I finally got to do a short flight and all i can say is wow. The attention to detail for every facet of this plane from visuals to systems to sounds to the overall experience is rarely seen in addons. And all for 20 bucks. Insane.
Where are the reviews of this plane on Youtube? Normally when a new plane gets released my feed gets filled with reviews from the big flightsim guys. Maybe they’re still struggling to get the engines started lol.
MSFS crowd: “We really, really want a Study Level aircraft.”
Wing42 team: “Hold my beer.”
As a former General Manager I know used to say, “Careful what you ask for.”
I think this really shows that rather few people fly planes “by the book”. This is even visible by certain youtubers who make a “tutotial” on for example a Turboprop and on takeoff they firewall the thrustlevers and you see the needles go well past the limits stated in the checklist /PoH. And also don’t really bother about flap speeds or shock cooling etc.
Tbh, this is what those Local Legends planes should have been closer too. A real shame they aren’t
i see quite a few vids on it , people flying it, start tutorial.
i say maybe these gamer channels having issues with it?
Really trying hard to find reviews of the airplane. All I can find are preview videos and a couple of tutorials.
AvAngel has apparently filmed hers, she posted a screenshot of her “landing” on discord. Hopefully it won’t be long before she has puts it up.
I’d rather wait for “Into The Blue”.
Managed another long flight. Over 2 hours. Very rewarding but man tiring! Now on my next leg of the Amelia Earhart 1937 route
Having flown her over 500nm now, with the last two trips being a roughly 140 and 190nm ones. Some negative observations are.
- Every now and then there is a stutter
- Even in Australia with warm weather the (right type) oil just hardly heats up in cruise and climb setting even with the coolers fully closed.
- Statesaving has obvious issues with switches not indicating properly.
- Cylinder temps seem impossible to get up more then 1-2 stripes when using correct engine settings.
- The plane feels perhaps too fast and powerfull when loaded. Also see pt.6
- 29"Map 2,000rpm cruise seems impossible at least below 6500ft. The props start to windmill and goes above 2100rpm and will not come down, even with the rpm lever set to it’s minimal setting.
- Above 150ias the plane attains quite the nose down attitude, not entirely sure if this is correct, peraps a bit too exaggerated.
- A bonus one and one i knew before buying. But imo the lack of at least a portable /hidden modern radio / tiny nav unit (like on the Spitfire) really holds the plane back in the long haul once the time bubble wears off and you just want to fly an old plane safely in a modern airspace.
Some Positive points.
- Obv the price.
- The trim is great. Not overly sensitive so it is very easy to trim the plane for level flight
- The sounds, while there are a few bugs, overall the sound is very good and a lot better then what i heard on some YT vids.
- The simulated motion. Big fan of the wobbly needles and levers. While the latter perhaps wobble a bit overly much, i really hope mode devs add a more realistic needle effect to their models. This also goes for the speed. Most planes show a much too static/stable speed reading.
- Slow flight. The plane really gives a good feedback on when she is getting too slow, gets mushy and she starts to rattle.
- Performance. Outside of the occasional stutter she seems very framarate friendly, even with all the lights turned on.
- Flight model in general feels quite good despite bing a little powerfull. Bank a little and the nose drops as one would expect. She really conveys that thick wing feeling quite well.
- Clipboard(Not so electronic flightbag). Really like the clipboard and how it interracts. And thoselittle name carts.
- Ground equipment. Like, stuff you don’t spend much time around but adds so much feel and immersion. Also noticed how the baggage transfers from the cart into the hold.
Yeah I’m getting this as well. It’s barely noticeable for me but when it happens all the instruments will jump around a bit before settling down again.
Yep. Creates a massive smokeplume too as all teh exhaust accumulates for a little while, looks like the engines had a major missfire.
I can seriously hope the dev addresses the state saving thing, or maybe just include an option on the board for Cold & Dark.
I find it hard to keep the rpm at 2,000 as well by following the cruise checklist above 6-8k ft. Only way to bring it down is by going below the white arc on the MP.
With updates, the potential of this being hands down the untouchable jewel of the sim is huge. Very looking forward to how the updates come along.
negative points 1-4 I have experienced.
With regards 6, I’ve found my best engine management is around 27-28mp (think that’s just at the white arc) and I can maintain around 1900rpm. All below 7000’ SO far no engine out with this config.
Aye. Also resorted to cruising around 27"/2000
Does this work OK for you? With FSUIPC I get error messages after a while when writing to the ENG THROTTLE lvars…
After every flight before I close the sim, I turn everything off on the 247D, so that when I start up again, it is essentially cold and dark. I think state is then saved correctly. But I haven’t done rigorous testing.
It’s what I do and have had no issues on next flight.
