Some might not consider this a bug, call it a design flaw, but I find it really annoying. The idenfication tab in the aircraft selection menu is a “single” entity, this is ridiculous. I should be able to set these fields for EVERY aircraft/livery that I fly and have it “stick”. Instead what happens is that after I set it for my 777F, the next time I load my little Skyhawk ATC ends up calling me “Heavy”, I mean REALLY? It’s a database configuration, each aircraft and all its individual liveries have a UNIQUE and different registration right, and that value I believe will get set automatically, but if you put a callsign, like “Fedex” into the tab, when you load a Piper it will STILL call you Fedex…

How is this a new Wishlist item? People have been saying this for years… anyway, 100% needs to be AT least per plane, ideally per Variant + Livery, BEST would be all of the above, for example, set a default value on the plane and let me override it at the Variant and/or Livery level. If we only get ONE option I would vote for setting it at the lowest level so they feel more like individual planes.
Should also consider impact on Career mode planes… be nice if Career mode plane used custom tail registration (for that Livery for example). That way things like Volanta have better data.

Good point and you are right, it is a request that comes since FS2020. I think the original wish where users have started requesting this functionality is this one: Save aircraft configuration (tail number) from flight to flight.
But the original request from OP is different and has been implemented.
So taking advantage of @jfvogel new request for the same, we now have a dedicated and correct topic for this wish.
I brought this issue up long ago on Avsim, and for some reason got haranged like I didn’t know what I was talking about… it was surreal. I’m happy to see support, I hope it can be changed.
Thanks, I’d very much like to see this in the sim at some point… it’s not critical obviously but is a small QOL thing especially (for me) in conjunction with tracking software like Volanta.
Please please can we please have Tail number per plane. I am getting so sick and tired of the Tail Number for one plane appearing on other planes. What am I doing wrong?
I am talking about the identification section of a livery. If I set the Tail Number to say G-FOXX on the Citation I do not want to see that Tail number on the avionics of the say the iFly 737-Max even though the correct Tail number is on the planes livery.
This is such a silly and time wasting immersion breaking bug, Just make it per plane, per livery it cant be that hard!

Apparently there is a very large part of the community that voted on forum topics leading to exactly the way it is today. There were quite a few beta threads about the same. With a community as large as ours, it may not always be possible to please both sides of an issue.

I don’t see how it should fall into the category of one or the other, you have; Setting A) - Reg For All Aircraft and Setting B) - Reg for Specific aircraft.
So when you go to Customise Aircraft, you see your default Reg but change that particular aircraft to a different reg, this means other aircraft are untouched. Seems like common sense to me.

All I can say is that I recall numerous posts over time that argued for either registration number persistence (what we have now) vs. something like registration number per aircraft model. Of course there are other ways to code more complex solutions, as you suggest, but that was never on the table as I recall. Perhaps search out some wishlist items or make a new one?
Personally I’d be happy if ALL aircraft in the sim, stock and add-ons, had Dynamic Registration. Then you can do whatever you like! I can’t (won’t) use some aircraft and/or liveries simply because I can’t personalise them.
Is Dynamic Registration so difficult to implement I wonder? I’m no programmer so have no idea.
What’s the rationale of the crowd that wants registrations to carry over between aircraft and liveries? That makes little sense to me.

To add insult to injury, if you have aircraft with registration numbers assigned via livery (Black Square, A2A, PMDG, etc.) and then go to fly one that does not (C185, C172 (Carenado)) you need to type in a tail number or you get the dreaded ASXGS.
Ok, fine, so you’ve typed in your tail number and now you want to switch back to an aircraft with one assigned via livery. Well, thanks to this bug, you have to reboot the sim to do it:

There’s several reasons, but, the main reason is people who use VATSIM sometimes want to keep the same reg across planes.
That’s quite unrealistic though. Regardless, if someone wants to do that, they can manually input their tail number and not inconvenience those that do want realism. This is a simulator after all.

I’m confused, I’m sure there’s a way the interface could be set up so you could have both.
They need to fix the atc_id in the aircraft.cfg file first (have they already?). After that, they figured out how to do gobal and per plane control parameters, they can do the same here.
I would say I want to have full control of the aircraft.cfg file, there’s nothing proprietary in it. But I can see maybe they use some of those variables for career mode, which may be why they want to control it. I don’t know. Then again, that whole concept of how they believe career mode planes have to be encrypted needs to be explained and reviewed.

I wonder if it would be possible to have dynamic registration on the default PC12 NGX liveries. Only the all white livery has a dynamic registration, all the others don’t show the registration at all.
