There is an existing bug for some where, once you click on “fly” the flight will seemingly load OK but near the end it slows down to a crawl and both CPU and GPU usage fall to near nothing. Once you spawn on the runway or wherever you get like 10FPS at best on a top tier rig, with the GPU not being used above a few %. Restarting the game, or occasionally rebooting the PC and things go back to normal. Only happened to me on a Radeon 6800XT with three different driver releases since I got the card. Don’t remember it happening on my earlier nVidia card. Whatever, it’s very similar to what is happening to some people on this update.
Yes. By submitting a zendesk ticket you’ll likely receive the usual canned response telling you generic “fixes” that almost never work. It’s part of the rep’s job to copy and paste them just in case they may work.
But that’s not the point. If there’s an issue on the sim’s level, a rep on Zendesk can’t give you a solution, but a high number of tickets on the issue and the details from those tickets may help the developers identify the problem and understand how widespread it may be, which helps with prioritizing.
Try roll back to 457.30 for NVIDIA users - no FPS issues here after update. 457.30 has been rock solid for ages.
This is how I update my MSFS.
Open MS Store - let it update
Run MSFS let it update
Press continue and go to main menu and quit
Reboot computer
Rinse and repeat for more updates if required.
I have an overclocked CPU but no overclock on my GPU. I found GPU overclock caused heaps of CTDs and issues on my end.
Anyways worth a shot.
Ughhh after todays update my performance took a bit hit, on the ground in the air same results.. honestly my sim was working just fine before this update! now the frames drop, the game stutters and freezes noticeably for a few minutes, then works fine for a bit then again right back to stuttering and I never had it like this before! This happens in empty fields, open water like Common really
Everything is updated, drivers, windows, sim! settings same as before high-end…I have restarted the pc 4 times, with same result. Thanks for forcing another “great” update, now ill go back to P3D for another couple of weeks till hopefully this get ironed out.
I9-9900K
GTX 2070 SUPER
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
Definitely agree with this. I had FPS problems until I rolled back to 457.30 and I’ve been fine since.
I wonder if Radeon users are having as many problems? I can’t really see any performance drop with both GA aircraft and the FBW A320, although my flights today have been fairly short. No stuttering on my rig, or large fps drops, except when the servers are clogged sending data. I just have a middling 100mbs connection.
Radeon here. Terrible performance since the world update.
Yup, Radeon RX 5700 XT here and bad FPS plus continual stutters after today’s update. I updated sim, quit and restarted computer as I always do before flying after an update.
Worse performance here too. I’m on a rtx3090 + i9 10900k. World update 3 made performance better for me though. But after this sim update the first flight i did was in the bonanza @ miami intl and got only 25fps (previous between 50-60) After some pc restarts and checking all my nvidia settings i got the fps back to normal but it’s not smooth at all anymore. Also much more stutters and fps drops to around 20 for some minutes.
I’d appreciate if Asobo comes with an explaination why performance get’s impacted like this after every update (for better or worse). Kinda feels like it’s completely random how the sim runs. Not only difference in fps. But also difference in smoothnes. I can remember my first flight in the alpha version, i was amazed by the smoothness regardring the lower fps. Now it changes from update to update altough i’m on a new system with much higher fps then during alpha testing. Smoothness comes and go’s it seems.
It’s weird. I noticed a noticeable performance uplift after the UK update (although definitely not in London!).
Now, although my flights have been relatively short testing out this and that, I haven’t really noticed any marked drop in performance, and continue to use V Sync in areas where I know I’ll get 60fps or above (my monitor’s max refresh) as that gives the smoothest performance for me. Also haven’t had any crashes, just a bit of server lag as I don’t use rolling cache.
Maybe it’s happening to people who are clogging the servers in popular flying spots while using live traffic, live weather and multiplayer plus or driver issues on some GPU models?
Whatever, good luck to those having a troublesome day.
My rig is Ryzen 5600X
Radeon 6800 XT (latest 21.2.3 Adrenalin driver)
32 GB 3200MHz RAM
100Mbs fibre.
Yes exactly this.
In post 11 above, the link to the Facebook posted ideas…I noticed that in my case the update changed a setting for me that is hard to find and had helped me the last time there was an update. The setting on the .exe file itself that is buried inside the directory where the executable file for MSFS sits. It’s the setting for “disable full screen optimizations”. I had turned that off by selecting the check box and it improved my frame rates in the last update, and now this update reverted that setting back to letting windows “optimize”. You all should try this and see if it helps you like it did me, so make sure to disable full screen optimization for the sim. It’s hard to find this setting but I learned about it on a YouTube from FlightSimGuy posted a few months back. You have to find the .exe file inside the menu structure (google that) and then right click on the file name to show the setting.
I have the same issues, big FPS drops and random stutters. Will file a bug report. There is definitely a huge performance impact after sim update 3.
DDU your Nvidia drivers, install 457.30 and report back.
I had this. You need to open the Xbox app, and activate the update from there. You haven’t actually updated the game properly yet. I’ve never had to do that before but it’s necessary for this update. Hope that helps.
Edit: The above is a specific reply to someone having CTD’s when trying to load into a flight.
I also ran into the massive frame drop problems but so far only on my second flight after loading the game. So far my first flight always seems okay. Can anyone disprove or help confirm this might be the case so we can help Asobo track down the cause. I was getting super smooth 30fps (capped) and then suddenly 10fps for no reason. Then after 2 mins it instantly pops back to 30fps. This happened 2-3 times before finally stabilizing again.
I rolled back last night. Things started well, but my FPS counter was reporting unrealistic high counts. After a few minutes I was back down to 25 FPS. Went back to the latest GeForce drive because, well, why not?
But also actually trying some of the things they send int he canned response will actually help resolve the issue. As many have posted (for whetever reason) the updates can change settings and it is simple to check many of the suggested actions.
Ok, you tried then. One reason to stay away from the Nvidia drivers released after January is that people are reporting all sorts of trouble with the recent builds at Nvidia forums
Generous RAM overhead and ample space left on the root SSD drive for the pagefile.sys file won’t hurt either.
yes thanks for the info, I had already realized that so all sorted now. thanks for your input though. regards.
