Sky colours still mad in SU14!

I was hoping the highly exaggerated dawn and sunset colours would be improved with the new atmospheric modelling, but it doesn’t look like it after my quick test. These are just clouds, but other scenes are also pretty underwhelming:

From a brief look i cant see a scrap of difference to the sky i’m sure other with their colour charts and spectrographs will claim its different but to me looks exactly the same

yeah, what a disappointment to have jaw dropping sunsets…

In some weather/lighting situations the cloudscapes can be quite bad but the opposite is also true – with the right weather/clouds/lighting and hopefully a good monitor or TV then it can be good - amazingly good at times.

I really hope Asobo and MS will really start to care more about the delicate nature of clouds and lighting because this is a flight sim. This is a flight sim. You can’t have a somber blue day when the shadowed side of an upper overcast is now reddish for example.

But the new sky colors themselves (noticeable at sunset) are much better than before.

I see a huge difference in the cloud colours and especially the skies seem more blue/purple now.

This was taken this afternoon at the local field. Alas the sun sets early in the north now. :frowning:

It’s that pesky physics thing again. Blue wavelengths just can’t catch a break at sunset.

I don’t notice any difference either but then again, I use the old film filter in the Geforce experience.

No complaints here! Around 4pm near Redmond, OR KRDM. Looking good!

They explained in the Live Stream a few days back that the changes implemented make the sky less pink/purple at twilight, but they had to compromise on the change as changing these values too much also made the sky too green at other times.

The changes won’t affect the blood red/burnt orange overcast clouds at sunset. That’s a different lighting effect in which the color of the low sun is almost always allowed to bleed through cloud layers instead of being blocked by them.

Hoping that’s addressed in FS24

well, ya know it’s a flight simulator not a cloud simulator. Looks pretty good to me as I FLY around. Just sayin’.

So why are there so many blue shadows? especially in the clouds! yes, physics indeed.

The sky actually violet, but since humans cant see UV very well we only perceive it as blue…. Physics.

Considering its a flight sim for the collective ‘we’, I would say our perception matters more than technical truth. If Asobo has to fudge the numbers a bit to make the sim closer to our general perception then thats what they should do. Don’t you agree? If not, why not?

Post your sunrise - Discussion Hub / World Discovery - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

The sky and clouds environment are incredibly important, it’s what we ‘fly’ in. It sure would be nice if it could be truer to life, but alas this is what we got.

It’s funny how some people are critical of it, and some people (like myself) are in awe of how the atmosphere looks and - for the most part - works.

If you can’t see a difference, you can check this old post:

There are some pretty good comparisons.

I get that.

Our focus is different, that’s all.

I checked out sunset, and sunrise at TNCM, so good views of the horizon. Certain cloud types seem to show it off better, but I thought it looked good to me, though I would be hard pressed to explain how it looks better than it did if I am honest.

With taller clouds, and the sun lower on the horizon I had redder tops to the clouds, and white underneath.

One of my presets, which I made myself to give a nice overcast effect comprised of lots of smaller thin layers of distinct clouds looks really odd, ugly really when it’s all shaded in red. I’ve never seen the entire sky lit up in that colour before, like it was from Mars. But during the day that configuration looks good.

Those in the know would be able to compare those values in the EXE now to what was being tested before to see what they have gone with in the end.

A main issue for the visuals of the weather imo is the way Overcast/rainy/snowy sunrises/sunsets dusk/dawn looks. In the real world, whene there is a thick cloud layer those events look rather cold/ blue-ish, not as red, yellow, orange as in the sim.

For everyone who does not like the colours of the vanilla sim, geforce filters are an option if you own a nvidia card. You Can customise colours, saturation, col temps and the likes the way you want it

color are too red in this update i dont like it
