Rudder doesn't recenter by itself

Hi guys, I don’t have pedals and I’m using only a joystick. After this new update rudder doesn’t recenter by itself even though auto rudder is ON. Does anybody have this same issue? Any solution? It is stressful that I can’t even take off the plane because it starts sliding on the runway.

Same prolblem.

Why should the rudders auto center?

Why?? Because, using a joystick (twist axis, for lack of a better name) the joystick returns to center and rudders should too. This worked very well in every other sim in the past.

Experienced the same after the December 22, 2020 update. Auto center doesn’t make sense for those who have rudder pedals, but for me who use a game pad and for the others that only use a joystick it makes more sense. I wish there was an option to turn auto center on and off.

I can’t even fly now. I’ve tried adjusting every setting one at a time to all of them from -100% to +100%. To me the worst one seems to be the ailerons. No matter my setting, barely moving my Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold joystick results in nothing happening. That is until I cross over some invisible threshold then the yoke inside the airplane will go full left or full right depending on which way I moved my joystick. I have no control over the plane now. I barely make it 2 minutes into a flight before I spiral into the ground. No other flight sim behaved this way and neither did MSFS 2020 until today’s update. What good is making a change to the control behavior if it makes a bunch of people unable to fly anymore? Right now it seems I get no response or full response on all 3 axis, there is no in between. Having a rudder that won’t autocenter anymore makes the situation worse. I don’t care if it’s all in the name of realism. If I can’t stay airborne or if I have to fight it every step of the way it’s useless to me. Looks like I won’t be flying until the next patch.

OK with all settings at their default, when I move my joystick to the left nothing happened until about 50% of my joysticks travel then instantly my inside yoke did this. I let off my joystick which recentered itself however my plane’s yoke stayed full left. I couldn’t move my joystick in any combination to get my planes yoke to go back to center which would be required for straight and level flight.

Its helpful when you don’t have pedals. Because you must use buttons to control the rudder but now it doesn’t work.

I think the update is to increase the realism to those who have yokes and rudder pedals as they have access to the full range of motion through the 3 flight axis. However, it leaves those of us who use joysticks and gamepads. Looks like I’m grounded as well until the next update.

Looks like the joystick axis on your and @LonghornRam joysticks need to be re-assigned.

No such problems with my T16000M.

If you don’t have pedals you can use a twist grip joystick or a gamepad to achieve realistic rudder control.

Doesn’t work on a game pad. Using Xbox controller, as I was before the update, now rudder inputs are stepped and direct. I had to map a “Center Rudder” command, but its essentially useless for rudder control now.

Doesn’t the xbox controller has two sticks???

On my gamepad I’m using the assignment like with a RC model.

Left stick elevator and aileron and the right stick for rudder.
(some prefer elevator/rudder on the left and aileron right stick)

Left stick = primary flight control
Right stick - Primary POV manipulation

If you are using MSFS as a FLIGHT sim, assigning the primary FLIGHT controls in a realistic way is IMO more important than view control.

Well, it was working before no issue. Assigning a single rudder axis to a perfectly good POV hat when the triggers USED to work for rudder control is IMO counterintuitive.

Using the triggers for rudder control doesn’t provide the required precision IMO.

No wonder people are complaining about directional control problems, especially during takeoff and landing.

Worked precise enough for me. Thanks for your input.

For those who are looking for a solution, no matter if you are using the keyboard or controller, go to key setting, reset the keys you are using for rudder from rudder (yaw left) and rudder (yaw right) to rudder axis left and right. What they did in the latest update was just changed the key settings.

Found on other thread Anyone has serious rudder problem after recent update?

This solved it for me. Thanks!

Gamepad user here. Simply blew away the controller profile and started again and gamepad rudder auto-centres again.
