Sim crashes when zooming in at the worldmap

Good to hear that it’s only in the Map. I hope it stays that way for you. Mine started that way as well and eventually it was every flight when pressing Fly if I didn’t wait about 30 seconds before pressing Fly. Now with the Bing Data off, I can press Fly right away.

Condensed version: Gigabit wired Ethernet, Win11, Steam version; I suddenly started having problems about 10 days ago (World Map, mostly). After finding this thread, I started using the WM->Filters->IFR workaround, and I had no problems for about a week (~8 flights). Suddenly (again), that no longer worked the magic, reliably getting CTDs every single time (particularly trying to fly out of KDTW Detroit.

I resorted to the 100Mbps throttling of the card, and after 4 flights with a variety of aircraft: no crashes.

I’m going to try that one now. I saw it up above, but went with the no Bing Data option. I’ll see if the 100Mbit option works just as well.

I too have a gigabit connection.

I can also confirm that the dropping to 100Mbits on the NIC settings also does the trick. Clearly there is a data synchronization/processing/speed issue with the program. I think I’m going to go the IFR Map and no Bing Data route as the flight loads much quicker, and I’m sure I will forget many times to reset my NIC speed either before or after I open MSFS.

I totally agree.
It´s time MSFS should solve this problem! I´ve heard the same from many gamers who havn´t reported the bug!

I’m having the same issue on the world map, I find it worse when loading in flight plans as that automatically zooms the map into my route. Sometimes I can quickly click fly now and beat the crash. I also find loading at Edinburgh usually cashes a crash for some reason - I clear the rolling cache and its better for a 4/5 flights and then starts again.

I’ll try limiting my NIC speed and see if this helps - from reading the thread this definitely feels like some sort of data sync issue.

Same here. Maybe there should be an option to turn off World Zoom!

Limiting network speed has worked for me, but not 100% of the time - I have still had a couple of CTDs on zooming the map. My other workaround of using a VPN has been 100% successful so far.

I’ve had several crashes recently when I’ve been sitting on the ground in the cockpit working on automation + bindings. The sim just disappears with no warning with an error 0x00000005 as usual. Appreciate this is not the thread for that, but this was with the 100Mbps NIC workaround active, twice in a row. Whereas when I switched back to 1Gbps and then went on VPN, it didn’t happen again. Could be coincidence, but I think the root cause for these map zoom CTDs may be responsible for some other CTDs too.

the VPN bit is interesting, I know a lot of ISP’s limit Microsoft connection rates - this is aimed at windows updates but I wonder if it is affecting MSFS as well. If you are behind a VPN then your ISP won’t know that you are connecting to a microsoft server - will test this evening and report back

I’ve found a short term solution that works most of the time for me. I simply avoid panning or zooming the world map at all. I just use the drop down selectors to setup my flight. In the “from” area, I select the airport, then below that, select my starting location at the airport, ramp or a gate. Same for the “to” field. Select the airport, approach and arrival for the correct airport and runway. Click fly…

I’ve been avoiding panning and zooming as well as a work around and its working most of the time. Just tried using a VPN but still got CTD after zooming and panning in the world map.

Being in SU14 beta this issue still totally disappeared, even after the new beta update, it works flawlessly.

Server load on betas is much lighter than official version. Not to say it hasn’t been improved, but…

The problem still happens after the patch and World Update. The only thing that has worked for me is turning off Bing maps, but then the game looks like crap!

I was afraid I was going to miss out on all the fun here as mine has been pretty stable, but wouldn’t you know it I just CTD’d zooming the map in Norway (WU XV).

I found that out pretty quickly. But what if I want to include POIs as intermediate points in my route? How would you do that?

Going to turn the custom filters back on, maybe that will fix it.

This mainly fixed it for me. No crash on map at least, but still 20% chance of crash loading flight: Sim crashes when zooming in at the worldmap - #94 by Baracus250

Since downloading the Nordics WU each of the last 5 flights has CTD either while on the world map page, while loading, or while flying,

Mods, can we get an update on this, as it’s been happening for over two months now and it’s getting worse.

Yeah, I have a custom version of that but had it turned off.
Back on now! Seems ok so far.
