Still CTD in 1.18.14.0

It’s happening for me only on long haul flights. I was flying from Tokio to Frankfurt on the 747 and it crashed on exactly 5 hours of flight time…

It’s got even worse for me… 600h with 1 crash up to sim update 5, no crashes with the update (after dealing with CTD before even reaching the menu for a full day and buying game pass to try the store version… Steam version crashes on every attempt to start even after the fix. Tried everything seems to be a corrupt cloud save, steam support says they cannot help me any further, asobo just sending standard answers… I really hope it gets fixed I don’t want to buy the whole sim a second time…)

Anyways Update 5 on store version worked fine did 5-6 flights without problem and after the hotfix several old bugs reappeared and I had a CTD in 4 of 5 flights… This is getting ridicoulous…

There is no Steam version. The thing you download from MS store is the same client.

Remove what profile?

I’m on a holy quest hunting user post that could help me with my CTD but to no avail.

Some simmers manage to eliminate this CTD’s (kudos to them and happy flying) I read and follow the fix they do like disable AI Traffic, Live Traffic (I CTD at Welcome screen so I can’t do this steps). I search again and I found a few players updated their Microsoft .NET Core Runtime and Microsoft Visual C++ ( I did this and still CTD).

I have 1200++ in-game hours and this is a slap to my face.

My windows is up-to-date:

Both my Community folder in USER folder and Game install folder is empty:

oh and I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Maybe the patch I downloaded from steam server is corrupted? Maybe Asobo need to check with steam? I don’t know.

My system:
ROG-STRIX-RTX2080S-O8G-GAMING (stock)
Motherboard ROG STRIX Z490-G GAMING (WI-FI)
Processor Intel(R) Core™ i9-10900KF CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz (stock) water cool
VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 64 GB (8 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 4000MHz C19 Memory Kit — Black
Windows 10 version 21H1
Sim install and runs on Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 500GB (dedicated)

Due to my line of work and to release my my pressure and tension in my line of work. I will took off to the virtual sky going to places I never have been before (although there’s nothing amazing on that place unless Asobo have done a world map update hehe) but nonetheless watching world below from above give me satisfaction. I love visiting those places where ancient civilization once thriving.

Now I can’t anymore and every hours drive me insane.

Asobo pls help to fix this issue ASAP. This is my support ticket with Zendesk #113596

same again AI traffic off is working now.

Im having CDT after hotfix, a320nx… in 2 moments, not always, lets say 1/5 times

1- loading the flight
2- after finish a flight going back to main menu

I just had a CTD flying the piper seneca V . Normal cruise after departing North Perry airport in FL.

Same here… I have no idea how to fix it. Asobo Zendesk answer was a default answer that only told me to do all the stuff I already tried. I also reinstalled the sim 2 times and cleared every left folder on my system and even formatted and reinstalled Windows… Nothing helps. It’s been fine for 600h with 1 crash, then one update comes and breaks everything.

@CptEvillian Yes I am aware of that but somehow data still gets synced to the steam cloud that’s needed by the exe. It seems to be some config stuff like controller bindings etc. that are on steam cloud and might have been corrupted. Because it’s obviously not my system that can’t run FS2020 it worked for 600h and the store version worked right away too. It’s only the steam version that is broken… Check the thread here for more details: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/su5-ctd-on-every-sim-start/427464

Did you disable steam cloud saves? You can do it in the preferences. If you then delete the preference files it will default back again.

I did that final step in Zendesk solution template. For the first time it seems that there hope as after delete those files, MSFS2020 load back to the setup screen. I set everything to low, AI Traffic off, Live traffic off, multiplayer off basically everything that I learned from others post that could cause the CTD is off or lowered down. Back to the welcome screen and CTD LOL

Its Sunday, tomorrow is Monday work day. So need some rest. I haven’t had a good rest since this latest patch release.

Yes disabled cloud saves, deleted the steam cache and even reinstalled the sim in that state.

Yes that’s exactly what I did aswell and what steam support told me to do. After I did that I made it to a setup screen but I was only able to setup one page it CTD still after that one…

Yes I know it’s not the Steam files causing the problems. But some people wanted to try it.
The software is just unstable, that’s the bottom line. When unrelated things break every time you change something it just means your code is a mess. The sim seems to be held together with duct tape.
We need a reliability update after this performance update.

It`s like gambling in a casino, mostly i loose and the CTD wins.

I think so but the interesting thing is that only the steam edition crashes and the gamepass starts without problems. And even after a full windows reinstall it’s the same behaviour.

But Steam support told me:

You’re very welcome but unfortunately, we don’t have any official feature to delete cloud data for a game and are unable to provide further assistance. We’re sorry we can’t be of more help with this.

Don’t think I’ll get a refund on steam after 600+ hours… I also don’t want to pay again in the MS Store.

I purchased a second MSFS2020 directly from Microsoft Store. After finished installing the sim, its runs perfectly well. No CTD whatsoever.

I quit MSFS 2020 microsoft store version and load up back MSFS 2020 steam version and straight away CTD.

Above picture during installation. I’m happy flying again but with a heavy price to pay.

But at least this tells everyone that something is not right some where and Steam have to answer for this problem.

Screenshot from MSFS2020 bought from MS store. No CTD at all guys.

You can delete steam cloud data yourself.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata…number…number…\remote

Keep the logbook file if you don’t want to lose your hours. You can also just delete the inputprofile files.

Found out, that most of my ctds happen when I would load up a flight or going back to menu or even quitting msfs. Inflight I’d say I had most of the CTDs happening in activties (landing challenge, bushtrips,…).

As the Menu and the activities got restructured with SU5, I got the feeling that mods - community as well as marketplace content - could introduce problems if they are coming with some missions (like a landing challenge, bushtrip, tutorial flights).

Cant check it out for myself before monday, but maybe its worth a try for people that are having sorts of menu interaction related issues (as stated above) to check if they are having non-asobo addons with MISSION folders

For info: updated .NET as suggested. Three flights since, no CTDs… ( I am not a Steam user).
