[RELEASE] Roman Design CYOW Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport

I have the FSimStudios CYVR and find it pretty decent.

I’m on Xbox so I can’t use that one and I have the fsdreamteams one but it’s kinda meh.

Yeah, you can tell from the marketing screenshots that the FSDT one isn’t great. I thought FSimStudios’ version had come to Xbox? If not, must be due at some point — all their other Canadian airports are available on console.

Depending on how the Vancouver Island helipad pack will be selling… I might do another helipad pack if it’s successful, or another airport…

Thanks. CYBL is a whole airport, so I didn’t touch it. There are more places to do at VI, but it’s so much work, and I don’t know how heli scenery would sell (still don’t know, biting my nails), and if it will even cover the time spent, that I had to limit the scope. If it sells well, I will do updates and add more places. One candidate is the Victoria Seaplane Terminal. I omitted it because it’s already done by Samscene3D Vancouver which many interested in the area already have. I can do a much better job at it, but because the vendor name is alphsbetically later than mine (S vs R) my sceneries can’t override theirs. So the order would need to be manually edited so they won’t conflict.

There are also a few more smaller hospitals with helipads, couple of single helipads, I can certainly do helipads on YBL and generally improve it visually a bit. But it really has to sell well for me to add more stuff.

@RomanDesign I was flying at YOW the other day and noticed that in part of the terminal the bridges that connect the jetway to the terminal are lower than the floor in the terminal in some parts and it looks a bit strange when you’re parked at them. I can take some screenshots if you want and you can see what I mean.

Sorry to hi9jaqck this thread, but did Roman Designs say recently that CYOW will get an update quite soon? I really want this airport in my sim but those default Asobo jetways really put me off — especially when everything else seems to be comprised of beautiful custom assets.

Sure, send me the screenshots and I’ll check what I can do in the MSFS2024 update. The terminal is tricky because it goes in steps with the terrain, and the terrain tools are unpredictable and extremely not preciwe, and terrain seems to randomly change for people.

I have a custom jetway model, but I have limited resources. There will be updates for MSFS2024 for all my sceneries, and I will use that opportunity to add custom jetways to CYOW.

The bridges are lower like this until gate 18 where it becomes normal height again.

Thanks for the report. I’ll put it in my list for the MS2024 update. It may be related to terrain changes that randomly happen in MSFS, I will look into it. The terminal kinda goes in steps with the lowering terrains in real life and I modelled it. That’s why I can’t just flatten the whole area. However, the terrain tools are unpredictable (to say the least) and MSFS updates often change how they become and interact with the underlying terrain. I will be working on custom jetways and other improvements with MSFS2024 functionality like animated passengers etc. So I will definitely try my best to make sure the gateway extensions align better.

Thanks and can’t wait for the new update!

Could you add the new LRT Station when you update it for 2024 because I’m pretty sure it’s opening in a few months.

@RomanDesign
Hello again, I was wondering if there is an email I can email you with about some features and some others fixes you might be able to do for the 2024 update to YOW. Thanks.

Sure. Go to my website (link in the top post) and contact me there. The email link is at the bottom of all pages.

Ok I’ll send you an email either today or tomorrow about some things I found that you could fix.

Just bought the CYOW Airport i love it!! Sadly i alos have the Jetway Bug i hope it will be fixed soon.

I’m reviewing the MSFS2024 updates I need to do, it’s a bit of a Wild West out there, SDK documentation is incomplete, people don’t know how to do many things, Blender exporter fails to export new textures etc. I identified several issues with the ground markings and textures - now that native MSFS2024 painted lines and ground markings are way clearer than they were, and even have depth to them (which was ignored in MSFS2020) I will need to figure out the right resolution and PBR workflow for ground markings and make mine in line with the native resolution and look (or better).

It looks like all objects are there in MSF20204 and in general my airports are compatible, but there are some issues that need to be addressed for a better experience and look. Plus whatever I have in my update list.

I take it you’ll be adding custom jetways to any prospective CYOW update? I’ve been wanting to buy it for so long as it looks superb otherwise.

Yes Yes fully understandable i have still both 2020 and 2024 if the new update is coming out it’s alos for 2020 right?

Yes, that’s my intention, to add custom jetways. I have them working in CYYJ. The only caveat is that it’s now possible to add passengers assembling at the gate and walking into a plane, but tho documentation is very vague, so I may hit problems trying to make it work with my custom jetway. Hopefully, I can manage that. I was hoping to use those passengers to populate some other areas at the airport, but it looks like they are limited to the gates and jetways.

I don’t know yet. It looks like once the project is transferred to MS2024 SDK it’s not reverse-compatible. If I can make it into a single workflow I could update both, but if it means twice the work I have to think hard about that. Maintaining 2 separate versions for 2 sims might not be feasible in terms of time and workload. If all goes well I will release 1 final update for MSFS2020 with things like new buildings and custom jetways and correcting any issues, and then maintain the MS2024 version only. We’ll see once the dust settles.
