day +20c night +12c week… everywhere snow, river frozen, bella cola… 197 votes
I’ve been flying exclusively with live weather for a year or so. To a point that I avoided areas with winter because I really hate all the frozen rivers, lakes and roads that came with the snow. So I had to wait for summer to fly to Alaska. And I get there’s snow on the mountains. But not everywhere!
C’mon it’s 15°C or more on the airports. Webcams show a pleasant summer day. And everything is covered with a white layer of “snow”
I wish there was an option to keep the live weather and just remove the snow until they resolve the issue. Is there anywhere we can vote on this issue?
there problem not only with winter generation somewhere in swiz, canada or alaska, the problem in textures. somewhere they start remove white textures from the hills and mountains, but it’s looking ugly, because there just changing white to green. indeed it’s has to be use other logic and take color not from paint palette, but from same hills mountains for stay natural… till elon musk will addicted msfs2020 and lunch satellites in august for recreate north hemisphere and in february for south hemisphere… and after all build weather stations everywhere lol… come one people show him this game/simulator whatever…
Not only that, but the ocean is frozen! In August! At 15 C° (59 F°) at 3,000 feet and much warmer temperatures on the ground.
Live weather is absolutely unusable during summer in way too many mountainous area.
This! When you see how easily snow can be switched on and off instantly by just clicking the live weather toggle switch, there gotta be an easy way to let the player manually exclude all snow from Live Weather generation. Why this issue is being ignored for so long is beyond me … and quite frustrating, to be honest.
Welcome to Scar Creek, British Columbia (elevation 313 feet) in the middle of summer at 20 C° (68 F°) at 7:30am.
This is what it should look like:
Yet again Live Weather is useless and I need to resort to a weather preset. Absolutely ridiculous …
Please, give us a separate Snow On/Off toggle!

Shocked they didn’t catch this one… Bella Coola, BC, one of the new bespoke airports in WU:Canada, shows snow today despite it being 62 degrees.

The sim, with live weather active:
Same issue that’s been reported in Juneau, AK – year-round snow.
Has anyone at MS or Asobo acknowledged this issue? I don’t see this logged at least in this thread.
Not specifically, at least not that I know of. It’s probably part of the “ongoing weather improvements”.
But whether they know how utterly broken the snow system is or when (or if) they are going to fix it, is anyone’s guess.
I know you can choose a weather preset to make snow appear, and I think I remove setting the weather to rainy then lowering the temperature until the rain turns into sleet or snow. But I don’t remember whether it actually covers the ground with snow.
Are they purely generating that based on temperature, or Meteoblue predictions?
If I am not entirely wrong, they use the meteoblue snow depth map for this. But sadly in one of the lowest most resolutions resulting in absolutely wrong coverage in many places of the world. In its highest resolution, the snow coverage is not that bad at all, but they do not use it.
how is this thing is not even in the bug list?
too much time to be in the last three monts list, too few votes to be in the lifetime.
1st october, Gotthard Pass, Swiss…
devs don’t care anything that wasn’t in bug thread without thousand votes
I don’t understand how this issue hasn’t even been touched on yet despite being there for almost two years. Do the majority of players just play without live weather? The live snow looks god-awful IMO - it’s flat, featureless and sucks all of the depth and definition out of the terrain. Takes the graphics back about 10 years. Add on to that the fact that the snow depth data is taken from what must be the lowest possible resolution on Meteoblue, it just looks like a giant intergalactic toddler has splashed white paint on parts of the planet. Want to fly in the Himalayas, or the Andes, or heck even the Alps or the Alaskan coastal ranges with live weather on and enjoy the pretty scenery? Nope, sorry, the live snow is applied with the subtlety of a meteor strike and oceans and lakes that barely even freeze in winter remain frozen through summer even with the OAT above 20C.
We know Meteoblue can show way, way, way higher resolution snow depth imagery that if adopted would basically fix this entire problem. Or they could just give us a button to turn live snow/ice off. Seems like a much easier fix than a lot of other issues.
I know to some people this might seem picky, but like when your weather system is so advanced at simulating all these other things to an absurd degree, surely it’s not unreasonable to question why the snow/ice system is so unbelievably broken?
Flew this week near lake Louise in BC
At 8000’ it was +9c
Lake was half frozen and all the surrounding was covered in snow…
A joke after 2 years
Live weather or not, but there is a suprisingly huge amount of players who just don’t notice and/or care for such stuff. A bit unrelated, but one should be surprised how few people actually notice if a windsock points in the wrong direction. However, we should not forget that only a fraction of the people noticing such issues voice their opinion here on the forums. That’s a huge factor as well.
This needs to be addressed in the next QA session, if snow/frozen land/water depends upon some meteoblue low-res snow coverage map, like some of you are suggesting, then it’s wrong.
Snow / Frozen lakes should only depend on science, only on the weather values alone, temp, humidity, air pressure, etc.
We’ve been having this problem since the introduction of snow.
I mean yeah, that would be incredible in the long run if they could do it that way, but also a butt ton of time and work that should probably go into flying related things first. In the short term, they could literally just use the higher resolution data that’s very readily available from Meteoblue and the issue would be almost gone. It just feels like they did one alpha test of the snow system back in Dec 2020 using the crappiest data set just to see if it would work, and then implemented that and went “yep that’ll do”.
It WAS already on position 10 of all questions for an Q&A session, but it was deliberately ignored by the Q&A session moderator AND the devs. Don’t ask me why. And for the next Q&A session it was again in top 5 of the asked questions but then deleted (!) because it had no connection to SU10 beta.
So, everybody can think about my motivation to put another thread into the Q&A questions next time… even more, because it is forbidden then to jump in here and tell the people that they should head over and vote for it…
I’ve also watched in frustration how this problem is brushed under the rub. This is a critical flaw with this simulator. Others many years old do not have. Every winter we have to see this. It’s disappointing. The Asobo team clearly doesn’t live anywhere it snows
