I threw this together to illustrate a concern: The new aircraft release backlog is getting out of control again. It has nearly tripled with low activity or releases in that same time, and provided that the columns where a third party has any control are not the ones increasing, the bottleneck is the ingestion process it would seem. The overall backlog I didn’t check, but it’s down this week from last week so clearly backlog progress IS being made but it seems to not favor the thing most people are into flight sim for: Aircraft.

aircraft are harder to process maybe? Maybe people are submitting faster than they can process? I don’t recall a time they were transparent about this particular process so maybe they’ll consider it in the future…
What you can also see is in the next column, per the header from the dealy is “Handed off to 3P for functional testing” and it’s been 3-5 consistently. The bottleneck is in the 3rd party’s ability to test aircraft (which you can see has been 0-2 for 2 months).
It could be that Asobo is trying not to send too much to the 3P to overload their people and stress them out. I’d rather have them working on a dozen at a time across the product spectrum, potentially weeding out the ones that won’t work so good over having them rubberstamp on 3-4 dozen at once and getting bad products on the marketplace (although some might argue the futility of this.)
As of today’s update only 5 addons are in the status of having been handed off to 3P while 86 are in Microsoft’s queue. I don’t see how 3P is the bottleneck… also, do you work for Microsoft? That’s a pretty confident claim about how their internal process works.
“The ATR 42 and 72-600 is the first edition in our Expert Series lineup and has recently received a new update, which can be downloaded via the Content Manager now!”
When was this? Are there some release notes?
because the 3P only has their queue limited to 5 it seems. I’m willing to bet that Asobo would love to send all 86 planes over to the 3P. And Developers keep sending planes to Asobo. Some things can be rubberstamped good to go, some need a little extra just to make sure (by whatever QC standards they have i’m sure )
Its literally like having your boss come to your desk, drop a massive 14" manilla folder in front of you and saying “here fix this” and then just walking away.
Nope. Not in the slightest. But i can still speculate like the rest of the internet . Maybe we’ll get answers in the next dev stream
Sorry, but what you’re saying doesn’t make much sense…
The third party wants their product out and available as soon as humanly possible- after all, they only make money from their own products where MS makes money on every single product they list within the marketplace, regardless of the 3rd party developer. You say MSFS is trying to not send too much to the 3rd party developer so they don’t overload their people, but that doesn’t make any sense as most 3rd party developers only have 1 (maybe 2) planes at that stage.
The backlog is clearly the intake processing by MS- it’s very clear in the numbers.
idk. we all seem to be focusing on what Asobo is doing (or not doing) without realizing they’re just the first step.
Fact remains nobody knows who or why theres a backlog or why it’s increasing. I’m just trying to be objective instead of trying to continually trying to blame Asobo. Maybe Asobo is on top of it and developers are just submitting content faster than they can process.
But I will repeat where i stand again: I don’t know what the intake process is. It’s completely unfair to say “just look at the numbers” without knowing what those numbers mean other than “initial processing and validation.” For all we know it’s a 5 minute process before it goes to the 3rd party.
This is that speculation i’m talking about. If people want to read it as gospel i can’t really stop them, but i’m here trying to explain my stance but focusing on Asobo’s part in the process (or really just continually looking for reasons to bash them) without knowing that process doesn’t make any more sense to me than it does the issue at hand.
If anything, it proves the internet will find meaning in things that either aren’t there, aren’t clear or aren’t defined. And even then someone will find a way to disagree.
If one did look at the other categories, they’d find similar backlog ratios.
I think this:
Looks to me like 2024 is getting closer and closer.
Looking forward to the dev livestream on 27th September.
Sadly no acknowledgement of the fantastic atmospheric rendering improvements the community has found. Can’t say I’m surprised though. But it once again reinforces the notion that the community is not listened to.
And predictively the discussions like every week are just about the marketplace.
I am half-way terrified that Jorg is gonna announce another German flying boat.
Delaying a SU when it’s not ready yet is a good desicion. Better wait a week more and have something working.
With that being said, I hope it’s due to implementation of ARPC values.
I don’t know what ARPC values are but… here’s a beer to that!
Atmospheric Rendering Parameter Calculator
Less than 2 weeks old thread and currently the 17th most upvoted item already. And very/relatively easy to implement, at least compared to many other wishlist items. Heck many in the community modded the game themselves, it’s literally just changing 3 values. Judge for yourself but it seems to give a tremendous improvement visually.
And yet, not a peep from Asobo/Microsoft.
Acknowledgements about the recent trending wishlist topic for atmospherics has been made by Community Managers in the relevant thread, and it has of course caught our attention!
We hope to be able to bring this topic up with Jorg, Seb, and Martial during the Developer Twitch.tv Stream on September 27th
So that means no implementation for now…

the whole sim is not working since, well, its release
vanilla, no mods etc, constant ctds
and more functional errors and bugs introduced with past SUs are STILL not fixed
fs2020 is a sinking ship and it looks like its time to let it go, and i dont expect SU13 to be the long-awaited game changer
when is the release of fs2024?
