We don’t really need the aircraft thumbnails in the selection menu to actually be streamed as complete models. We only need one picture per livery of an aircraft. The huge amount of aircraft also massively increases the loading time for the thumbnails.
Instead the thumbnails can become normal images, which shouldn’t take too much storage to store on-device, instead of streaming them every time you want to select an aircraft.
(it would make sense to stream the entire aircraft if you could move & turn the aircraft in the selection menu)
And why not use the MUCH better and larger images that were in FS2020? Like so many things in FS2024, these little thumbnails have been degraded from FS2020.
In fact just bring back the original style of how they were arranged in FS2020 - it was easier to get at the one you wanted IMHO.
Wait… those aren’t images? Those are 3D renderings?? Who decided it was necessary to stream the entire model to the UI instead of a single image file measured in kilobytes??
Voted so fast when I saw this. The selection menu is so slow and clunky, I really don’t know why they decided to do it that way. Heck, I wrote this entire post faster than it takes to load an aircraft in the selection menu - and that’s even before selecting variant and livery.
