Another month goes by with no word from Wing42 on what’s going on, if anything, about fixing some of the small idiosyncrasies in this airplane. All I really want is the right engine crank sound and see through nose cargo compartment bugs fixed.
Been flying this since release and, yeah, it has a few quirks. But there’s an assumption by some prolific posters that if a plane isn’t updated periodically it’s somehow broken.
In this case, the plane is bargain-priced for the level of detail it includes, and you just have to ignore a few quirks to enjoy it. None of them are major or sim-breaking, and if you’re considering purchasing it, there’s definitely a lot of exciting flying to be had here.
If you demand absolute perfection, yeah, there are a few minor things that I’d love to see Otmar reappear to fix, so you’ll have stuff to complain about. Also, I would like to subscribe to your newsletter about all of the absolutely perfect products you’ve purchased.
Agreed, the quirks are all minor and mainly to do with features that have no right to be on a $20 aircraft in the first place. Sort of like buying a bargain priced pickup truck, which normally would have no A/C or Stereo, and complaining that the Dolby Surround Sound in the stereo occasionally plays up.
I’m not sure why you guys defend this. This plane was supposed to receive a quick bug fix update. After the plane released, Otmar posted here 5 days later (April 6th 2022) where he acknowledged certain issues and pledged to fix them. That post is below.
As for the price, this was never supposed to be a subpar product at a bargain price. It was sold as a study-level product at an experimentally low price. I think we all know what the experiment was now.
Nice comparison, but we didn’t buy a “used” product but a brand new one. And no matter how cheap a brand new product is, I expect it to work properly.
Sure, software will always have bugs, because it is never really finished, but I have no sympathy for issues that are immediately apparent if you try the software only once. That’s more like buying a truck and noticing that the rear left tire is missing. Something that really can’t slip by unnoticed.
But again … this point is moot. I’m pretty sure by now, that Otmar didn’t abandon the project on purpose, but that something happened to him.
Yeah, promising that “We will keep working on this airplane and work through the issues you pointed out and I hope that, with your help, we can make her better and better.” and then absolutely nothing for 8 months is a bit of a joke. But then again the warning signs were there with his Vega for FSX/P3D that he’s left in an incomplete state for years. Not saying that the 247 is in the same state as the Vega but it still does have issues and shows this guy has a history of not being able to finish anything he’s started. Hell, he even promised to add startup smoke effects to his Bleriot once they’d been added to the SDK and even though that’s incredibly minor it hasn’t been updated in something like a year and a half. It’s not major, no, but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I won’t be buying anything more from him when he finally does re-appear in months/years to promote the Vega he announced for MSFS.
I agree something has gone badly wrong with Omar and Wing42 are a one man operation so if he is out of action so are Wing42.
Generally where I come from the assumption when someone suddenly just goes off the radar completely is something has gone wrong. Real life issues like medical emergencies would come to mind.
It says a lot about the nature of Flight Simmers that many instantly assume when someone is un-contactable they are scammers ripping people off and hiding low.
Regardless the point is the 247D for now is fine and the fact that it uses its own systems not Asobo makes it somewhat immune to Asobo game changes. Of course it may eventually break with some SU or other but i have already got my $20 worth out of it.
I don’t think he’s a scammer. I think he has genuine talent and means well but he has some major issues with actually following things through to completion for whatever reason.
So something happened to him just after he released his aircraft? Sounds a little fishy to me.
Does this plane still operate properly for you after SU11?
I’ve flown this plane for dozens of hours across the United States, following the original United Airlines route. It’s been a beautiful, wonderful trip!
But on my last leg to New York, I had 2 separate engine failures immediately after takeoff, and one engine fire right before landing. The leg was less than 200 miles, and I’ve never had such problems before. This is despite putting in fresh oil, running the normal pressures/RPMs, and oil pressure from 70-90 psi.
Just wondering if this is some unexplained quirk, or whether there’s still something I don’t understand about how this plane is supposed to be operated.
That this aircraft has legitimate issues has been documented at length in this thread. I think that it is important to remember that if a user paid money in exchange for a product, they have a right to complain if something is not working correctly. This right exists independent of another user’s validation of those issues. Please do not call out one users complaints or dismiss the concerns just because you view the issues as minor. That type of behavior will lead us down the road that some other well-known forums have gone down.
We know that the engine gauges have erratic behavior and many of us have tried to troubleshoot the issues to no avail. We can only hope that the developer emerges at some point to make this module even better than it is today. It is quite obviously a very popular product today despite the issues. I personally believe that it is the multitude of things that this aircraft gets right, that makes so many of us want to see it get even better.
This plane hasn’t operated properly for anybody since it’s been released. That has been acknowledged by the developer himself, and has never been patched. Therefore, it can’t possibly operate properly now. See my above comment on the Devs own description of these issues.
Personally, I’m fine with whatever Wing42 decides to do. What irks me is the 8 months of radio silence on what their plans are. Anything is better then hearing static… I’d even rather hear “take a hike suckers, thanks for your money”
That is simply untrue. People have been taking the 247D around the world operating properly. It has been robust through several SU’s.
I didn’t say you couldn’t fly it. I said you couldn’t fly it properly. Even the Dev acknowledged these issues and documented them before he went silent. They’re on the post I shared above.
I think this is a fair assumption, but personally, if it were me, unless I had dropped dead (let us hope that is not the case!) I would still find a way to at least update the community and my customers on the situation.
As I said, untrue. You can fly it properly. I k now about all the posts above.
You can use the pressure & temp gauges properly? As written in the manual?
Yes. But you need to consider two things 1) T&P react slowly, important to manipulate the controls subtly, not more than once every 15 minutes, and 2) load the proper oil before the flight or you’ll be in trouble. The ONLY real bug I found is sudden oil quantity loss in longer flights. Better check my checklist on flightsim.to instead of the manual.
One thing is certain (looking through this thread), there are a lot of interest in this add-on. I’ve had many hours of enjoyment from it and I don’t regret getting it even though it could use a bug fix.
As long as it keeps being available for those who have purchased it and that it doesn’t get broken with future updates, I am sure I will have countless more hours of fun in it.
