Saitek Flight Panels

Haha.
I don’t need the sympathy but I appreciate your sentiments.
I don’t do it for the can’t be bothered and plain lazy, but I like to think that it might just give
the odd newbie a leg up into the world of simming.

All the best to you.

Getting back to my Multi-panel after a week of trying stuff. Still need to unplug the panel and plug it in again… even after making sure I had the latest Logitech Utility (unloaded /reloaded). Load while in the Sim.
As I mentioned, I didn’t have issues in FSX. What throws me is that the display does not work but Flaps and Trim do. I can turn on Auto Pilot, though I don’t know what direction/elevation it would track on.
It does seem to be power related or some wake on Power up within the panel itself.

I was hoping a BIOS update for my Motherboard might have finally did the trick, but no luck. Checked for updates on my USB drivers (none). I guess I’ll need to keep coming back here, await the next Tr1cky Utility update

My Saitek Avionics switch issue is back in the C152 but works with the C172…Strange

I am sorry if you tried this and I missed it, but do you have a switch bound to Avionics 1 in MSFS? I am using the Honeycomb Alpha, and it has a bind for Avionics 1. If I do not turn that switch on after I am in the cockpit, the display on the multi panel will not work - it will be backlit but will not have any numbers.

If you go into MSFS and bind Avionics Master 1 to anything, then try toggling that once you are in the cockpit and see if your numbers come to life. That was the trick for me.

Again, apologies if you already did that.

I do have a switch on the Saitek Switch panel associated with Avionics (Default). I tried toggling this switch but still no joy. All I can see on the display is the backlight. For the display to work, I have to cycle power to the panel(unplug/plug in the USB. All other functions work. Flaps, Trim, even AutoPilot, though I can’t see the setpoints.

Very sorry.
Because I have been unreasonably and unfairly censured again,
I am no longer able to help.

Hi, my best guess is that there are some entries in the regestry that could cause these issues. It’s the power management setting in the key of the device which need to be located first. So call regedit.exe in a command prompt (cmd.exe) an search for the following key:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
and look for the hardware id of your Saitek panel that you will find in your devices and printers are listed. Go the property details and find correct ID
Under IDs like VID_06A3&PID_0D06 you’ll find Device Parameter and there a DWord called EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled - set this to 0 and the system will keep up the power and won’t disconnect it again.

That helped me out. Unfortunately after each Windows Update i.e. 19.03 to 20.04 you need to check it again. Regards Guido (Hamburg)

Hi I havve used Saitek panels for years in FSX. They work fine in MSFS2020 when I start on the runway. However when I start cold and dark, when I connect aircraft to ground power only my gauges become live. My Multi panel radio panel and multi switch are inoperable. Any solutions?

As I said. check the energy settings of the devices. And have the latest driver installed and everything works any time, I’m sure.

Thank you GuiHuy (Guido)
I thought I had seen your post before referring to power management. (bit more on that later)
After going over my Device Manager, I was eventually able to find the MultiPanel. Very difficult to find the Panel out of 12 USB Devices installed on my machine. I eventually found Bus Reported Device Description in the Details
image
Once found scrolled up to Hardware IDs to find the Registry Device Parameter. As you said it was VID_06A3&PID_0D06, the Enhanced Power Management Enabled was set to 1. I set it to 0
One item I had noticed earlier and maybe enhancements to Windows has exposed the registry setting; In the Device Manager entry for the MultiPanel includes a 5th tab, Power Management. It was checked by default, I unchecked this as well

Unfortunately, there is no change to the behaviour of the LCD Display on this panel alone. The Radio Panel and Switch Panels work normally. I also tried toggling the Avionics switch
The Logitech Utility is loaded

Hi, happy new year y the way, you need to find out if it is the wright one U changed…that’s why I said go to device manager where U also find your printers, properties, details an lock for the detail called hardware id. This is the one that needs to be changed. I haven’t used the panel settig itself to make these changes. I’ll try that. You defintely need to repoot because the registry might not be reloaded yet. But I guess you know that as well.
Regards Guido

Happy New year to you as well

Going through all of the steps, I can’t see that I’m making any mistakes. If I am let me know.
Here’s the capture from my Devices in Win 10 Setup

The only option if I click on it is to remove the device, which is probably my next and only step, either from here or Device Manager
In Device Manager, I have a bit more power, however it will be a bit more of a challenge to determine which is the right device

This is where I had to open each device, one by one, look at the Bus Description to determine I had the right device, and then examine the Hardware ID for that device
image image
With that information I then started regedit

I think my next step is to uninstall the Multipanel in device Manager, then find the device again… maybe I have a bad driver install

Hi, the only thing to maybe solving the issue is to refresh all the settings. So remove all the USB stuff by
unplugging, removing the USB devices using the “old” device manager and remove the driver. Check if the registry is clean now in terms of the relating USB device data. Nothing like what you have on your registry screenshot should be there any more that looks like VID…0D05 0D06 or of any Saitek device.
Reinstall the driver first, than plugin the multi panal, check the USB setting in the registry and then try it in the game. Than add panel by panel and check it in the game after each added panel. That’s the last option I see. You can also try to use a powered USB hub, that’s what I’m using. I have a version with a blue switch for each of the 8 USB ports so I don’t have to physically unplugg anything. Best regards Guido

This worked for my switch panel. I don’t own the others, but this content is worth a try!

