Try an approach or take off from Teterboro or LaGuardia and pan your camera or turn towards the city. It only happens when I’m at a bit of a distance. If I’m over the city already and everything is loaded into VRAM, it runs pretty smooth. It’s the stuttering at a distance that kills the immersion for me. It could be because I have an additional add-on in the area. If you have no add-ons, you may be lucky.
I have KTEB as well, the freeware Manhattan Heliports (which certainly isn’t texture heavy) and couple of freeware bridges and stadiums.
Nothing that should cause much issue (im going to try without KTEB, but thats not a solution. its my New York base!) but ill have a play. If i’ve leaned anything about this sim it’s things that shouldnt cause issues often do!
I’ve just purchased this via the Orbx site and it looks great.
Thankfully I have a top-end system so this runs like a dream, frame rates for NYC are much higher with this than without.
Wow, somethings up for me then as i’m about 10FPS down with this installed compared to default with PG on.
I only tried once, took off using the jetpack from default LaGuardia. Maybe because the jetpack is way more simpler than A320 ot B787 and I selected the clear preset.
Sadly the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has not been improved.
Tried it with the Stearman and it’s fantastic…well worth the investment as I fly around NY quite a lot
Has anyone been using this scenery since the latest round of updates? I just got it and it does look spectacular but get around 10 - 15FPS with my RTX 3080.
Yes, I’ve used it.
And is cripplingly low FPS usual with it?
No, it’s working just fine.
Sadly that seems to be my experience with it. Its ok at higher altitudes but get anywhere near it and it turns things into a total slide show, even in a smaller GA plane. Into the bin it goes. I really wish some of these third party scenery developers would realise sim optimisation is a thing.
Can you please tell us how much VRAM your gpu has and what resolution you’re rendering at? Also, what other add-ons do you have installed that are nearby? For example, Dreamflight’s Teterboro or any others? All of that can factor into your fps hit.
I’m on a 2070s with 8GB of VRAM rendering at 1080p locked at 30fps and I can maintain 30fps for the most part. The problem is when I look away then look back towards the city, I get bad stuttering due to the textures needing to be reloaded indicating my issue is a lack of VRAM on my GPU to handle the massive texture sizes this add-on uses.
Just did a bit more testing with this. Even dialling settings down doesn’t make any difference. It seems to have serious issues. I get 42FPS with the camera pointed away from the scenery and 8FPS with the camera pointed towards it.
I’ve got an RTX 3080. 10GB of VRAM. Out putting at 4K with the sim render scale at 80%
No other New York addons installed.
What CPU are you running? I got a 3080 and cranked up to ultra with LOD 300 I get around 28fps. Also looks like your FPS is limited by CPU. Whereas mine says that it’s GPU bottlenecked.
The fact that you’re rendering close to 4K and have just a slightly higher amount of VRAM than I do indicates the issue is definitely the size and quality of the textures. Other things worth mentioning is have you increased your object or terrain LOD settings in your config file past the 200 in game limit? Not sure if that would have an effect on third party scenery objects or not, but maybe it’s possible.
With the fact that GPUs are hard to come by these days and New York City has historically been the most computer intensive area of the world in Flight Sim for as long as I can remember, I do wish more attention had been paid to optimize this add-on. I mean you have three major international airports within rendering distance, one of which (JFK) is already handcrafted not to mention add-ons like Teterboro. I had emailed the developer suggesting he release a version with smaller texture file sizes so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
How much VRAM?
10 Gig, and I’m even running the KLGA and NY Bridge Addons. It is, however, on 1440 UW
A 5600X. It should be able to handle it.
I haven’t touched anything in any config file. I tried all sorts of combinations in the sim. 100% LOD. 300% LOD. Even turning things down to 1440p and none of it made any difference to anything, I still get about 10fps anywhere near this scenery.
This is the only city scenery I have issues with. I’ve got a few of the big Orbx ones like Sydney and there’s a little FPS hit with them but really not much, nothing like this New York one. I guess in the NY case its a bad combination of very heavy photogrammetry in the surrounding area mixed with 4K scenery textures. God knows why they have to be as high as 4K. The rest of the photogrammetry for the New York area is fairly low res anyway.
