[RELEASED] Aeroplane Heaven Cessna C-140

In a follow up to this, I tried again and I managed to start the plane no issues, as long I was in 2d mode. The minute I switched to VR, the plane wouldn’t start. Any other VR users had this experience?

I took a flight last night and after 40 minutes, the plane lost electrical power. I tried control E and this seemed to solve it. 10 mins later, having forgotten to switch fuel tanks, I had an engine failure and had to land in a field. I then found it was impossible to start plane again as it seemed to have no battery power. Starter switch just clicked.

Am I suffering a failure related to their being no alternator switch or what else might it be?

Not having much luck at the moment.

NZ sure is a nice spot to fly around! Tend to do all my flying in Aus and NZ. I remember that post. Was a great video to have going while I did some work. So cheers for making that.
I should definitley do a bigger tour of NZ than what I have done though! The C140 would be a sweet joy to take around the country.

The game has issues with electrical systems that combine battery and alternator switches into one. In particular it can be problematic if you have a Honeycomb Yoke or Saitek switch box with separate switches, the game seems to get confused.

It is not just the AH aircraft like the C140 that have these issues, for example the Carenado C170 also has issues with the alternator not charging and the battery going flat.

So actually, my failure was a loss of electrical power and not draining the Left tank as I first imagined. So I run a thrustmaster Airbus dual throttle and an Airbus Flight stick. I guess the dual throttle is somehow responsible for this issue?

Is there a solution?

You may well have had both a battery issue and then 10 minutes later ran out of feul..

  1. the fact that CTRL-E restored power suggests that the sim thought the alternator was off and CTRL_E reset that so it started charging again.
  2. you may well have simply run out of fuel just after. The red zone on the tanks marks the “unusable” fuel which cannot normally be accessed.

With regard to the Airbus Throttle and flight Stick. Do they have switches for Battery and Alternator ? if not, they are unlikely to be causing an issue.

I have also noticed some of the light switches in the cockpit don’t move now? Anyone else experiencing this?

Phew. I spent a good portion of today reading through this entire thread. I came here first to check if this was worth buying. I was on the lookout for a retro single-engine GA, and looking at some screenshots from Aeroplane Heaven I quickly fell in love with the retro art deco appearance of this one.

Before reading through the entire thread I decided to take the plunge and buy it. First flight around the Chicago area, I found the plane handled well, and is a joy to fly.

I picked up an amazing tip from this thread that I did not know about before: assign something on the controls for trim axis. I use the prop axis in my HOTAS Warthog throttle unit.

However, some 15-20 minutes into the first flight I lost electrical power. Meaning all external lights and radios go dead. So I spent a few hours reading through the rest of this thread looking for an answer.

Well, the answer it seems, is that this is an issue with all aircraft not having an alternator switch. Whilst reading through the rest of this thread, I’ve left the plane with the engines running at Renton, and sure enough, the electricity went out this time as well.

The “fix” seems to be to hit Ctrl-E as this strangely restores electrical power.

Another thing that bugged me was that I could not figure out how to get the bush wheels working. There’s nothing in the manual about this. On the AH product page there’s this bit of information:

“3 versions of the Cessna and if you know your way around configuration files your choice of which version to use per livery.”

Which didn’t help. But in this thread there’s a couple of posts that mention the click spot on the wheels, that you need to hit whilst being in the cockpit. A word on this in the manual would be decent.

Anyway, as I said she flies well, it’s the easiest taildragger I’ve landed so far in any sim, she looks stunning - BUT - here’s a few critical points (which are not deal-breakers):

  1. I needed to turn the engine sounds down to around 20% in the settings menu
  2. There’s some wonkiness going on with the handling of the primer and the starter switches
  3. There’s a basic autopilot which doesn’t make sense at all as there’s no display anywhere for HDG and ALT values. But you can turn the heading knob and the plane will go left or right. I somehow managed to get it to hold HDG and ALT, which is good enough. Didn’t buy this expecting a fancy autopilot and IFR capabilities.

Would I recommend this? Well, yes, if you’re in the market for a retro single-engine GA and can live with some of the quirks.

I love flying this plane but the poor engine sound mixing keeps me on the Carenado C170B when I want my retro fix. Even if you tweak the manual sound mix settings, it doesn’t respect headphone simulation or the door or window being open.

If they ever remix the sounds properly I’d happily buy it again if that’s what it took…

I think it’s sad that you can’t see at what alt the AP is set but otherwise I love it

The c170 has the same issue. I think it only rears it’s head if you have external devices like Saitek Switch gear or a Honeycomb Yoke that have separate alternator and battery switches as somehow these confuse the sim no end.

It’s because those switches are always sending a command to the sim to turn the battery/alternator on or off and this messes up some planes’ electrical systems. Unbind those commands in a separate profile for the affected planes and then you won’t have the problem.

Bit of a strange issue considering the plane doesn’t have an alternator switch. So I guess the method would be to search for alternator in the controller setup, and remove any binding (if there’s any).

Here is a mini review of the latest version. With yet another autopilot (that I do not use) I spoke with Aero Plane Heavan, and they responded with that they sort of learned their lesson on trying to implement modern avionics into an older aircraft. I just wish we had a traditional Nav/radio stack with a CDI. Otherwise, I love it.

ugh… whelp…if you get this from SimMarket you have to use their app now!

Looks like the avionics have been upgraded to a G1000 now. Strange how this plane gets so little attention.

It’s about as simple as aircraft get, not sure what all they really have left to update.

Any issues with the Cessna 140 and AAU1?

Random real life video …

Yep i watched that. It appeared in my feed out of nowhere a couple days ago. She must be trending.

Same 140 after the restoration.
