Stop Streaming!

First we all wished a new simulator who is similar with the msfs2020 or if not, it makes it easier to start and prepare a flight without setting up many key, mouse and yoke bindings and with aircraft and scenery, you can fly from A to B and not waiting or wating for the next crash, because the server are getting hot everywhere. I think it is the 10.th CTD I got the last 3 days and im a simmer since fs2004. Okey long time ago, there was no AI and big servers but we are in 2024. now dear Asobo Team. When you said you were surprised of so many users, than its a bit unbelievable to release this game.
My wishes:

  • No streaming possibility and with turn on or off switch.
  • Simbrief integration in the default EFB
  • working community folder addons Asobo promised
  • Sound
  • Loading screen with no cinema feeling. its frustrating when this is not real in the simulator.
  • Better understanding how the folder structure in ms store and steam. Important for programmers too.

So Im back to the “old” msfs2020 next time and will see what happened with updates we should get very very soon.

Based on what user @CaptDRoch said at AVSIM, I will stay away from MSFS 2024. I have only seen a few videos where there was some success in getting a flight off the ground. Longtime live streamers faced controller binding issues and struggled with the GUI. Why so many changes? Do not fix what isn’t broken! I did not enter into the Tech Alpha as I was away on vacation; I am glad that I did not waste my time.

With all due respect, I will keep my money in my pocket and keep enjoying MSFS 2020.

"I am very disappointed and angry.
First time since FS95 that I hate a flight simulator because of the dreadful GUI.
I’m gonna stop trying to understand the “logics” behind this piece of s…
5 hours spent and I still can’t find the way to set views and to bind simple joystick buttons.
I will uninstall this poor piece of software and continue enjoying the beautiful MSFS 2020.
Flying 90% of the time liners, I don’t care to see flowers and bees on the hills.

Let see if I can get a refund. If not, I will offer the 150$ spent to the poor Microsoft company, so they can publish an ad to hire a competent GUI manager.

And very honestly, there is no drastic evolution between the 2 simulators, just some cosmetic improvements here and there.
Nothing that justifies tearing one’s hair out to set up basic functions and configure devices, especially when our efforts are punctuated by alerts concerning bandwidth and CTDs.

Long live MSFS 2020 !!!"

Sad but true!

Cloud streaming is simply a disaster for players. When the network fluctuates, even the airport cannot load it and keeps spinning. Players do not lack space on solid-state drives, which is like using their precious time to exchange for that little hard drive space

That’s so true. They need to shift the install content back to the user, like MSFS 2020, so they can focus on improving the sim.

they may have taken the streaming idea a bit too far perhaps possibly maybe i think
stream all the scenery? sure yeah… i can see the logic
stream the a/c, the cockpit and the gauges?.. mmm i’ll get back to you on that one

Should have given people the choice on install, to mainly stream or not.

Streaming is the way forward, with servers taking the load.

Look at what Netflix etc have done, no more ugly blu ray players.

Having a big lump of Xbox/ PC that you constantly need to upgrade all the time is starting to feel a bit ……old fashioned.

I think that there is a gap between what folks expected and what was delivered. It is always difficult to manage expectation.
For example, my personal expectation was that 2024 would be 2020++
so that key bindings, setup, etc would be as 2020 but better scenery, avionics, and more options like Career mode etc all aided by the better streaming architecture.
Although it has to be said that MS did stress often enough that this would be a new Sim, I still expected to be able to simply download and do my free flights with everything working as in 2020.
Afterall that is usually how upgrades to Games work.
I dont blame MS for this, they were clear about this. But expectation management is always difficult.
Because of the non compatibility or the prospect of setting up my streamdeck, add ons, etc anew I have thus far refrained from installing the New Sim. I will do it at some point but I am, after reading many posts, now better prepared for the task ahead.

there is an ugly drawback to streaming services , netflix and others that related what we see in msfs2024 . Data throttling . Every single streaming service provider throttles streaming quality in high demand times . microsoft does the same with msfs2024 . bluray players always provide the same pristine quality exactly what the source media is . …

This is the truth of it.
The transition is rough, but the days of fully downloaded content are ending.

Some people (Xbox for example) have limited drive space, and the textures in FS24 are much, much larger than in FS20. They had to make a choice, and streaming was the only choice they had if they wanted to make the game playable on Xbox.

Xbox is their platform, and it’s how they’re going to attract new users. So really, they had no choice.

Lol this game isn’t streamed. It’s not like googel stadia, geforce now, or gamepass cloud streaming. Assets are downloaded as needed and stored in your cache for later use. You might notice that the lag is nothing like a streamed game at all.

Semantics. As you travel from point to point, scenery assets are streamed into the rolling cache.

Or am I wrong about that?

This was always the case even in 2020, unless you played with photogrammetry turned off. That part hasn’t changed.

What has changed is that now the planes and other things are also downloaded as needed. They have stated that we will be able to download them to our drives once the marketplace releases.

So just wait a bit and play 2020 while 2024 settles down. I for one cannot go back to 2020 after getting the brilliant experience of 2024 - granted I have had no issues with the streaming after day 4, other people have had difficulties

This topic of streaming/ no streaming keeps popping up, but i don’t think a lot of people really understand this, and thing this is a new thing.

MSFS 2020 was also streamed. The world is about 3-4 Petabytes big and growing. It cannot fit on any PC. World updates and aircraft were downloadable only. This took a lot of disk space. It was working but not future proof because these assets will grow to multiple Terabytes.

Now the only difference between 2024 and 2020 is that 2024 gives you the option of downloading these assets, and if you don’t download them they will be streamed. So this is actually a very important feature because now they can release more planes and world updates without increasing the footprint of the sim.

If you choose so you can still download everything you could download in 2020. So this is a win win for all parties involved.

Methinks that proviso says a lot.
Turn PG off in FS2024 and it’s still streaming a lot of data as you fly.

Again…semantics.

I’ve had more successful flights than I’ve had fails?

It’s not semantics. Check out geforce now. That is streaming. Everything is server-based and your computer is nothing more than a terminal as EVERYTHING is streamed in REAL-TIME. In this game, assets are downloaded as needed and stored locally, hence the local rolling cache.

And as i read this topic i get a bandwidth too low warning for MSFS 2020, streaming is not the way forward, it is point black not reliable enough that is pure fact the evidence is everywhere msfs 2020 barely copes and often goes down
In an ideal world streaming would work, in reality it doesn’t and there is no redundancy or backup for when that happens

impossible when you cant get to the servers or they are so slow they cant keep up with you

Just because the data isn’t reaching you, doesn’t mean the servers are the main problem and that streaming the data in todays world is unrealistic.
There can be different reasons why you’re not getting the bandwidth you need.

There’s a whole thread for example where German ISP Telekom seems to be having problems with their DNS servers, resulting in Low Bandwidth warnings and barely any data being streamed, even though speed and packet tests all run perfectly and show no problems.
After switching to Cloudflare DNS the game runs without problems for most who tried it and posted in that thread.
