SimWorks Studios Kodiak 100 one the best aircraft for MSFS 2020

What do you think? Real or MSFS?
If MSFS what Sound-Mod is used?

I have trouble creating a new flight plan after finishing one. I can’t delete the previous flightplan out of the G1000. I always have to go back to the Main Menu. I tried deleting via the G1000 or inserting a DCT, but nothing works.

The procedure that should work is:

  • select FLP in G1000 MFD
  • Press the Menu button
  • Using the FMS lower selector dial, select ā€˜Delete Flight Plan’ from the menu and press ENT

You should now have a totally clear flight plan.

This is the best procedure if starting a new leg in the same session. Don’t be tempted to edit the existing plan, unless simply to invert it to go back to your origin.

Anyone else have trouble traversing inclines on the ground? I was trying some flights around PNG and I found that strips on a slope were seemingly impossible to use. Can’t taxi or take-off uphill.

Yes it can be an issue. It was a real problem in the early days with only the slightest of slopes causing an issue, but it has improved since. It’s always advisable to keep your momentum up if there is a slope ahead. If you come to a stop it’s difficult to get going again. TBH I don’t think in a real situation you would want to stop on the low side of a slope if your intent is to go up it. There is also some altiports in the Alps that are like this.

Hmmm. I can’t say I’ve had too much trouble in other aircraft. I guess I should properly test it though.

Be fair to it and compare it with something descent though. None of the default aircraft could really be considered realistic.

I would say MSFS.

If so, not a clue which sound mod.

They’re like comparing a magazine article with four paragraphs and a lot of pictures to a well-organized textbook. With a few of them I feel like I’m reading a Wikihow article on brain surgery that’s written by a pre-med student.

I know putting those videos together can be a real time drag, but are you going to record a Part 11 to complete the Kodiak series? I hate cliffhangers and would really like to see the pattern entry and landing.

Life has been busy without much sim time for the last few months (real flying to be done), but I’ll get episode 11 done soon. Spoiler alert: I land it!

Anyone having issues with the sound in the Kodiak? Sometimes, even quite often, in cockpit view the sound is very strange, as if it gets a similar sound as when flying supersonic. When switching from outside view to cockpit view I even get kind of a sonic boom sound.
This all happens when not even flying or moving. But I think also only when the engine is running. I’m on Xbox by the way.
Anyone?

If anyone wants to try something for giggles, put the Kodiak into full reverse mid-flight, and see what happens. I can’t wait to hear the SWS response on this one, and not use the words ā€œsim limitationsā€.

Prohibited, not just ā€˜not recommended’!

However, I’ve just put it into reverse in the approach config, which is probably the only time you’d have a use for it, and got a sudden increase in the rate of descent. No loss of control, though. I tried it at speed (why would you?) and other than sounding like I’d suddenly been joined by a swarm of wasps (engine overspeed condition?) nothing really happened.

Curious as to what you saw that you think requires a response other than ā€œit’s prohibitedā€ . . .

I was able to continue the rest of my flight in full reverse. I’m not an expert, but I don’t think that is realistic. No loss of control, and in fact picking up speed. How do I have any forward thrust at all in that configuration?

I’ve not tried the same in the Caravan, BS or otherwise, to compare.

Again, going on the fact that it is prohibited there is very little info of what would actually happen. Maybe Alex can utilise the hot start failure coding to blow the engine as a result of engine overspeed???

I knew it would go this route, but would you agree, in principal, that if you pull levers back into reverse, and the props rotate so that they are producing reverse thrust, the plane should not be able to continue flying at speed? And not just maintaining altitude, but able to climb…in reverse thrust.

If I am on the ground, and I go into reverse thrust, the plane moves backwards, correct? Why would we expect anything different to happen while in the air. Yet it does it, and I’ve had it confirmed by others also.

I’ve double checked I don’t have any mods for the Kodiak installed, and I am running version 1.4.0 or ā€œ20221208ā€ according to the archive. I also confirmed this is the latest from the SWS site.

Genuinely perplexed by this one, and want to replicate in the BS Caravan this evening.

Perhaps it was a one time glitch that more than one person experienced, so just in case I plan to shoot some footage of both planes doing the same manoeuvre.

Confirmed, footage uploading noww. The Kodiak flies forwards faster when in full reverse.

Perhaps this is a sim issue rather than a Kodiak specific issue, so I’ll replicate in the Black Square Caravan.

Caravan footage uploaded.

The plane remained in reverse thrust, all the way into the ground, and slowed down, then started to roll backwards. I may have messed up the AP here, and I don’t have my controls set up so I was keyboard. and mousing this, but it didn’t appear to even try to trim to maintain level flight, and went into a dive. What I was expecting to see is the AP eventually run out of trim, and go into a stall.

Exactly the sort of ā€˜what if?’ that can slip through as it’s ā€˜prohibited’ so clearly no one would ever be so foolish as to try it🤣

I would have thought reverse thrust in flight would soon result in loss of airspeed, departure from controlled flight and, well you know the rest.

Just uploaded the BS Caravan footage of the same test.

Try it in the approach config and you’ll see that’s pretty much exactly what happens. No idea how or why the higher speed is behaving like that but I’ll point Alex to this thread.

"I knew it would go this route . . . " - what route, an agreement that it didn’t behave in the way you might expect at high speeds but with a suggestion of a possible route to fix it, that it behaved in a similar manner to the warnings from the POH in the approach config, not one mention of sim limitations?

The route you just took actually, but let’s not do that on open forum. I realised I messed up the Caravan footage, and re-uploading. Sorry about that.

Disconnecting the AP, and using the keyboard to maintain level flight, it went into a stall as expected. It did not maintain level flight with AP, but when flown by hand it slowed down, did not in fact speed up, and eventually went into a wing over stall.

Please do. You were right about a swam of wasps, though I did not expect them to keep me aloft like that.
