[RELEASED] EA-7 Edgley Optica | Got Friends

Is it possible to Set to Animals off and for that state to be kept between restarts of MSFS?

I wasn’t planning on buying this since I already had the other payware Optica, but then you had to announce that this one has a cat. You monster. Instant buy.

It is indeed a big improvement over that other Optica. The ca-… I mean the autopilot alone is worth the price of admission here.

Yes, just edit the flight_model.cfg to permanently remove the ‘companions’ weight. That’s what I’ve done and the little furballs don’t show up by default.

Details in this thread -

Removing Companions by Default on MSFS startup:

Please find your “flight_model.cfg” file in the aircrafts community folder.

Filepath: gotfriends-optica/SimObjects/Airplanes/gotfriends-optica/flight_model.cfg

Right Click → Open with Notepad, find this line, and only change the “170” to “0”. Go to File → Save, and Start MSFS. Now, your default weight loadout will be 0 lbs for a passenger instead of 170 lbs until you either change it back or update this aircraft in the future.

Speaking of the future, we will look at better alternatives and/or a way to save your last known companion configuration. However, for now, this is the best semi-permanent solution we have to save your weight loadout.

It’s happening! In-Game Marketplace release incoming! Hopefully soon you’ll be able to enjoy the Optica on either your desk or couch!

If you’re a PC player, don’t forget you can currently purchase it for 50% off ($10 USD) on Flightsim.to as an exclusive offer to the community! Offer ends Sunday, the 20th! Don’t miss out on a great deal!

For now, please enjoy our new Official Trailer by Maple!

Will there be a 50% off sale on marketplace too?

Just for transparency, our 50% off launch sale is an exclusive to Flightsim.to as a massive thank you to the supporters who initially supported the Freeware EA-7 Edgley Optica and helped grow the site’s community.

With the sale on the orbx and the not sale of yours on the marketplace that means yours is likely to be 4 times the price. I’d prefer yours but there are a lot of new things dropping soon I have to save for.

Don’t worry, we will have sales in the future for sure. Our Edgley will always be here for you, no need to rush to get a bunch of fantastic aircraft all at once… I would get the ones you want, enjoy them for a bit, have some fun and by then we might be on another sale!

I will be buying Optica, but I do wonder if the freeware version is being abandoned, like the Goose freeware is (which again I plan to purchase)?

If so, I think you should consider a freemium model. Free continually improved version with no bells and whistles to try out and a paid version with all the extras. Body and flight modelling improvements, AP would be clear upgrades.

As we are moving to full marketplace support, we won’t be able to maintain multiple versions with different sets of features. Each Sim Update usually requires a heavy onset of attention to our entire add-on library. However, don’t lose hope. We are currently testing this “freemium” model with the Discus-2c (Freeware) and Discus-2c Premium (Payware Upgrade) in the future. If it is successful enough to help us maintain multiple versions within a variety of Sim Updates, we may consider doing this for other payware projects. The biggest hurdle is the time required to repair things after major updates.

For now, the EA-7 Edgley Optica is not planned to be supported in a freeware state at any capacity. Also we feel like delivering a lesser freeware aircraft would not shine proper light on the payware alternative. It would more than likely not live up to the standards our team wants to deliver.

Absolutely love this thing. It’s a joy to fly in VR.

1kg of number 2’s costs less than 1kg of gold. That doesn’t mean I’d want to save money and walk about with faeces around my neck.

Love flying this in VR too! I have one feature request though: would it be possible to support VR cockpit zoom/focus? It doesn’t seem to be implemented right now. Instruments are mostly readable, but the using the GPS is impossible for me (without leaning in an uncomfortable amount

that would be helpful yes. VR cockpit focus would be nice for the GPS (even if I hardly tend to use it  )

VR Focus is indeed happening this next update

We are currently working on the release week Update and should have it to all our supporters by or before the 20th.

This next update will remove the “Swap System Switch.” By running multiple HTML navigation aids in the cockpit, we were running into GPS, Autopilot, Memory Leaks, and FPS Issues. This next update will separate the GTN750 and GNS530 into two separate Sub-Models. Yes, you heard that right; we have replaced the GNS430 with the GNS530. Now, at the aircraft selection screen, you will see EA-7 Edgley Optica (GNS530/330) and EA-7 Edgley Optica (GTN750/WTT). By separating the navigation systems, you’ll find that most autopilot issues and GPS issues experienced in Version 1.0.0 are eliminated. Also, this gives FULL WTT support to the GTN750 without the need to install their additional package. Working Title Technology (WTT) brings you holds, vectors to final, visual approaches, missed approaches, and real-life legs in the flight plan.

Update 1.0.1. (Release Week Update) (In Progress):

  • Replace GNS430 with GNS530
  • Separate GTN and GNS into Sub-Models
  • Snow Skis Give Proper Snow Landing Physics
  • Add VR Zoom Compatibility
  • Fix Texture Misspelling Errors
  • Fix Altimeter Gauge Textures
  • Fix Turn Coordinator Flashing Tube Issue
  • Fix VOR Emmisives (Night)
  • PDF Misinformation Fix
  • Flap Indicator Animation Speed Up
  • Cat Animation Slightly Adjusted
  • Added Lower Belt to Seatbelt Assembly
  • Fixed EGT, Oil Temp, Cylinder Temp and Oil Pressure Gauges
  • Removed Swap Systems Knob
  • Added Got Friends Logo
  • Fixed Various Autopilot Issues including Vertical Speed
  • Add Companion Switch Save State to load last used Companion Selection
  • Fix Flickering Glass on Exterior View

For Update 1.0.2. We are investigating the following:

  • Add more/better Custom Sounds (Could be 1.0.3)
  • Add Modern Prop Physics
  • Add Visible 3rd Seat Passenger (Companion Replacement)
  • Adjust Weight and Balance Slightly
  • Add Visible Co-Pilot Model
  • Investigating GTNXi Support
  • Adjust Cat Location to alleviate Tail Clipping

Thanks for the support everyone! This is by far Got Friends’ most successful launch to date! I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful aircraft. Don’t forget the 50% Off sale will expire on the 20th.

For all of the above - thank you!

The autopilot errors are perhaps the biggest issue for me followed by the door/window sounds but am happy to wait for those.
