My second flight, and the first time I used the GPU. I ejected the cable somewhere over the Arizona desert. Hope it didn’t kill a roadrunner. Probably nailed Wile E. Coyote, though.
No pic. GeForce has a nasty habit of saving low-quality PNG’s on any given day, when the day before it was saving JXR files that I was converting to beautiful JPG pics.
I don’t know why it does it, but I know why I forgot to disconnect the cable. Must remember to add that to the checklist: “After engine start, disconnect GPU.”
ETA: Just finished a smooth 334 nm flight at FL200 from KSEZ (Sedona) to KLAX (Los Angeles.) Cruise power was set to 80%, and I burned 80 gals. of Jet-A getting there.
I was getting 75 FPS in cruise, and the expected 45 FPS on approach. Dropped to 35 FPS at touchdown, but very smooth. No stutters until taxiing close to the terminal. I get that (like most everyone else) at KLAX. I’m happy.
It was kind of funny as I went through my shutdown checklist. My addon ‘REX Accuseason’ is set to automatically download terrain updates at 9:00 am. Sure enough, when it finished and I clicked OK, the sim crashed. I won’t fly without REX, but I’m darn sure going pay attention to flight times.
A couple of notes. It took me a long time, and a big circling approach descent to get from FL150 down to a 4,000 ft. glide path. I set the power level down to 20%, and had to be really patient, as the plane wanted to keep its speed up. I had no problem with the landing. About 1/4 mile from the threshold my gear down airspeed was 115 kts., and I was able to slow down easily to 85 kts. with full flaps, keeping some down elevater to level the plane. I pulled the flaps up to 10% as I crossed the threshold, flared slightly, and ‘smoothly’ (a relative term ) touched the runway.
I’m getting a little better at landings, and I really like the way this plane handles.
My Bonanza has been my ‘go-to’ plane, but I think it’s been replaced. Not retired, to be sure…but I’ll be spending a lot of time in this awesome FSR500.
Just for the record… 5800X3D, 3090 Ti, 64GB DDR4/3600 CAS14.
