RTX 5090 Announced at CES 2025

For me right now, as someone who uses VR almost all the time, even without upgrading from a 4090, the improvements in DLSS 4 which are coming to most Nvidia cards will certainly be very welcome. Not the new multi frame generation, as that does not work in VR, but the new method of upscaling, which promises better clarity and handling of movement. As FS 2024 currently has around 30% lower framerates in VR than FS2020, especially for higher resolution headsets, forcing the use of more DLSS upscaling, this is a big deal.

Reports are stating it will come to MSFS and FS 2024 on the release date of the 5000 series, or very soon after. Hopefully that’s true.

Promises promises

There is the Pimax Crystal Super this month, and the MeganeX next month which have super high resolutions (which will require compression). I’m starting to regret preordering the MeganeX because DisplayPort2.1 would have been perfect for that headset, and I am sure they will release a version that will have it. But I doubt the switch would happen for the one I preordered since shipping starts next month.

They are playing the mindshare game now, and that’s part of the hype cycle. Growth has stopped. Reinvent yourself as an AI company because Cloud was already done to death. Artificial inflation of the stock price. All the signs are there.

Mmm … I have wondered the same thing myself :slightly_smiling_face:

well the 5090 has been a long time coming and then, kind off, oh is that it?

Then no real benchmarks and show casing etc,

Hello. I was thinking of buying a 5080 because the price of the 5090 is really exaggerated! The problem will always be the same, the 5080 is announced €1,200 but I already see crazy prices…

Silly all these comparison fps game videos - you want to put a video card thru its paces use MSFS - drives me crazy lol

And so it begins.

Not much we can do really except try and get a FE or alternatively wait three to five (?) months or so for prices to maybe normalise. Not sure what effect though potential US tariffs will have on these cards longer term though especially in Europe.

Looking on the bright side (never a bad thing) at least waiting gives you time to look at benchmarks and see whether there are any issues with the new cards.

Heck, wait maybe six to nine months and you might get a 5080 Super with 24 gb VRAM.

Right, I can wait, MSFS 2024 isn’t ready anyway.

I was thinking about upgrading my 2080 super, however at these prices they can stick ‘m where the sun don’t shine. The 2080 super still performs very well even with some ultra settings in fs2024.

Now that is expensive, anyone with a 4090 going to buy a 5080?

… and going from 24 to 16 GB? No one.

Multi frame gen in msfs2024 to me
Is pointless. I all ready get 100-120 fps with my 4090 Using frame gen at 4K DLSS quality mode using a 7950X on an lG-C1 at 120hz with g-sync enabled.

Why would I want more than 100 frames? Can’t see the point. What would the 5090 give me over the 4090? Nothing.

Makes no sense.

What about DLAA at stable 120 fps?

Prices are horrible, it is like Mining craze happening again. But this time it is AI… It is sad.

Careful pls You might have to wait weeks to get an RTX 5090 or 5080 due to "extremely limited supply" at launch - PC Guide and

What about it? DLSS in quality mode all ready provides a good enough image in 4K.

I notice a substantial difference between DLSS Quality and DLAA on my 55" OLED TV. Additionally, microstutters are reduced. DLSS 4 might help mitigate the difference, though.
