That’s an excellent point. So I swung the wind around until I had 17 knots (didn’t realise it was that high) straight on the nose. The Wilga towed me slowly to almost the far end of the runway then just stopped.
So then for the lols I ramped it up to 40 knots on the nose. Video incoming …
40 knots straight on the nose … or it might have been a bit stronger … btw I’m leaning towards the launch problem being the Wilga.
There is definitely something strange going on with that runway.
You should never have a towplane spawn in front of you like this:
Something is preventing the towplane from maintaining center on spawn. Thus the Wilga is probably having the same issues, but since it spawned center, it wants to veer to the left.
Have you tried a different location? I suspect bad airport that wasn’t marked “Glider Friendly”.
Make sure when you’re selecting a glider airfield that you are looking for “Glider Friendly” ICAOs that you can display using your World Map Filters.
Today, I have had a Cessna seaplane as tow plane.
It just turned around and went crashing at the side of the runway.
I just launched the cable and took off by myself with the electric motor.
Maybe is there something wrong with the tow planes.
But the AS 33 is now my favourite glider. In fact, I don’t need tow planes 
Empty your community folder, you more than likely have a scenery add-on made by a developer that is accidentally overwriting the base-game Airport Services folder and messing up your towing, winching and fuel servicing. The biggest indicator of a bad scenery installed is spawning on any runway and discovering there is no wing walker present.
After you empty your community folder and verify towing works again, re-introduce add-ons one by one until you find the one that broke it. Once you find that, please relay it here on the forums so we can contact that developer and tell them to stop overwriting base game assets and breaking Airport Services, especially because they are critical for gliding.
This is unfortunately common in the Scenery Development scene and it’s starting to become a massive problem. They are improperly assigning their “Airport Services” and writing directly to the base-game/region.

Now I’m not sure if //42’s Simstaller tool will help you find these Airport Service conflictions, something we can clarify with their team (@OMGEDSON) but it may be possible to easily find these broken sceneries with Simstaller, as it has base-game conflict detection:

The wing runner is always present and helping. It’s just that the tow plane spawned as a seaplane…not every time. And when it’s a sea plane, it can’t take off. When I have the normal Cessna, there is no problem.

I don’t have any scenery addons. I tried loading in at a glider friendly airport with the Wilga, we had a pleasant trundle at 20 knots to the far end of the runway.
I’ll try saying no launch then using the winch from the tablet.
I had a blast yesterday in the AS 33 on the big island of Hawaii. Got a tow out of Hilo and then gradually worked my way up Mauna Kea slope soaring up the north face with the air currents. As I got higher the wind got stronger, the terrain got steeper, and the ascent went from 100-200 fpm to pegging the gauges much of the time. Took a while but eventually overflew the observatory. Was going to try to coast to Maui but clouds were rolling in and it was getting late so popped out spoilers to make it through a hole and down into Kona.
Slope soaring is a blast with this thing and FS2024 is feeling like a fun platform for glider guiding and trying to find lift.

I made a couple of flights with it, and while everybody is quite enthusiastic about this release i have unfortunate some comments on this newly released glider.
First of all, i want to say that i respected Got friends for what they did and what they stood for.
Also their previous released products like the discus for example I enjoyed a lot.
But this AS33…
Sorry but what were they thinking???
Did they even consulted the whole team before releasing?
I dont even know where to start.
But let me tell you one thing, if you produce an awesome product like this, please include a disclaimer next time, so that i can warn my wife that i will spent way to many hours enjoying this fantastic glider!!!

Lol at first I was like what are you talking about. I agree with you. It is phenomenal. Really feels like you are soaring through the air. I was flying along in ridge lift last night, enjoying a new experience in the sim.

Iam also greatfull for the video’s SSC is posting lately. Its a great way to learn a bit more about gliders for the newbies and make them enthusiast for this way of flying.
Also the video about thermal and weather setup is something i found very usefull, even after all those hours I spent soaring in the sim.
And if you or anybody else have any pro-tips to justify the sim-time for the lady of the house, please feel welcome to share lol.

We cannot thank Gotfriends enough for keeping gliding with the Discus and AS-33 so high.
I hope their influence is now so strong that the weather physics in real weather will improve considerably in the near future.
