAA is worse.
Texture resolution is High, most settings are Medium, shadow settings are mostly off.
Pressing shift+G doesn’t seem to do anything while in VR on my PC.
This is 2020 & Router is right next to me.
Thanks
You need to look on your monitor (look under your nose) to see it. Oh you may also need Game Bar installed (but Game Mode can be off).
Have you tried the new DLSS4 thing yet (well, 310.2.x)? Then you can possibly run Performance setting and it will still look better than Quality used to.
Try Medium. For real
You might be surprised. I always used High. Tried Ultra last night (as I was getting some weird font & label degradation) and made no difference to visuals but definitely made more stutters and higher VRAM usage. So for giggles I tried Medium. Still looks the same and seems a lot less choked.
Finally, are you using OXR Toolkit?
There is a setting in there that I HAVE to have, otherwise I do get stutters. Turbo Mode = ON. Worth it just for that but you can also do some other useful stuff in there to improve visuals and reduce juddering when turning head.
I’ve not tried the new DLSS thingy yet only installed latest driver. No DLSS files have been tampered with in the sim. I have tried to follow the Thread on here about the new driver but to be honest it’s completely lost me on what you have to do as just to nay posts.
Yes will give Medium a go for sure
No not got open xr toolkit so may give that a try. Do you need to download open xr for windows too & the Oculus app?
Can you share your OPXRT settings as this may help.
Set it up with FlightSimulator2020.exe (browse for it) and when in VR you press CTRL + F2 to access the in-game menu.
Then CTRL + F1 to go left, CTRL + F2 to go down (it cycles back to the top of menu when you get to the bottom), CTRL + F3 to go right.
I am not on my PC until Monday now but from memory:
First page (Performance): set Turbo Mode ON, Sharpening = CAS
Next page (Appearance): nothing there unless you want
Inputs: motion over-compensation = set a negative value (like -50%) and see. It really helps smooth out cockpit movement for me.
System: you can use the Field Of View (“Simple” first) and reduce it until you see black bars at any edge then go back up 1%. You can further tune it in “Advanced” to control each edge separately. This gives a nice clarity boost for zero performance hit. Value you can use depends on your facial mask and the depth you have it at.
All works perfectly. Just done a quick test flight and its the best its ever been, Super smooth now. I was at the point of giving up on VR & I was afraid of telling my other half it was about to go on ebay as it was a xmas present. She wouldn’t have been happy LOL.
Thing is once you’ve tried VR its difficult to go back to 2D flying even with my Tobii 5.
Thanks for your help very much appreciated.
YAY!!! You are most welcome. I know the pain and frustration of being “so close” but those small hitches REALLY killing your enjoyment. It is a never ending road unfortunately but as a community we can at least help each other over the bumps with collective knowledge and discoveries!
It is all so variable though, and what works for one person may not work for another - you just need to find what works best for you, your hardware and the type of flying you do (low ‘n’ slow bush flying is a different thing to going in fast jets and different to flying airliners high-up and into major airports).
This sim can drive you nuts but when it all comes together, you remember why you love it!
My betting it was that Turbo Mode that sorted you out.
Sadly, OXRTK is no longer officially supported so at some point this might stop working but I am going to stick with it until I have no option, then we will find another solution (I hope!).
@Bmthmikey As long as you get good results that 's the main thing mate.
However, I still think ! get better results with both my QPro and Q3 using an official Link Cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type-c port.
Even Air Link at 200mbps dynamic bitrate works well and is smoother than anything I can get with VD. Really comes down to your settings as to which works best for you imho.
I haven’t updated my best Link and Air Link settings for while but these still work pretty well;
Also, I’ve recently found that since v72, dynamic bitrates (which aren’t available with VD) work very well;
I’m only putting this out there because I think it’s important for users to see alternative points of view. I have used VD for +5 years, starting with my Q1, and I have continued to use it of and on, esp. with some so-so meta uptates, lol! Since V72, I prefer Link and Air Link with all my PCVR apps, including msfs 2020. Cheers.
