Simrate Adjustment must be disabled in Career mode!

If this idea isn’t ratioed I don’t know what is.

This topic was in discussions for awhile where it had a bunch of replies, and recently was moved to bug reporting where votes began tallying later.

My vote is to NOT disable the sim rate in career mode. Let us play the way we want. This is single player, what does it matter? In career mode, the medium cargo missions are 3.5h long. The main long leg is about 3h and there is basically nothing to do (except a couple ATC communications). I do not mind if there is special bonus for not using sim rate. That is ok.

If we disable sim rate, let’s go all the way and disable pause and all the other options, and make sure everyone sits there in front of the monitor the whole time. No walking a dog or visiting friends, because that would be unrealistic.

Instead this gets my vote:

I will play single player the way I want to play it and there is nothing you can do about it, if they disabled sim rate 70% of the community would quit as we have lives so it’s not in there best interest to do so goodbye troll!:waving_hand:

Voted for this one!

Nobody is forcing you to use the feature. Why penalize people for skipping boring parts? have you considered that most people have a life and don’t have hours to spend flying to complete a mission? Why penalize them wtih reduced credits for skipping parts of the game? How does this affect you personally how others play the game?

This is a feature that is put in for the people who have a life and don’t have hours upon hours to fly to complete a mission. They don’t have to be penalized for having a life compared to others. Also how other players play the game should not affect you… nobody is forcing you to use the feature, and nobody is in any competition in this game

I have just one question, what do you gain with all this ?

Does it makes you feel special or something ? Cmom, let people enjoy themselfs in a SINGLE PLAYER mode that does not affect your game on any shape or form.

Oh i didnt relies there was one for and one against it :smile: heres my views on sim rate as i said in the other channal,

personally i dont think simrate will get disabled, as career mode is single player so its not hurting anyone :slight_smile: its your sim use it how your enjoy it, the only way it might get disabled my own views here, is if career mode went from single player to multiplayer with a ranking system

Well if anyone from MS is reading,

I think the community has spoken!

Sorry, I’m not getting it. Cheating what system exactly?

This game is not competitive, player who is skipping through missions just to get some plane isn’t into flying anyway and soon enough this person will leave this game, right after particular goal is achieved.

As far as I see this topic is not about “cheating”, but about nerfing player profits, effectively jailing player in the starting plane C172 for indefinitely long period (or player will be sticking to employee-only jobs to try various planes instead of owning company).

I’ve registered about 80 hours in MSFS 2024 at the moment.

Let’s say a few hours should be subtracted due to initial release date stuff, few hours related to the long loading screens. Let’s say 10 hours in total.
I can subtract another 10 hours spent for in-game trainings and getting certifications.
For simplicity sake let’s say I’ve spent about 60 hours for doing commercial missions as employee/freelancer.

My achievements at this point:

  • I own two companies - cargo and charter.
  • Cargo has C172 and Draco X assigned.
  • Charter company has C172 passenger, Vision Jet, and yesterday I’ve added B38 to the collection.

To my mind it’s very modest cadence for career progression. So it’s not about going through all the available planes in a couple of days. I’m pretty much sure there is no way to do that even with simrate turned on for 100% game time.

All my planes have been maintained properly, and even washed after each flight.

In case I sell all of these, I would have about 2 mil of in-game cash.
So profits are like 33000-35000 Cr per hour of real life game time.
Regarding the prices of more capable planes, I can’t progress too fast with this amount of hourly profits.
Even new C208B costs about 3 millions and I have to do missions with aforementioned profitability margin for about 80 hours.
This is not something I’d call “speedrunning”.

As for realism part, I find it’s way easier to fly planes in MSFS compared to the Il-2 Sturmovik soviet planes for example.
It’s literally the other galaxy when it comes to the avionics and navigation systems.
In Il-2 you’re limited to the dead reckoning most of the time, only a limited number of available planes have basic radio-navigation instruments.

In case someone wants to go for flying by hand all the way from take-off to landing, why not to choose another game instead of MSFS, which perfectly fits into this particular set of rules?
Why it’s required to impose restrictions on other MSFS players?

As for reducing progression cadence, I could say there are enough money sinks in the game which reduce profits:

  • insurance system which deducts credits off the player’s balance even during the days when player doesn’t launch the game. People who play only on weekends are surprised when they see their balance has been wiped out after several days of not touching the game. This is not about progress, these players are pushed back by existing game mechanics;
  • fixing wear and tear damage from AI pilots on the one hand and damage on your plane induced by insane winds in career mode on the other;
  • passive income turns into negative sometimes;
  • sometimes you’re doing your two-hours mission just to get “unexpected error happened” message right before you land. At this point you’re reverted back to hangar with no credits added to your balance. Again, no progress there.

