Rain as advertised

Well, not sure what to tell ya, but I’m on Display Port with a 49" Super Ultra Wide Viotek SUW49DA at 5120x1440 and there’s nothing wrong with my rain, at least I don’t think so from the screenshots I posted. Again, a cable shouldn’t make any difference for visual differences. Audio yes definitely, but not differences in rain in a game.

Rain? Shmlain!

I know. It makes as much sense as saying your car won’t start because your wiper blades are worn out and you have to fix that by replacing the headlights. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t tried it for myself.

Agreed.
With the exception of a DP cable of the wrong standard.
Which, of Course, doesn’t just ruin the rain so much as the entire picture! Haha.

Regards.

No way! I guess I’ll have to go back to my HDMI cable.

Before I make any cable adjustments. Is the DP cable better than the HDMI cable?

That’s the best description I’ve seen yet. Everything I know suggests this shouldn’t make a difference, but it does, and it’s… just odd.

Oh, I would not recommend that!
A DP cable is capable of ‘better’ performance than HDMI.

I was merely referring to the different standards of DP cable.
A quick search on google will tell you all you need to know.
And if your screen hasn’t for instance, been momentarily blacking out, I am sure you’re good to go.

So far I haven’t had any issues with my DP cable just the issue where I don’t see any rain like the other folks have mentioned.

again, it makes 0 logical sense, but if you have issues seeing the rain, and have a spare HDMI cable lying around, just give it a go.

It’s stupid, weird, and shouldn’t make a difference, but hey, if it works for you, it works. If not, it’s easy to change the cable back again, so no worries.

That’s what I thought. I had an HDMI cable actually sitting on my desk. I figured it would take about 30 seconds to connect it and confirm that this solution was BS. I was slack jawed when it worked.

I think perhaps we are at cross purposes here.
Your DP cable WOULD NOT just affect the rain!
But a low quality DP cable can cause the whole picture to intermittently drop out.

The best DP cables are specified as having a higher bandwidth than HDMI, is all.

Stop trying to make logical sense of this, because there is no logical sense to this.

I’m an engineer, and I have a lot of trouble making sense of this, so I’ve stopped trying.
It apparently makes a difference for multiple users, without any logical explanation. A lot of us are stumped, because it shouldn’t make a difference, but apparently it is.

If this doesn’t influence you, be happy, and keep using your DP cable. But for some black magic voodoo reason it works for some. Don’t ask me to explain, because we just don’t know why.

Oh dear.
Look I don’t wish to argue with anyone here OK!

But of course there is logical sense to this!
Apart from human nature and affairs of the heart, there is logical sense to everything!

But if swopping your HDMI cable to DP [or visa versa for that matter] worked, great. We have a result.
And maybe that’s all that matters!

But unless the cable itself is faulty it isn’t the cable per se.
Perhaps just the action of changing the cable cleaned a dirty contact…
Perhaps it reset something somewhere.

Then again, maybe you’re just trying to get a rise out of me.
Though I choose to believe the former.

just… stop…

if it was a connection / dirt issue, there would be a general signal distortion effect, affecting everything, not just the rain effects (like you’ve said before).

The fact we don’t see logical sense in this is maybe not that there is no logical effect, it’s just that we don’t understand the effect yet.

I hope we’ll get some more information eventually, once this bug is solved (and yes, it’s 100% a bug, since the cable / interface used should make any difference at all).

Don’t worry, it’s not an argument. It’s just us being completely stumped by seeing something have an effect that by all logical sense shouldn’t have an effect at all.

I’m just going to abide by the old saying of "don’t look a gift horse in the mouth’. It makes no logical sense. But it works. I have my long missing train back.

By this logic, if a find the right mouse, the weather will start working right.

So should I leave my DP cable alone? Like I said everything works fine besides the rain.

If you have an HDMI cable, just try it. If it works, great! If it doesn’t, go back to your DP cable. Can’t hurt to try now can it?

Okay I’m going to try it and see.

YES, absolutely, YES!
