I agree. Compare the texture folders for those other add-ons to this one and see how much higher in size this one is. I have Seattle Landmarks and Las Vegas and they both perform way better.
Iām actually in mind to message them and say their scenery is unusable for me. Its a shame as it looks great but I bet it would still look great if the scenery textures were at a slightly lower resolution.
Iāve just tested it again - 4K with all setting set the highest possible (ie higher than Ultra) and Iām still getting at least 35fps at all times. Absolutely no issues so perhaps something else is messing with your experience.
Specs? GPU, VRAM, CPU?
Varifocals.
3090, 64GBās, i9-10940.
Your 3090 has 64 GB of VRAM?? Or perhaps you mean your regular system RAM is 64 GB.
Assuming your 3090 has the standard 24GB of VRAM, youād have more than double the amount that @Mobias7 has so that would explain why you can maintain a constant 35 fps with this add-on. Unfortunately, not all of us can afford a $1500-$2000 GPU.
I assumed you meant RAM as there arenāt many named GPUās available with differing levels of VRAM.
I was getting 35 fps prior to the latest SU, I am getting 35 fps now. No impact - that was my point.
Having all that extra VRAM clearly makes the difference. I remember when the 3090 came out last year there were so many reviews saying it was totally overkill for gaming because no game in existence would ever require 24GB or VRAM. Evidently these reviewers didnāt recon on Flight Simulator 2020 coming out with monstrously sized bits of city scenery.
So, having stuttering here with a 3080, and seeing 99% GPU utilization with it. I get terrible stuttering landing at KLGA which isnāt there without the scenery. Interestingly, this is new since SU6. Also interestingly is that this doesnāt happen flying over the city, just on approach to airports (presumably as itās being loaded).
Has anyone found a way to fiddle with settings to avoid this? I too wonder if downgrading some textures a bit will help this and will email them as well.
BTW, I think that the stuttering really started happening at SU6. I wonder if all of their nice LOD draw distance updates are interacting with custom scenery differently. If feels like everything is being loaded in bigger clumps nowā¦
Yup, Iām finding this with not only this scenery but a lot of addons since SU6. Both vram and overall gpu usage is up, framerates are down from SU5 in heavier areas. It seem all the performance gains from SU5 have gone and weāre back to pre SU5 performance. Probably not as noticeable for you with a 3080 in lots of places, but as a 2060 Super user iām seeing this a lot now.
I disagree. Yes performance is a bit worse than immediately after SU5. But definitely much much better than pre SU5
No, Iām definitely seeing the difference with a 3080 as well .
I think @Stuthemoose and @PancakeAgent are both right at the same time. I think a lot of SU5 performance gains were based on dialing back LOD and draw distances, and that SU6 restored a lot (but not all) of those. As a result, post SU6, I think performance is still better than pre-SU5 overall at near pre-SU5 appearances.
However, relating specifically to this NYC add on that the thread is addressing, it absolutely performs worse for me post-SU6. Pre-SU6, it was smooth and without stutters (I even wrote on sites saying how amazing the performance was) but itās definitely stuttery now post-SU6.
I emailed Samscene to make them aware of the thread here, and they wrote back (impressively quickly) saying they are aware that some users are having issues with it and, but are looking into optimization.
Yeah just bought this and I get about 20-24 fps whilst flying low in the jmb. This is on a ryze 5800x with a 3060 ti.
Without it Iām getting 40fps on ultra settings at 1440.
Real shame as it looks ace but as someone said above does it really need 4k textures?
I do have some addons, seafront shipping and Henricks shipping and some bridges.
Just bought this on Xbox Series X, overall the buildings look really good. However, there are parts of NYC where there is some severe freezing and stuttering (particularly around the Financial District on the south end of Manhattan). Every time I loaded into the Discovery Flight with this add-on installed I noticed it.
Youāre gonna get that with scenery landmarks add ons and/or heavy aircraft traffic in the area. Not saying itās right but thatās the state of the performance on console right now, and after the update. I get consistent heavy stutters flying into Mexico City too but thatās because Iāve got both Mexico City landmarks and the airport add on.
Iām honestly just glad the 100+ unique buildings donāt pop in until Iām virtually right in front of it, as it does on SamScenes Seoul and HK.
I am on an XBox Series X. I bought this, and had Bijanās Fall Season pack running at the same time. I didnāt notice any bad performance. Now granted, I wasnāt flying really low, but I flew several passes around looking to see if the bridges were all detailed now, seeing if the building with weird textures were still a problem, etc and I didnāt notice any performance hits. I thought it was quite stunning with the two addons and was quite happy.
Interesting, I also have Bijanās Fall season as well. Iām going to reset my rolling cache to see if that helped.
I wasnt saying the Fall Season helped. I was just saying that adding even more addons to the same area should have seen a negative impact if there was one.
