Reno racing possible cheat or network issue?

There a video online showing me during a race in P51 on my first day, i was flying very aggressively using lots of rudder and sharp turns, my fastest lap was 58 sec and i don’t think i managed to do it again, each time i race it seems like i have to unlearn and figure it out again and again. Obviously there’s a few guys who got it right cause i end up 4 seconds behind whenever i race against them. A chat would be great that’s why i was mentioning a discord in another topic, i wish we could have something to build a racing community like we do for other competitive gaming im into, with tournaments and stuffs.

What are these keys assigned to? I don’t see the keyboard in VR.

That was a joke, right? these keys aren’t bindend by default

I’m pretty sure I saw one guy once dump fuel during a flight, but I couldn’t find an operable function in any of the Reno airplanes. Any idea how this works? In theory, this can give a speed boost.

Dunno if it’s my lowered rpm or me smoothly ruddering my way at every corners but i definitely improved my time here.

I’m also seeing guys with the landing gears out but i don’t think it’s such a great idea :joy:

True, but when you are already at the edge of maximum speed, and managed RPM at close to optimal mode, and someone outrunning you at a pace of 1-2 seconds per pylon section and flying in a energy-waste style, it looks strange. Good RPM management gives 1-2 seconds advantage per lap at best, but not one section

Just a brief observation, as I’ve not hugely dedicated a large amount of time into Reno Races, but I have dabbled a small bit, mainly racing against myself & my best time ghost plane, so I have done maybe 10 full 6 lap ‘races against myself’ in T6 class (have also tried the biplane class). So I know where my ballpark times are.

I finally load a race and qualification shows me to be in 6th place of 7 (fair do’s I don’t play Reno that much), BUT the planes in 1-3 position have something like a 30sec advantage in qualification times over that one lap!!
Having tried my hardest to improve by 2-3 secs on my self race laps almost grazing pilons in the process , I really don’t know how some players can be going that fast around a circuit. I have no answers, just questions, but I end up feeling like there’s no point of proceeding when the margins are so wide. It does make me wonder what these players are doing that I am not though.

I think it is a multiplayer visual bug. I was told that I flew with the extended landing gear, but from my side it was not so

Now we are still competing in knowledge of hidden game mechanics, not in piloting technique. Asobo should release a detailed manual describing everything that can affect the speed and result, or at least publish a post on the forum

Another point that is very frustrating, and that needs to be revised, is that I (and all the players in the top 10) no longer get points in the Unlimited and T6 categories in 9 out of 10 races, but I can lose a lot of them by one race if I lose it flying into the “crash train” at start

And you can’t see before the race what the chance of getting some points is or is it a zero-point race. Taking part in such a race, I spoil the game for other players, and I get nothing

I thought that all planes were equalised for races, and only different between models in the same class if racing on your own. So should it not be the case that qualification is equalised too? Maybe it isn’t? I don’t know, I just know that some observed qualification time differentials (I saw this weekend) were not humanly possible given all planes equal. I don’t have answers, but the most challenging/equal race seems to be against myself/ghost as things stand.

Correct.
The system used to gain points is similar to ELO in chess.
But it is not very well implemented. If you win the race, you should gain same points even if others pilots are low rated.
It would like to see pilots rating when joining race too.

Yep, as i explained somewhere else, once you reached 2400, you can only make points against other players having reached this score as well. You can even lose points by placing second if in front of players with score lower than 2000… that was pretty upsetting cause the leader still got his points of course, he got the one i lost. So basicaly, now that we are over 2400, the real game begins.

And once again, i lost the ability to rudder or adjust my rpm during a race while it was working fine during qualification… pretty annoying. I did then another race 1vs1 with the guy who beat me, i was leading for 4 laps then, out of the blue, he passed me and won with 3 to 4 seconds ahead… Still have no clue about what i’m doing obviously.

I’m glad you figured it out. You’ve obviously figured your racing line out, given your TT time.

For what it’s worth, I don’t bother using the rudder at all. I’m on an Xbox using a controller. I’m not quite in the top 10, but close. Maybe a bit of coordinated rudder could lose me the extra second to break into the top 10.

Still, you got me pretty well during our last race

It would be interesting to see who’s on Xbox and who’s on PC because this might also be an explanation for different race performances.

oh but now i remember, you hit a pole… but if it wasn’t for that pole, you would have won easily.

I am using pc, and hp revergb g2 headset.
With VR the times hud are shown in the middle of the point of view.
If I turn VR off and on again during the race, the HUD goes to a correct position, but I can’t turn off and on VR in the middle of the race. So i fly with the HUD in the middle of the view, or sometimes without hud.
I hope Asobo fix this soon.

same here,i get the HUD right in the middle of the screen, i can’t see my instruments. Nor see the qualification results. Flying with Rift S here.

I also get this problem sometimes, pedals and throttle stop working after qualification. quick reconnection of the usb hub returns control, but I lose 2-3 seconds of the race for this

The thing is. Your description does actually resemble a net issue more than cheating, I’ve also read through that thread and watched the video of this apparent exploit in use and to be fair I’m not sure I saw anything that didn’t just look like laggy servers. (Which lets be honest…FS2020…)

As you described.
Not in lobby? Not listed at start of race? Suddenly appearing in race but half a race ahead?
All of that just sounds like dodgy server type stuff.

I did see something odd after finishing a race in the jet class.

I won but for some reason on the lap times for the first lap it showed i had travelled at 1000km/h and a much shorter lap time of around 48secs all other laps its was around 720km/h and 58/59 secs so not sure what the reason is for that but I certainly wasn’t cheating and still only finished 2 secs ahead of 2nd.
