Hopefully it won’t be long till release! The texture work on the exterior and interior looks amazing! Must just need to finish up the systems?
I’m also a classic aircraft planes. My favorite of them all, the B707 and DC8. I wish a payware will comes out very soon. But I’m extremely glad to see the DC6 and especially the DC3. It looks terrific. Just hope the sound will be very accurate and well done. I’m surprise Captain sim don’t make planes for FS2020. They are expert in classic planes.

I have long abandoned hope for CaptainSim in MSFS. They don’t even recognize it as a viable platform yet. I did buy all their stuff for P3D v5.1 over the last month - Lockheed 1011, 737-300 Classic, 757, and 767 with all expansions. They are awesome things.
Geez, not good news. I hope they will change their mind in the futur.

We need a classic radial airliner ASAP! There’s not really much competition since there are none out there yet so the first to release are sure to make good sales
A high quality DC-3 /C-47 with correct modelling of systems and steam gauges it is an inmediate purchase for me.
Same here. I count the DC3 as a must have in any sim. This plane is one of the reasons I keep going back to XP11 often.
Yes, we desperately need a DC-3. I hope the aeroplane heaven one won’t take too much longer, looks like they got all the 3D modelling one a while ago so hopefully they are making good progress! Hopefully it won’t take as long as they thought since they’ve probably learnt a lot about the dev process while making their Spitfire that’s done now and they can transfer what they’ve learned or done over to the DC-3!
Just chiming in…Definitely one of my favourites including the PBY Catalina.
Punisher6700 :
The DC-3 was the very first aircraft, besides the little Piper Cub, that I saw at our local airport as a kid.
I can still remember the high-pitched squealing sound of those inertia starters spinning down as that big radial-engined prop slowly cranked over, belching out intermittent bursts of smoke and flame from the exhaust before finally catching and chuffing into its distinctive roar. Impressive for most kids of any age, I think!
The old “Catalina” was the very first scale plastic aircraft model that I built, back in the day (50s).
I believe it was by a company named “Revell”, famous at that time for their scale, die-cast plastic models. I loved those blister gun mounts on the rear fuselage, that I managed to somehow smear with way too much Testors plastic cement. I remember that getting those wing struts glued into place was the biggest challenge!
A real, restored PBY visited here (Hawaii) during the early days of the pandemic last year. It flew by our home at a considerable distance away, but its sound was actually quite reminiscent of the old DC-3s.
I can see why you included it. I would like to see one modeled for MSFS, too!
I haven’t even heard of the Catalina. What’s cool about it?
The Catalina was one of the coolest amphibious aircraft of the War Era
I think it’s fair to say there are enough flight sim enthusiasts in the world to believe that almost any aircraft suggested for MSFS would get enough votes. We all have our favorites, and those of us of a certain age certainly know them ALL just by their silhouette. Adding any accurately depicted aircraft is welcome…
and +1 for the Catalina
I gotta add my votes for both the DC3 and the PBY! Both awesome aircraft!
I just checked something that I suspected might be the case.
Both the C-47/DC-3 and the PBY Catalina used the Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp engines.
This explains why that RL “Catalina” fly-by several months ago sounded to me like a DC-3.
Any updates on the progress of this long awaited DC3?
Has anyone here flown in or piloted a DC-3/R4D ? I flew in R4Ds a few times and recall watching the wings ‘flapping’ in the wind. Actually they were flexing, but we young, ground Marines didn’t know that was normal. The first time we noticed, it terrified us. We thought we were doomed. I hope whoever puts one out for the sim includes that bit of aerodynamics.
I’m not holding my breath on the Aeroplane Heaven DC-3 anymore. Those guys looked foolish after the whole “Trolls forced us to delay our Spitfire” debacle a few weeks ago. They were very disrespectful to their fanbase in the comments on that FB post too.
We do probably do not know the whole story behind that. In any case I would also have delayed the release of my product if someone just have unexpectedly release a similar model just few days before.
In any case a high quality DC-3 is highly wanted by the community so if they deliver a good product they will make a lot of people happy.
If they do not deliver, we will have to wait for a quality delevoper to provide one.
