Your antivirus software is either scanning your hard drive for viruses or monitoring suspicious activity. Add MSFS to it’s whitelist, ignore list or exceptions list.

Thanks for responding.
I have uninstalled my antivirus and the problem still persists.
Any other ideas before i uninstall msfs?

Is the default Windows Defender antivirus still installed? If so, this could be interrupting the sim. If not, it’s some other program or app which is constantly “phoning home” for some reason. Please don’t run your PC without Antivirus!

Thanks,
I disabled Windows defender when i installed my other antivirus, and re-enabled after removing said other.
Looks like ill have to reinstall MSFS.

Also a bit more info.
When i look at Process lasso Active processes I notice file explorer becomes active when the stutter happens.

A re-install may not fix this. If File Explorer becomes active, there’s a Windows issue. Please follow the steps in this guide to fix it:

wish I could help

Thanks,
You are correct reinstall did not help.
Ran the DISM commands all three it did not find errors.

Sounds like unless you have some experience in debugging windows issues, you may have to get help from someone who has that experience or you have to nuke your windows installation.

From the sound of it, it looks like some program in the background is trying to do something very specific and demanding periodically.

Do you remember since when did it start? If so, do you remember if you did anything like installing /updating any windows app? Did start using any new apps or new feature in an existing app? One of those may have caused something.

You may want to check your running background processes, although pinpointing the culprit may not be an easy task since so many background processes run anyway. You can also check the apps that start automatically from task manager start up tab, you disable them and check if the issue persists. Although you may have to enable them back again incase you need those auto starts for some functionality.

And if you are deciding to nuke windows, before doing that as a last step I would suggest rolling back to a older system restore point. Typically by default windows creates and maintains some system restore points for some time. So depending on what you have been doing, you may have some restore points which were created before this issue started happening. You may get lucky. But beware, you may lose some data that was added after that restore point was created.

There is a similar topic (stutter frequency is different) where the issue was due to a faulty USB hub. Try to disconnect as many peripherals as you can to check if issue is still there or not.

Thanks for the help,
I seen a post in from the past describing my identical problem, this person installed Glasswire network security which helped him locate the offending program.
I installed Glasswire and discovered the program Dashost service was causing the stutter, I terminated the the process using Process Laso while in the sim and no more stutters.
Now ill have to figure out what to do at this point, down load another version of it perhaps , what would you recomend.

SSDP USB discovery process was the cause, which was related to a set of controls on a bodnar board via USB

Resurrecting this post because I’m at my wits end with this problem. In my case I get a .5 - 1.5 sec pause every 60 seconds precisely. Nothing I’ve done from my 2-page troubleshooting list has eliminated the problem, including solutions advised in this thread. Tried all manner of MSFS (2020) settings, drivers, updates, unplugging usb devices, turning off numerous background processes and services, etc, etc.

Particularly frustrating as I’ve just upgraded to a new PC. 14900KF, RTX 4070Ti Super, running windows 11 24H2. I’m convinced this has little to do with MSFS, as even parked on the tarmac the 60 sec pause persists after all scenery loaded. Any fresh ideas out there?

14900kf might be failing? This CPUs have had issues… Not saying that’s the problem but try other games and see if it’s game dependent. Sry to hear the issues.

You’re definitely not alone with this pause issue - I’ve been seeing more and more posts about similar problems lately. I think someone even created a dedicated thread recently asking for help with stutters occurring every few seconds.

Since multiple users are reporting this behavior across both MSFS 2020 and 2024, I’d lean towards a system-level cause rather than something specific to MSFS. Possible culprits could include antivirus software, a recent Windows update, or even hardware monitoring tools (like those checking temps, fan speeds, etc.).

Also worth considering are background applications that interact with the sim - things like FSUIPC can sometimes introduce issues too.

Personally, I would start by disabling Memory Integrity in Windows Security and turning off virtualization in the BIOS both can contribute to stuttering or micro-pauses in games. These two tweaks alone might help stabilize things.

It’s also important to make sure your BIOS and chipset drivers are fully up to date - outdated versions can cause all sorts of subtle performance issues.

I’m running Windows 11 version 23H2 (not 24H2, which is currently quite buggy and not great for gaming) and I’m not seeing this issue at all.

Also, I don’t have any hardware monitoring tools like HWiNFO installed - I actually forgot to reinstall it after switching from an i9 13900K to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. But to be honest, I don’t even miss it - I’m not worried about CPU temps or Vcore anymore with the 9800X3D. It just runs cool and stable.

Are you running windows 10 or 11? Also does it make any difference turning off efficency cores in the bios?

I did try earlier to reinstall 23H2 cause 24h2 was causing spikes..

But how long have you been on the 23h2? Isnt windows automaticly installing 24h2 after a while??

If I recall correctly, I installed 23H2 in March 2025. Windows isn’t updating to 24H2 automatically because I’ve blocked that update in the Group Policy Editor.
