Released: MD-80

No

EFB has a caculator to get the flaps
The normal is 3-7

First I also worry about the texture and sounds

And now I get it and enjoy nearly 20 hours flight

MD80 is an amazing girl

If you like study-level aircraft, you should not miss it. MD 80 is not 737 or 320

You have to turn on the aux hydraulic pump and transfer PTU to retract the aft stairs without engines running.

This thing is just so rewarding. I will be flying this A LOT. It’s to the point where I am not gonna get the PMDG bird until later this week. I need this one to sink in first. Currently in-flight recording a new video on getting it going and landing for you guys. Learn from my mistakes.

This. One of my favorite planes of all time IRL and it’s such great fun so far. I’m barely squeaking by and making all sorts of mistakes but I’ve had a couple good flights in a row and I’m starting to get the hang of it finally I think. Worth every penny IMO.

My only real gripe with it is the little sidecar app and the EFB don’t really seem to be communicating and gathering data from SimBrief as I would expect for certain things and it’s really unclear what I’m supposed to use one for versus the other, since they seem to be duplicating lots of functions, yet the data isn’t always synced up. And I also wish there was a way to load the current weather into the EFB.

The external Load Manager really only needs to be used once to configure the options you want. You never need to touch it again unless you want to change them. Everything you need is in the EFB. The difference is that SimBrief files need to be in the Routes directory of the AIRCRAFT (in the Community folder) if you are using the EFB. For the external Load Manager (if you want to use that for some reason), they need to be under Documents/Maddog/Routes folder.

Is there a way to use the airbus throttle quadrant to select the flaps?

Anyone using the Maddog X with the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle ?

Because i have some issues and looking for help.

Mostly i load my planes to the Runway where i start from
and this always went fine so i am ready for start.
This worked with my old Throttle but now i get yellow error messages in the upper overhead panel
where 2 says something off ( not on PC now so i can’t say exaktly what ) and it isnt off from the state of the switches.

To say i got this Throttle yesterday..

So the plane set down one engine where N1 says 0
the other stays on and at outside i hear no engine sound
so total stupid to me, some tipps ( if can given ) would be great because i just found no way to get this issue in my hand..

cheers

I put together a video of my second flight with the MD-82 as well as my opinion about the product…
This shows everything from cold and dark start to loading and takeoff down to landing (including a missed approach) into a highly challenging airport in Quito, Ecuador.

Just to verify, have yo set the Dial-A-Flap indicator on the right side of the pedestal panel to 2.5 degrees? 2.5 is not a standard flap setting, so it needs to be set in the dial-a-flap window. If you don’t do that, it will set flaps 11 as the 2nd flap position, I believe. Think of the dial-a-flap indicator as a moving flap detent. It can be the second flap position, the 3rd, or even the 4th position depending on what you have the knob set to. The flap wheel on the left side of the quadrant is only for calculating correct trim setting in conjunction with the adjacent CG selector.

Edit: I see you now did this in video! Enjoy!

Yes, that was one of the things I have learned on the first flight - the dial setting is really any number that is BEFORE 11. So BECAUSE I have flaps mapped to a joystick button, one click gets you slats, next one gets you whatever you dialed in, and the third gets you 11. Late last night I did another flight and the optimal setting was 15, so that was actually 4th position down!

Wait until you get a 17 on the optimum flaps. Then it will still be 4th setting! Ha

Hi, I was finally able to assign the flaps using Z axis.

what did you do for the settings? iss it the right stick of the TCA Quadrant?

Yes, the right side of the stick. I had to specify the Z axis as it was not being recognized automatically. Hope that helps.

Ic, so you still set that up in msfs key binding? Can you calibrate the detents to fit the ones in the MD80?

Have to declare that I didn’t buy this yet due to price atm, but it’s interesting contender between pmdg and coming Fenix as my first study level addon

Anybody have any suggestions regarding clicking on knobs and switches?

Most are linked to the mouse wheel and it’s crazy. I can’t easily select things. With and without mouse acceleration. I would love a left and right click function if it could be done.

You can press the knobs to get acceleration

I’d suggest that it’s time to learn how to power on from cold and dark and taxi to the runway doing the configurations yourself. The MD-82 deserves a proper startup and probably needs one to get configured appropriately for departure.

THIS. 100%. In birds like the MD-82, anything PMDG, FSLabs, Majestic, any of those… I could never imagine NOT starting it from cold and dark. It would seriously disrupt my thinking in terms of what has or hasn’t been done. Too many variables to guess - how are the fuel tanks configured? What about bleed air? What about pressurization? Who configured flaps and how? And based on what numbers?

These are the EXACT same reasons I can’t take these Asobo ā€œLanding Challengesā€ā€¦ They stick you in a commercial jet about 1 minute before you are supposed to land it - no flight plan in FMC, nothing on ND. Sometimes flaps are up and sometimes they are down. Same with gear. Are spoilers armed? Who knows… then they expect you to land this thing that you have had ZERO time to configure or at least get some sort of orientation in it and then they have the audacity to ā€œrateā€ you on your landing? LOL.
