Is it just me or are taxiway signs just over saturated and way too bright? They’re unreadable. It is so difficult to find where you are especially during VATSIM events… Is there any addons or anything to turn them down?
They are. I wrote up a thread addressing all of the taxiway sign issues, and a mod closed it as a repeat. I got instructions to repost those threads, and I’ll do it sometime soon.
Feel free to create a wishlist item asking for taxiway signs to be less bright. I don’t see a post for that.
Just made it!
Awesome! I haven’t read through all of them, yet, but I put the SDK tag on the one about double-sided taxi signs.
Thanks for making them separate topics!
Thank you so much for that! And of course - hoping some of these issues / requests get resolved
Would greatly contribute to making the ground environment much more convincing and realistic & bring it up to par with the rest of the world!
Agreed! I don’t want to speak on behalf of the devs, but I think they’re really heads down in bug fixes at the moment. But hopefully we’ll get past that and start seeing some wishlist issues get knocked off the list soon!
I think so too (and completely respect the fact that they need to spend some time fixing those things!). Hopefully this isn’t too big an ask and is something relatively easy to sort out in the future when they have time.
I hope so. Taxi signs have been a real sore point so far. They’re hard to read and often facing the wrong direction. And even when they can be read, they’re often inaccurate and don’t match real world charts.
If it weren’t for taxi ribbons, I wouldn’t know where I was going most of the time.
I hear you. I’ve logged Zendesk bugs for all the airports I regularly fly out of (even though I’m sure the problem will be solved globally).
In the meantime, I have paper taxiway diagrams with me.
I use Navigraph, but it’s hit or miss whether the instructions ground control give me match the reality of the charts. At a lot of airports they do
but at just as many, they don’t.
It’s especially difficult at large international airports when they don’t. Instructions you’re given by ground control mean nothing. There’s no accurate chart you can look up, and you can’t see the signs most of the time because the text is on the opposite side or it’s illegible until your right on top of it.
Taxi ribbons are the only assist I use just because of that. If at least the taxiways matched the real world 10-9, I’d be content and could ditch that eyesore.
Done. I voted on all taxiway tupac’s.
Hand crafted ones should match, but I doubt the vast majority of AI generated ones would. I’m not so sure about the third type, the hand tweaked ones.
Likely all the handcrafted ones do. I don’t recall encountering one that doesn’t. But not all major international airports are handcrafted. For those that aren’t it’s basically a roll of the dice as to whether they match Jeppesen charts or not.
I have the KSAN and KEYW packs from the marketplace. Those have correct taxiways according to Jeppesen 10-9 charts. I also have the RomanDesign CNC3 (although I bought it from him directly before it was available in the marketplace) and it’s also great. Not only that, they built the taxiway markers correctly so they face the right orientations, they’re larger, and have fonts you can actually read from a distance so you know where you’re going. I can’t speak for other 3rd party airport since I have none, but I suspect the designers would put some effort into ensuring their work matches the real world.
I noticed in the latest development update that taxi signs are on the list of fixes. They only mentioned sizing but one can hope…
This might explain why all the marshal’s are wearing sunglasses, and why they have white eyes.
Well, one can only hope. If they don’t orient them in the right direction and label them on both sides, font sizes won’t help much if we can only see them edge-on or from the back side, which is as much an issue as the illegible font size.
Yes, these are invaluable - and in contrast to the taxiway signs, they are much too obvious and much too big (along with the parking box). “Tiny taxi ribbons” solve this to some extent, but both the signs and the ribbon/box really need to have user-configuration within the sim.
The taxi ribbons are an eyesore, as is the parking box. What we need is a way to toggle them on and off from a key bind vs having to escape the game, dig in through a bunch of menus, and back. That way, we can quickly turn them on if needed, see where we need to go, and turn them back off.
I agree they’re too big, but like you said, there’s a mod for that. Although that shouldn’t be a mod. It should be part of the base sim. Those ribbons are WAY too large.
