Support for Tobii Eyetrack

Come on Microsoft, Asobo and Tobii - you can do better than this!

Tobii and TrackIR get super confused if you happen to own both products.

This is not good implementation. Please give us independent on/off for tobii like TrackIR gets in game and the ability to change some options like “turn off the eye tracking” if we just want head tracking, and allow us to set curves and sensitivities.

I would call this a beta implementation as it is.

Wishlist is not the place to report bugs.
Please report it in Bugs & Issues > Hardware, and add the tags #tobii and #trackir. I would recommend giving detailed information on the steps to reproduce it, what drivers you are using, and what exactly happens.

You can stop Tobii loading with the sim by setting all of its services to manual (and stop them) rather than automatic. Windows hello will still work as its totally independent and it doesn’t depend on those services to log you in. I’m going back to Track-IR 5, even in its buggy SU7 state its still better than Tobii 5.

I have added a new post under the Bugs & Issues section. Please vote it up…

Done  Actually it would be easier to rename this topic to keep the votes :smirk:

Got SU7.
My Tobii now just works!
Great job MS+Asobo!!
Expect following updates for it, such as detailed in-game sensitivity settings, and Z-axis movements (up down left right in the cockpit).

Tobii 5 tracker here. For me it doesn’t work. I got no head movement at all. I don’t use TrackIR btw.

Have you installed and configured the Tobii software?

The software is installed and works with every other game it supports. Do i need to update the Tobii Game Hub software?

Maybe yes I don’t know. The only thing I experienced is that you need have Tobii plugged in/working before you launch the sim. Can you see the device in the msfs controller settings?

Tobii’s driver is confusing. From some point of time, the core driver + game hub is not properly working. If some games are not supported by current dirvers and softwares, to solve this, uninstall every Tobii drivers and softwares, and then just install ‘Tobii Experience’. I solved most of the problems. MSFS is also well supported by Tobii Experience software.
I can’t understand why Tobii diversed their dirvers into two ways and making users confusing.

Yes and it works. I can see the round thing following my eye movement in Windows. In MSFS i see the Tobii tab in controllers…also TrackIR.
But inside the sim i got no head movements.

Uninstall every Tobii-related things and just install Tobii Experience only. If you already did so, in the MSFS Controls options, assign a button to TOGGLE HEAD TRACKING (under Camera section) and, try to press that button in-game.
By the way, running Tobii and TrackIR together is reported to be a confliction to each other. Currently, MSFS is not distinguishing one from the other.
I have Tobii 4C only and it works great.

Ok, it works! Had to uninstall the software, clean the registry and reboot. Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it!

Hey guys,

I’m interested in Tobii Eyetrack. How is it compared to TrackIR, what are its pros and cons? Or is it simply better than TrackIR in every aspect?

Tobii
Pros:

  • nothing on your head
  • simple to setup
  • supports windows hello (it’s amazing, once you have it you can’t live without)
  • used to be relatively cheap with the 4C
  • sometimes it “just works” with little config

Cons:

  • more finicky to get right in setup if it doesn’t feel right to you at start (DCS for example is troublesome)
  • if you wear glasses, some frames just won’t work right (narrow framed glasses obstruct your eye way too often)
  • sort of expensive now
  • hard to setup so it doesn’t move while you read, since it’s connected to eye movement
  • you need screen mounts and it comes only with 2 so if you run out gotta buy more
  • not all games have 6DOF it needs to be programmed in (see, MSFS still doesn’t, but DCS finally does! Works great, too.)

Trackir
Pros:

  • most common tracking product, easily supported
  • can read stuff and move your eyes while tracking stays perfectly still!
  • can get finicky to setup, but once it’s done, it’s done.

Cons:

  • absurdly expensive for such old and simple tech
  • tends to be fragile, there’s a ton of head mount variants due to this
  • you need to have stuff mounted on your head (cap, usually)
  • at this point it’s so old it’s getting hard to find (here in Italy it’s not on Amazon anymore)

As I don’t now if or how much you guys are involved in the Tobii integration development for MSFS, are there ary news about the “requested” features here in this topic? Will they come with SU8 or will the functionality of the eyetracker and the behavior in the sim stay limited like this until the other whishlist topic (Tobii Eye Tracking needs configuration options) will make it into the community shapshot?

Great questions. Unfortunately I can’t answer these just yet. We’re in contact with the team and hope to have something soon™

Until then, I want to give a huge shoutout to everyone giving feedback, voting in the settings wishlist post and just being passionate for the game you love. We really appreciate it and hope to keep making games an even better and more immersive experience!
