Does anyone know the keybind for the guns please?
I beat ya!

LOL, yeah. I saw right as my reply rendered. But I got fancy with the outline drawn in Paint and true artistry takes time, man. ![]()
hahah too right! I just didn’t take it seriously enough to go all designery ![]()
What is freaky is our first sentence is exactly the same, down to the colon!
I can not see the pilot in the external view (I know that exit a funtion in the seat to show/hidde it, but don’t work for me)
Multiplayer animations, wingfold, smoke etc, broken by SU14, appear to be fixed in SU15 Beta. SU15 releases Mar 12th I believe…
Back to landing and trim. I’m also having some issues. Coming in closer to 90-100 knots helps (as I posted above) but here are my observations.
Any additional insights or advice is welcome!
I LOVE the Wildcat! It flies really well and has some fantastic features. I’m on Xbox Series X and (naturally) using the Marketplace version of the plane.
The first issue I’m noticing is that with the flaps down, I can’t fly fast enough for them to come up on their own. The WWII pilots’ handbook states that the flaps should come up to about 10 degrees angle of droop at 130 knots. I need to test this more, but I’m pretty sure the flaps are staying full down (43 degrees of droop) as I accelerate, and I can’t get fast enough for the flaps to raise. I will test this further, however.
The second issue I have tested extensively. With full flaps, there is a very strong nose down movement. On final, at approach speeds from 80 to 90 knots, I need full nose up trim and still have to have the stick pretty much fully back. My theory is that the trim is working correctly, but the flaps are acting more like spoilers than an extended lifting surface.
The problem is twofold: (1) I am pretty sure we should be able to trim elevation on final to be nearly neutral stick so a pilot can pull back on a go around; and (2) on an Xbox controller, with full back stick, any sideways movement of the stick to make adjustments toward the centerline, actually rolls the stick up a bit and puts my nose down – which I really don’t want to do, hence having full back stick in the first place.
Neither issue is a game breaker! I can still land pretty well. But, better trim and or flap response would be great!
The system for vacuum flaps and retracting with greater airspeed doesn’t seem to be modelled for some reason, although there are notes about it in the flight model config. They will extend fully at any given airspeed.
The Wildcat has split flaps, which do act more like spoilers than other types of flaps. After a certain degree of deflection, they end up producing proportionally more drag vs. lift than normal or slotted flaps. I think the idea behind their use was to allow for steeper approaches (better visibility).
However, the effect is too great as modelled in this addon. Due to the pitch tendencies you mentioned, it seems to require more trim than is available to maintain a comfortable attitude for the glide. The flaps move the center of pressure aft on the wings, which leads to a pitch down tendency. However, according to the same handbook you mentioned, it appears you should be able to hold it at around the three-point attitude on short final until touchdown without a pronounced flare. That’s somewhat difficult to do with this model. These Grummans were known for their ability to plop down on three wheels with ease. The only notable difficulties landing with the Wildcat pertain to its narrow landing gear.
In the config, center of pressure is moved aft a full three feet with full deflection of flaps. I think that might be too much, and that could be part of the issue we are experiencing.
Some of it may be FM/MSFS limitations. I find you can get the flaps to auto-retract if you are near the speed you deployed them. But since it takes so long for them to deploy and adds so much more drag once they are down the plane is fully in ‘landing mode’ which keeps you under 130kt. As soon as the flaps are a few seconds into deployment, I just roll the trim wheel back to 30% out of habit, and settle on getting it into a landing configuration/glide slope. It pretty much gets into throttle management mode. As long as you don’t dork it at the final threshold it’s pretty honest to get it down. And you really need to configure proper seating/sight angles as it’s really hard to judge if your view is not sorted out.
The default is a balance of filling the screen with enough gauges for an overall ‘cockpit’ view, and will be monitor-size limited, but like EVERY aircraft in this sim is not 100% ideal for hand flying minutiae. It’s not remotely bad like a Carenado default that is often 18" ahead of the seat back, head on the ceiling, and looking 15 degrees downward. A custom proper head back-chin up looking straight custom camera helps a lot, which gives up a lot of the panel(as it often does). Makes it a lot easier to spot judge the edge of the carrier and get the hook where it needs to be. Gunsight is ■■■■ handy too.
Are you using a joystick or Xbox controller?
I’m using a controller, and part of the issue is that with the stick mostly back, any roll (left or right stick) pushes the nose down due to the geometry of the circle enclosing the stick and the really short length of the stick.
With other planes in the sim, I can trim to the attitude I need with the controller stick neutral or only a little back – that way rolling right or left a little to stay on the centerline doesn’t push my nose down.
I use the TB flightstick with the throttle quad from the TB yoke and TB pedals. So I have the trim wheel from the yoke and all the levers.
Will there ever be any navigation equipment for the XBOX version of the Wildcat? the current GPRS is PC only, maybe even a VOR/DME radio? currently we can only nav VFR
has anyone else noticed a huge performance drop since the update? i haven’t flown this for a while and its dropped fps by about 15 and feels very stuttery
same here - but I hadn’t flown it since the last sim update so I don’t know which is responsible for the degradation.
Since the last sim update I see more performance problems - especially around destination airports and - this is new - stutters with a huge drop in FPS when switching between internal and external views. Flying along at 45-50, switch from cockpit view to external - FPS drop to 18-20 then slowly rise to 45-50 and stabilize - then switch back to cockpit and the same thing happens, no matter the aircraft.
Not having flown the sim much lately it is hard to tell whether the aircraft - or these MSFS updates are to blame.
I brought this up when it released and someone, maybe a dev, responded saying it had something to do with the LOD switching that it was doing. One update and however many months later it hasn’t changed.
good to know it wasn’t just me - I could find nothing online or in this forum about it.
No matter how I worded the question the only results were the generic ‘how to improve FPS in MSFS’ etc… That’s not the problem.
Thanks for the reply to my post.
I feel the same with a bunch of aircraft, as if there is some kind of system not loading correctly. Sounds like SU15 helps for some in the beta.
