[RELEASED] Wilga 35/80 Series | Got Friends

If you have the PMS50 GTN750 add-on, there’s an avionics package on flightsim.to that will install a customized GTN650 in the Wilga:

I am in VR and use an in-sim tablet add-on with Little Navmap on it. It’s been working great. I use that for map guidance with a steam gauge version that has VOR & NDB radios that I go by sometimes. It’s been fun this way.

Hey guys! With a great coincidence my VR googles arrived just as Wilga did. So nowadays most of my flying is done with Wilga and for the first time I’m not having littlenavmap on second monitor. So I can’t monitor fuel consumption correlated with mixture. Anyhow… I have a question about mixture. As I understand the only method to determine the correct mixture is to monitor RPM. My issue is that rpm drop happens pretty much on the same spot no matter the altitude. And that the mixture is never too rich. Is this a normal behavior for this plane?

I quite see your point and I very much understand your frustration! Unfortunately you would not have the Wilga today either way. There are only three scenarios:

  • A developer completes development, sends it in to the Marketplace and publishes it simultaneously on some other platform. That’s what we have today. In this case the product will become available on the Marketplace when development is completed plus however many weeks Asobo/Microsoft needs to publish the item.

  • Or a developer completes development, sends it in to the Marketplace, but waits with publishing on other platforms until the article is published in the Marketplace. In this case the product will become available on the Marketplace when development is completed plus however many weeks Asobo/Microsoft needs to publish the item.

  • Or lastly, a developer completes development, sends it to the Marketplace, and chooses not to publish the product elsewhere. In this case the product will become available on the Marketplace when development is completed plus however many weeks Asobo/Microsoft needs to publish the item.

So: I fully understand that you are disappointed. Definitely! But from a rational point of view, no delay has been caused to you because of their decision.

The Wilga is quickly becoming one of my absolute favourite planes in this sim. I’m doing daily trips of at least one to two hours in her. So atmospheric and relaxing to fly this baby.

I encountered a little thing that I assume might be a bug and wanted to check if any of you has had the same. On the dash there’s a little plaque with the plane’s tail number on. For me this number is visible during the beginning of the flight, but it is suddenly gone later - there’s just a black plaque with no text on at all. So far I’ve never caught it when it happened so I can’t say how late into a flight this happens or if I happened to do something in particular to make it disappear. Just thought I’d check with you first to see if I can narrow it down before taking it up with the Got Friends team.

Yesterday just prior to landing my engine died. It wasn’t too cold out and I think I kept an eye on oil and cylinder head temperature. But I did have the fuel pump running. Could that have been the culprit? Another possible option would be fuel (I shouldn’t have run out yet at the time, but I was running relatively low and maybe it got starved due to the down angle?) Luckily I got her down on the ground, albeit a bit roughly.

Any ideas?

It’s great to have a plane that will actually behave in this way and do things that. Really forces you to be a bit more attentive than typical within a sim.

There seem to be three main causes of engine failure on the Wilga. As you mentioned, engine, temperature’s getting too hot, will cause the thing to stutter and die. Second is, of course your mixture being too lean at landing. Finally, you may need to apply some carb heat for a minute or so prior to final. If you did all of the above, I’m not really sure what the problem is. Running out of fuel is certainly possible as it drinks gas at a prodigious rate.

Thanks! In theory I did all of that but it is entirely possible I messed some of it up. Will keep an eye on it!

That’s a weird one. Using 3rd party livery?

Do you happen to know if GF have modelled that some of the fuel may not be accessible at different bank or dive angles? I should have had just enough fuel, but combined with the nose-down attitude maybe it was just enough to starve the engine?

No, not on the Wilga. We’ll see how it goes the next few flights - maybe I can detect a pattern.

Initially I thought my VR might be at fault, but this flight I spent all of my time in VR as opposed to switching occasionally as I often do. And the plaque was still black when I finally switched back to pancake vision.

No idea but that would be a neat party trick on their part.

Not just Xbox … I’m on PC so could have bought the Wilga long ago but I am happy to support the marketplace and Microsoft in thanks for bringing us this wonderful sim.

I respect your conviction. I don’t know if I’d be able to wait ha!

I made it up there in the 80! This was the mountain on the main island (south east). Was a slow climb going around the face of the mountain like a reverse helter-skelter, and I had some luck with thermals but she was still wanting to go up when I reached the summit!

That would be Mauna Kea.

From sea level to 14,000 feet!

In the winters, locals will drive up, fill their truck beds with snow and drive back down so kids can have snowball fights.

 hope they take a freezer box with them or it’ll all melt before they get down. It’s a faster return journey in the Wilga! Going down was pretty easy (and quite thrilling  )

Can’t believe another week has gone by without this hitting Marketplace. I hope there’s been some revision/testing/feedback happening and they’re not just on a six-plus-week SLA at this point.

Just when you thought Marketplace was getting less frustrating…

It got backlogged after being shut down for a few weeks right as Christmas season was starting.

It SUCKS, but it is I am sure, part of the reason why Got Friends released it themselves on PC, just to get some holiday sales and word of mouth generated.
