Sim Update 5: pop-in is horrible, and bad FPS stutters while switching from cockpit to external view

Well,
I am still trying to update a clean, NON-Modded MSFS.
The update Fails every time…
I am wondering, is this all about $$$
How naive of me… of course it is.

yeah, me too - it took me a few days to get used to it, and I finally just went into user config file and changed the LOD to 4 (I’m on a 3080, i9-9900k, 32gb RAM) and that made it a bit more bearable.

Still downloading update, this thread seems a bit hyperbolic tho. One person has issues so sim broke, lots of others out there are having far better experiences.

That’s because they don’t fly by swapping the camera view literally once per second to intentionally show this as a much worse issue than it actually is.

but what did you see? The Xbox previewers that were all over youtube were good to watch visually - but they’re on DX12, have it locked at 30fps, AND for the most part weren’t loading into the world map – they were doing Flight Activities vs just spawning at a random airport somewhere in the world and flying.

I am watching Londoncontroller’s stream on Twitch and I don’t notice the pop-in when he pans around external view? His stream is live now: Twitch

Is it because Londoncontrollers has a more powerful computer than the OP?

I’m sorry - not going to argue with you - but no one is trying to do this to make it look worse. Have you flown in SU5? I can assure you the LOD has absolutely been changed and it’s due to the optimizations that Asobo made for SU5.

Distortion of reality…

Agreed. People just want to argue. Whether you like it or not, it’s an intended change by Asobo - the LOD and drawing/rendering has changed to improve upon performance, so you will see pop in whether you’re in the cockpit or whether you’re using the drone. It’s just the way the sim is now.

Yes. And the issue does not appear, exactly as in the stream quoted just above by @gadwin777

The reason is simply because I don’t go around switching view literally every second, which is when the “issue” (it’s not an issue really) appears.

The fact that the video intentionally switches between views every second creating an abnormal operation case to show the issue as worse than it is, alongside the utterly alarmistic and hyperbolic title certainly doesn’t make this very credible.

Pop in is right there at the end of the video… also he’s right over the city so more is loading in sooner. No distortion at all here.

I just saw buildings in your own video pop in. Did you not see that?

And don’t forget the 22.5 gigs of additional downloads from the Market place, and I am talking Asobo downloads, which are part of the game, not 3rd party purchases. Get everything installed and then we can talk

That’s the joke

You’ll see it, I assure you. Also, some of these streamers are just flying activities vs loading into the airport cold/dark and flying from there – that also makes a difference, too. Not sure it’s as noticeable on Xbox - I only have PC experience with SU5.

Thanks for the reply. That’s immersion killing for sure. Hopefully a toggle can be implemented so PC users have the option of using surplus RAM.

Well I and many many others have seen pop-in just sitting in the cockpit. Spawn at KDFW, in A320 or 787 and you’ll see gates popping in and even some other objects popping in/out. Asobo confirmed this is just part of their optimizations – no one is making this up! lol

You can’t tell people whether their usage is supposed to be normal or abnormal. This is like complaining about those who even use the external view, or like to fly under bridges and crash into buildings with the 747. Sometimes people need to keep switching views very quickly to gauge their surroundings, not everyone is a professional pilot.
