[RELEASED] U.S. Golden Age of Air Travel - 1958 navaids

I think SIDs and STARs were the thing of 1960s rather than 1950s. Though approach charts existed well before that, of course.

Have a look here: jwhshd | Flickr

This user’s album contains thousands :grimacing: of vintage aviation pictures and charts. There are many approach charts from the end of 1950s and many from 1960 and later, but be careful with the post 1960s ones as they may be using navaids that had not existed in 1958.

Anyway… the trick is to search this album for a name of the airport of your interest, e.g. Detroit, San Francisco, Portland… you name it. Searching for ICAO codes will not work.

Just make sure you search the “photostream” using the magnifying glass icon located here:

These are results for “Tulsa”, for instance:

I took a break from this scenery before working on Alaskan navaids.

Then I started two other projects :grimacing: and partially forgot the workflow I created for GAAT 1958

Though now I am back on speed and already testing the vintage navaids in Alaska. These are few shots from testing some Low-range Radio Beacons:

All works as intended so it should not take too long before releasing an update adding Alaska to the mix :+1:

I removed the GAAT folder from my Community folder but I still have the 1958 navaids and not modern ones. What are my options?

The GAAT is drag an drop so once the folder is removed from your Community folder there is nothing else to do to restore the default navaids.

Just to check:

  • Are you talking about sim or LittlrNavMap?
  • Do you remove all folders from your Community folder before you update the sim?
  • Have you tried with no mod in your Community folder?
  • Are you using Navigraph?

I may have left the GAAT folder in Community during an update. I don’t clear out Community after every session. Maybe I should?

I don’t use Little Nav Map or Navigraph.

It is a good idea to clear it before every update of the sim.

Anyway… I am away from my PC but what might help is to re-download the fs-base-nav folder in the Packages/Official folder. Just backup and delete it. The sim will re-download it when launched afterwards. This way, the default nav data should be restored by the hard way. I did that a couple of times when experimenting with custom nav data.

Just like I used to always say to my kids… “10 more minutes”…

Kids have no concept of time anyway… then again… Do any of us?

To be sure, you do have to restart the sim any time you make a change to your Community folder (or any change to the sim for that matter when installing anything new).

The sim is supposed to recognize and auto update the VFS, but, it doesn’t work, never has.

Thank you so much for this amazing work, and for that link to that guys photos of all the vintage airports and planes… amazing. I love that Piaggio P149… I wanted to buy a real one so bad… may still some day.