As for profits themselves, you get reduced bonus (or no bonus at all) when you face some obscure bugs:

  • penalties for flaps on some aircraft with no engine running on the parking spot;
  • airport overfly announcement with no clues about which airport player has missed;
  • landing in undesignated place. This is the most enigmatic one, like I’m doing IFR, filed my flight plan to the ATC for landing on runway 21 before flight via EFB, I’ve announced my approach to runway 21 via radio, I’ve got confirmation from ATC I’m clear to land there (checked text in the comms window), and when I actually land and reduce my speed, I get penalty for not landing on runway 03. In such cases I’m completely clueless about what I did wrong and I’m guessing this is a bug and take it as is. I suppose in real life ATC people would talk to pilot and tell him he’s doing landing from wrong side so that he could go around and correct his error, instead of silently waiting for him to land and penalize after plane is on the ground.

On top of all this stuff you suggest to remove time scale management option in the career mode, saying that time-scale management in the career mode is sort of “cheat”.

Remember, this is just a game, not full-time job for which you’re payed for in real life - there are not so many people who have time to make long gaming sessions (like 6-12+ hours), but still want to enjoy the career mode.

Career mode is not about “hardcore” mode where “everything is as real as it can be”.

Absolutely not.
Career has 3 added benefits compared to the free flight mode:

  1. You don’t imagine some task for yourself to make sort of role-playing, you’re choosing one task among others - go from A to B with some cargo/passengers, make it safe and stay within limits.
  2. “Strategic layer”. Player decides what plane/company he/she would like to get next? Should player sell this plane from hangar to afford the other more capable plane? Is it the right move? Will the new plane be more profitable? What are the running costs for this? Maybe it’s better to do another 5-8 missions on current plane and build up credits for better variant?
  3. There are consequences in career mode - if you fly reckless, you’ll have to pay for repairs.

All of these do not exist in free flight mode, and as far as I can see many people have bought MSFS 2024 to enjoy career mode just for this aspect and payed full price just for this feature.
There was no warning that in career mode you’ll be able to fly only in 1:1 real time scale, and you should be able to allocate 8-10 hours of you real life time in one time slot to complete transatlantic flight.

Remove time-scale option in this mode to put all players so that all of these have the same experience? That doesn’t sound justified by any means.

In the end such game decision (should it be implemented by developers team) will bring more harm to people who don’t have much time to play and will not benefit other players in any meaningful way.

  • Credits seem to be earned based on the length of the flights. The longer the flight the more credits you earn.

  • Using skips speeds up the missions but reduces the amount of credits you get from completing a mission.

  • Simrate is just a different form of Skipping. It speeds up the missions without reducing the credits.

That is why I believe the devs will do something about simrate in career. I think the logical choice would be to reduce the No Skip bonus based on how much of the flight was done with an increased sim rate (assuming that they can calculate that percentage).

In the end, I don’t care one way or the other. I am not trying to tell anyone else how they should play. I am simply looking at how the mode was implemented by the devs. It seems like they had a goal to limit how fast credits could be earned with the No Skip bonuses. SimRate negates that limitation.

They could decide it is not worth the backlash to change it, but I will not be surprised if they do.

Considering how unrealistic and buggy Career is this is pretty funny, some people whether real pilots or not wanted to try certain missions but they are locked out which is why some are actually using simrate to get there faster.

And like has been said already this affects no one else, it’s also why I do sim racing with AI these days setting up the session exactly how I want which has no affect on other players.

You say, “The point of my OP was not to try to tell people how they should enjoy playing their single player game.”

However, by asking the devs to remove sim rate from Career you would in fact be forcing your idea of how they should or should not enjoy playing their single player game. Plus increasing the sim rate is not as straightforward as you might think particularly with IFR flights and flights with flight following. Even VFR flights are fraught with risks.

Best that you play the way you like and let us do the same. Flights are only going to get longer since long-haul airliner flights reach upwards to 16 - 20 hours or more. As others have said, how we choose to play our game has absolutely no impact on you.

Who are you cheating though? Yourself. I got this sim/game for my own entertainment. We are not in competition here with one another. Gamer ego and purity concerns is once again rearing it’s ugly head. Go fly the way you want to and leave others to fly as they see fit. In 2020, as I was learning to fly airliners, I frequently used slew mode to get past long boring sections. I would not have learned as much if I had sat at my console in autopilot for hours. Not all of us have hours and hours to sit watching the screen but still want to experience the higher levels of career mode. Sightseeing, plane deliveries are boring. If there are shortcuts to seeing the rest, I applaud them.

IMO, sim rate is not a different form of skipping as skipping allows you to forgoe the procedures required for that part of the flight.

Sim rate however does not allow you to forego these procedures… you have to fly the entire flight and procedures exactly like you would if you flew in real time. You are just accelerating the long legs… theres a big difference IMO.

Maybe the OP should be made to do 100s of hours in a C152 before being allowed to fly any other plane if they want ‘realism’

Maybe they should post a real PPL certificate, getting it after 20 mins in the sim isn’t realistic.

So no. I don’t tell you what to do in your single player experience, don’t tell me what to do in mine.

It’s a ‘single player game’. Do what you want.

Adjusting Sim Rate is just ‘clever use of game mechanics’.

I’m not doing it, but hey, ‘choice’.

Im not flying 7 hours in real life to unlock more cassena upgrades and skipping the long cruise on missons results in barely any credits if they disable simrate adjustment i will be sticking with free flight

How is that disappointing? Do these players that want to use sim rate, make you also use sim rate?
