[RELEASED: 3rd Aug 2023] Cessna 162 Skycatcher | Cockspur

The more High quality Ga planes in MSFS, the better.
The C162 is great new addition.

Is it just my copy, or is everyone else seeing weird raindrops on the side windows too?

Whenever I fly through rain, there are no drops on the side windows.
Just looks like weird wet lines moving towards the rear of the aircraft.
That cover the whole window…kinda looks like waves really.

If the engine is running that’s what it should look like. No raindrops, because all water is pushed to the back of the aircraft by the prop wash.

I have flown in enough light aircraft to know what raindrops look like on a window,
and this is definitely not it!

So obviously, you are telling me your rain on the side windows doesn’t look like this?

Looks completely different to the front windows!

And that is sitting still, with the prop running!

I will add fixing the sidewindow raindrops to the next update!

Nice! Thanks for your quick response there Sebdar7075!

Not sure if you can actually adjust it all, seems to be on the left and right sides
of the windshield too. (The same stretched drop issue)

Other than the window raindrops issue, loving the aircraft!

Yes, it can be adjusted!

You didn’t say that the water streaks were vertical and with the engine off. Yeah, that’s not right.

Took the Skycatcher out for one of my regular VFR cruise flights, from KSNA (Orange County / John Wayne) to L35 (Big Bear) up in the mountains.

Compared with cruise chart in the first manual copy I found (162PHUS-04)

Did a step climb with cruise tests at 6000 feet and 9500 feet, leaned based on peak RPM, using the Clear Skies preset which is STD pressure and I think ISA+10 temp? Set full fuel and payload to match book numbers of running at 1320 lbs.

At 6000 feet I maxed out at about 2650 RPM though book says I should be able to see 2750 RPM, and got about 94 KTAS where book number would be roughly 108 at 2750 or 98 at 2550.

At 9500 feet I maxed still around 2650 RPM, this time matching book, and got 92-93 KTAS. Book indicates I should come in closer to 101.

Fun to fly, but either I’m doing something wrong or it’s not quite hitting the numbers. Also noticed the nosewheel seems to not be modeled as free-castering, and the oil temp is spiking way high for me which either means I’m doing something wrong or something is modeled weird? (yes the throttle is firewalled but it’s at altitude where that’s less than max continuous power)

Haven’t tested with fairings, but that shouldn’t make 10 knots difference.

I agree that it needs a bit of fine tuning to hit the correct numbers because I also noticed that.

nosewheel is indeed not modeled as a free-castering which might have been done on purpose to make it better controllable for the overall user.

Oil temp is indeed spiking high, I noticed others reported it before in this thread but I’m sure they can fix this in an upcoming update.

Is it feasible to implement an engine page on the right-hand mfd? I’d love the option to have the engine instruments as the main focus of that screen so I can see them better.

The real aircraft is in fact free-castering, however we left it as is to make it more accessible for everyone.

Also, we have been given feedback from the other IRL 162 pilots as well and will be working on tuning that in the future as well as the oil temp issues.

We do not currently have a timeline for release but will be something we are actively working on. General news and updates are done faster on the Cockspur Discord

Waste of time and money at the moment. It’s a simple plane and it’s only been 60% implemented. Autopilot doesn’t work (buttons are there but do nothing). Oil temp goes through the roof in normal flying. Can’t change heading in the G300. Should have realised when they described the project as “The project was worked on as a way to clear the developer’s heads as they work on larger projects,” It’s freeware quality at best.

With the freeware L35 Big Bear scenery

I’m not so sure an autopilot is actually installed in the virtual cockpit… the real-world Cessna 162 POH indicates that the autopilot power switch and the cover for the unit would be to the left of the PFD, where I see a panel cover but not a power switch:

If you’re seeing virtual buttons for the autopilot, this may be an artifact of using an old version of the Working Title G3X mod, which is unfortunately no longer supported?

There is no autopilot in this version of the C162, I asked the developer if they will also be adding the version with Autopilot but they said No that they will not be adding that version.

Well, I’m out. I’ve been on the edge of this one, but sometimes I need to step away from the computer for a few so I don’t fly many planes that don’t have Otto. It’s one thing if the real plane doesn’t have one, but in cases like this where it’s an option in the real aircraft, it’s a huge quality-of-life addition.

Probably it would require patching the stock G3X implementation to get the interface working if they wanted to (afaik there’s no physical buttons for this autopilot unit, just the on-screen controls on the G300?), so it’s likely not trivial to do without relying on the end-of-life WT mod. ;_;

I checked the Cockspur website for a link to the Discord server and can’t find one. Is it public?
