Coming into KALB just now. Playing “spot the runway”. Ridiculous.
I’m running MSFS 2020 on a state of the art computer I had built just for this sim/game. I had an issue where I flew into KASE (Aspen, CO) and everything was great, snow was everywhere. When I hit ESC to go to the main menu and reload a flight starting at my last airport (KASE) there was no snow, in fact it looked like fall with the trees having colors (I’ve got the 4 season’s).
Here’s what happened and has happened on several occasions. For some reason in the General settings the sim changes my graphics from ULTRA to a lower setting which takes out the snow. I changed the setting back to ULTRA, reloaded, and there was the snow again.
Bottom line double check your graphics settings in the sim incase they have changed (for some reason).
This is one of my biggest griefs with MSFS. I absolutely love the game, and will continue to fly with it, but I can’t understand how there is no way to have the runways and taxiways plowed. Yes some runways remain snow covered all winter, but those are generally gravel strips in the middle of no where.
I bought Bijan Seasons Pack hoping that would solve it, but that snow mask doesn’t really do it for me flying at high altitudes. I really hope this gets fixed with SU8, or at least in time for next winter.
@swalls569 Try this on flightsim.to - it works
Thanks, I will give it a try tonight!
So I fly around Innsbruck where the snowline is now well above 1500m. Its spring. Nope, not in the sim. Depths of winter again! Snow all the way to the ground until Kufstein. Ugh,.
same here… you may check out this forum thread about the same topic (based on the example of LOWI)
It is ridiculous that this issue gets so little attention also by the community… really everybody just flying with weather presets? Hard to believe…
I have become a real snowbird in this sim. Staying away from anywhere with winter (or that the sim thinks have winter…) until seasons is implemented and things like the snow and ice cover issues are fixed.
Today, after a dusting of snow reported near Stuttgart… Attached MeteoBlue and then the sim. Same Area…
zoom further out and you will realize the issue: in MSFS, one of the lowest possible snow coverage resolution is used, if you zoom out, you will see that suddenly almost entire southern Germany has a coverage. It is sooo wrong and sooo ridiculous that those Asobo guys continue to ignore this…
This is the current weather situation at Innsbruck Airport.
1.) Webcam
2.) FS2020 - live weather
I think there is no need for further comment…except…inacceptable!
There is no need to reiterate this again and again. They haven’t announced that they fixed it, so it isn’t fixed.
And as it has been said before, it corelates to Meteoblue’s Snow Coverage Map in its lowest resolution.
Zoom out completely and you’ll see that the area is supposedly covered in snow.
Zoom in and the resolution gets more realistic and will show that snow is currently only to be found above 2300 meters.
Yes, I know, I know…
But that doesn’t change the fact that it still hasn’t been fixed.
North of ‘Comunidad de Madrid’, Madrid region (Spain), about 2 hours ago in MSFS. Although it is already a warm season, this past monday and tuesday there was an episode of snow in high altutudes.
Traffic cameras still collect now snow cover, and also Meteoblue, with about 15-20cm of snow.
Surely the real depth is 5-10 centimeters, but with more or less depth accuracy, the important thing is that this event is reflected in scenery.
this is a similar topic… if you guys want to check it out: Snow partially at low altitudes at 19°C in LOWI
what’s this? what’s this? the snowing everywhere. what’s this? what’s this? there summer. you’re aware
As far as I know they‘ve never addressed this in a Q&A. I hope next time it‘ll get enough votes. This could probably be answered in a few sentences.
I can’t imagine it to be that difficult to fix. The only possible reason I see is costs. Or they plan to fix it with the seasons update.
Any way to edit the Sim files to get rid of snow and still being able to use live weather flying in Greenland lately and it’s pathetic to have snow as bad as it is there in summer ???
Have you first confirmed that switching to a preset, like Clear Skies, actually removes the snow? That would just be to ensure the snow is not baked into the terrain because it happened to be there when the images were taken.
