Since update 8 all i get is BSOD and restart

Since Mandatory update 8 it’s been an absolute nightmare (thanks Asobo and Microsoft).
All i get is the BSOD when i try to get MSFS working Downloaded from Xbox and click on play and just crashes and BSOD and restart. Cannot install updates or anything. Removed Graphics card still same result (i’m not a programmer) so struggle with all command line stuff. Up to mandatory update 8 i was able to get MSFS working. This is a nightmare. Thanks Asobo and Microsoft.

User-mode applications don’t cause BSODs.

  • Empty community folder?
  • cpu/gpu not overclocked?

BSOD are almost always device drivers. Either a driver that’s been updated or installed recently. I’d start by disconnecting everything apart from your monitor, keyboard and mouse and see if it will start. Then one at a time reconnect the other devices.

What does “I was able to get MSFS working” mean?

Mike Msfs was working fine until the 28th feb mandatory update (had to do reinstalls in past and thats worked), I’ve deleted anything in community folder tried the disconnect everthing apart from keyboard Mouse and monitor XR219 No overclocking. I’ve updated drivers reinstalled drivers. I downloaded MSFS from Xbox that goes fine i then click o n play you own this icon, Then it goes through reboot,

I asked was because that statement sounded like you had some problems that you managed to solve somehow. Think what made you do reinstalls in the past?
I would suggest you try and get into your computer’s BIOS and “Load optimised defaults” and try once.
Otherwise it seems you may be having a HW or driver stability related problem.

Thanks Mike Usually it was an update hanging. I will try to get into BIOS.

Hi @Grollie1640,
When a blue screen (BSOD) occurs, it should display at the bottom of the blue screen a probable cause. You may also find the logs in the Event Viewer as “BugCheck” (I think!)

Yes, Hester is absolutely right. Check the Event Viewer for “BugCheck” entries. (Open Event Viewer, Click Windows Logs, then System and look in the “Source” column. I was having BSODs too and found that in my case, I had 0x00000116 and 0x00000124 bug checks. The 116 ended up being a bad video card, and the 124 was (I believe) caused by high CPU heat. I got the video card repaired and applied thermal paste to the CPU and I’ve been OK since.

Using WinDbg to display stop code information

just do this again

And why you need 4 different topics for your issue ? This makes it not easy that users can help you.

Thanks for replies. Because i had different problems. I should’ve waited till i confirmed fixed problem once and fore all. I’m not particularly savvy with windows 10.The update issue i sorted by a reinstall then after 1 operation on MSFS it then went BSOD.

looks and sounds all same for me

Please repeat the system check ( sfc / dism ). In case you get again issue, may something with your system seems wrong.

Also, whats your system specs ? Have you special devices connected ? etc…

Ensure that all your drivers and windows is up2date.

If your PC BSOD only in case you start MSFS, try to limit the fps to a very low value.

And What you meant with “Removed Graphics card” ?

That’s really excessive, no need to open 4 topics on one user error.
CTD’s yes, but never had BSOD (with MSFS). Sorry to say but Bluescreens are really hardware related errors, so either something is fundamentally wrong with your windows install or basic drivers or simply one of your components is dying or faulty. Maybe your GPU is experiencing with MSFS a load that it can’t handle it with current settings, but then it would CTD and not go blue…

As other posts have mentioned, BSOD is caused by a hardware-related problem and Windows stops running since it cannot fix or bypass the problem.

SU8 has several significant sound-related changes. You might want to check all of your sound devices to make sure none are disabled and have the most current driver. My PC had a very old Realtek sound card driver from Win7 or Win95 but Windows said it was “current”. I checked the motherboard manufacturer and found a recently updated driver. There were fewer crashes after installing the new driver,.

Thanks

hmmm… the specs are rel. low, but it should work.

But in special with ATI cards the crashs depends on driver version. But BSOD… you can also limit the fps with the ATI tool, may be try that. Otherwise there are too many possible reasons…

And can only repeat that sometimes also the faulty sound-drivers cause BSODs ( not only CTD ) … in special users with old PC’s does not update these or have the old asus tools installed. You can test this that you disabled the “windows audio service” and start the game.

Thanks for all replies and help. I’ve reinstalled Windows 10 then MSFS off Xbox. and now have the MSFS update page up and it’s downloading, I will keep posted. Thanks again,

Good luck, my personal experience has been SU8 is very stable.

I’ve only had issues with the Marketplace sometimes not handing off to Steam.