Hello and best wishes, in my case I noticed that the plugin stops when launching msfs just after checking for updates. In this case it is the initialization of msfs which causes the stop of the plugin. I do not explain why because I do not know where to find logs to exploit. I applied all the procedures described above without any results. I use the Pro Flight Multi Panel with the radio panel in DCS without problem, my windows 10 is in 20h2 and the msfs installation is blank. I am open to any suggestion. Have a good day.

This one has been addressed before. Maybe this will help.

The Saitek hardware is particularly sensitive to power provided through the USB, and the panels in particular will not work through USB 3.0.

Michael Brown over at Xforce PC has a video on the issue among the dozens he has made. If you are a serious simmer and closet hardware geek, you need to see what he covers.

I plugged a 20 watt hub into a USB 2.0 port and tied the Saitek panels to that combination and my problems with this particular issue went away.

Amazon Plugable USB Hub, 10 Port - USB 2.0 with 20W Power Adapter and Two Flip-Up Ports.

Also, Windows has some issues trying to automatically lower the panels to a power saver mode. That needs to be disabled. A free utility to accomplish that task is available and has been mentioned elsewhere in some of the discussions. http://uraster.com/en-us/products/usbenhancedpowermanagerdisabler.aspx

I think that electrical devices take the power they need, provided it meets their requirements, if not enough, they don’t work properly. The Saitek panels were designed to get power from a USB Hub built in the Saitek Yoke, provided that power was provided the hub with a AC Adapter that came with my Yoke with an Output of 2000 mA 10W (input 100-240V, 50-60Hz,0.04A), they work fine with the old Saitek drivers in Windows, at least for me in X-Plane 10 & 11. Then Sparker wrote some drivers for X-Plane and the work even better. When I replace my Yoke, I replace the hub with an EasyAcc powered hub with 7 ports, 5 standard USB 3.0 and 2 Smart USB 3.0 2A Max. The hub connects to 1 port 3.0 to my Laptop Lenovo 7i. It also provide power to my MFG pedals and Alpha Yoke and 3 Saitek panels. As soon the drivers from Logitech were issued, I had no,problems and everything works fine. I did unbind the buttons in the panel of the Honeycomb Yoke, but other than that I have no issues in MSFS2020. In Xplane I have the Honeycomb Yoke with all the bindings able, and the Saitek panels work fine with the Sparker driver, if I use the Logitech driver, the same behavior of MSFS2020 occurs in X-plane because of the Honeycomb Yoke presence.
To summarize, this is not the case of USB 2.0 or 3.0, is about drivers and software properly written for. You need the proper Hub to connect all you panels, yoke, pedals to your PC, only un port is used in mine to connect all the hardware for the sim. The Alpha Honeycomb Yoke interference with the Logitech Saitek Panels drivers needs to be resolved.

I do not think that the origin of these various problems is the power supply, for my part my panels are connected to a usb 3 hub powered with a 48w power adapter. To remove all doubts I positioned my panels directly on the ports of the motherboard without more success.
By pushing my observations I noticed that the plugin crashes when launching SimConnect when activating the console.
It seems normal to me that if the plugin crashes the panels are not active.
Thanks for your feedback.

Edition du 04 janvier
At the launch of Msfs SimConnect established the connections and returns an error message “GetLastError = 0x000002E4” when launching LogiMicrosoftFlightSimulator.exe.
If I restart the exe with -r directly in the PowerShell I get an export frame then a “Disconnected! (5, C000014B)” disconnection
The plugin opens well but it disconnects after an export.

Hi there,

This is a known issue with the way FS2020 is handling avionics through SimConnect. Provided you have our Switch Panel and the aircraft you’re using doesn’t have any issues (a number of them still do) then usually switching the Avionics switch on the panel will bring the panels to life as expected. If that isn’t working then you need to bind a key on the keyboard or one of the buttons on the controller you use to the Avionics 1 function in-game and then activating that will wake up the panels.

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year - sorry for not being around for the last few weeks; I shut down completely over the Xmas break. I think it’s worth going into the issues that some people have with the displays on the panels not working and clarifying what it is and isn’t caused by.

Drivers
The Panels were designed to be USB HID-compatible devices that utilise the generic HID drivers built into Windows. There are no drivers needed nor provided by Logitech, so there’s literally nothing that we can do to update the driver because they’re not ours to update.

USB 2.0/USB 3.0
Whilst the panels were originally designed more than 15 years ago and are USB 1 devices, that shouldn’t matter when running through more modern USB ports because the USB standard is backwards-compatible. So when someone says “the panels won’t work with USB 3.0 ports” this is not strictly true. What is true is that despite USB being a standard, the implementation of the USB drivers and firmware does vary from motherboard to motherboard; as well, the almost infinite variation of the other hardware that can be installed in a particular PC (power supply, graphics card, memory, processor, hard drive, other peripherals) means that there’s any number of things that can be causing the issue. The correct phrase should therefore be, “the panels won’t work with the USB 3.0 ports on my particular PC configuration” :slightly_smiling_face:

Any issues with displays not working are usually enumeration issues, as some have seen where they can unplug/replug the panel and it then works. Using the power management trick can help with this and even sometimes powered USB hubs (whose implementation quality also very much varies from device to device) can help. Ultimately though if none of those make any difference then the solution that usually works is a PCI USB card, because this has its own USB chipset.

Hope that helps!

@Tr1cky thanks for keeping the Logitech plugin up to date.
Are you aware of the ADF issue with radio panel that only allows to change two digits out of four?
